At my job, they have been leaning very hard onto the excuse of "we adjust pay according to the your market value" when talking about raises. That's great for the executives, and bad for regular employees.
I actually saw my company's name on a list of companies that paid zero taxes in the "Tax Me If You Can" documentary. Oh, and they laid off a lot of people last year while hiring heavily the year before and a good amount this year. Needless to say, the company has been doing very well... It's mind-boggling.
