How to Sew a Half Doll Pin Cushion that will Keep Your Pins Sharp

- From the 1900s to the 1940s porcelain half dolls adorned all kinds of household items, but their primary use was for pin cushions.
This fun project is suitable for beginner sewers - as well as advanced of course! - and is perfect for using up odds and ends of trimmings. Also you can add your own filling of crushed walnut shells to keep your pins sharp!
I use my half doll pin cushions all the time in my sewing and I'm sure you will too. They also look so decorative to have around the home.

There are some wonderful examples of beautifully dressed half dolls for decorative purposes only. One day, when I finally carve out time for my dolls house channel, I’ll have to make one!
I’m glad it’s not just me re the ground shells. They’re sitting in jars in the kitchen near the cereal, which is asking for trouble really. They look very much like the seeds I sprinkle on my cereal when I’m having a health drive 😂 Thank you for watching and encouraging me 💗💐

Of course you know that I'll be straight on t'internet looking at all i can on half dolls 🤓 I cant wait!! I guess if you really went to town on fancy fabric, expensive embellishments and complicated panel design then it's not a usable pincushion as such, but a very beautiful ornament 🌸🎀💠 ooh I'm tempted to give it a go!! Yes, I decided keeping the stuff in a jar next to my breakfast cereal was perhaps not such a good idea after all! 😂 Oh half dolls are wonderful to collect. I do also have a little chicken I want to make a nest of eggs for. I’ve seen the pretty ladies in the most wonderful costumes. Every detail of historic costume in miniature. There was someone making them on Etsy for a while and her dolls cost around £500. And she sold them. They were works of art. I would be in heaven just sitting and sewing a miniature costume. I had two half dolls but I didn´t know what they were. I lost one to an art project and the other disappeared. I am so sad now, but I guess some part of me does not want to put pins in pretty girls skirts. I could have made a skirt nonetheless. So pretty and I love the felt.

My grandma had a half doll and the skirt hid the spare roll of toilet paper on the back of the toilet
