I bought a new 2007 Exige S (Chilli Red) right off the showroom floor back in 2007. Had a few mods done in the first year including a Komo-Tec 380 kit which included a liquid-cooled intercooler, injectors, and ECU. Bumped the car up to a dyno-tested 325hp to the wheels. The power to weight ratio is insane. Still have the car sitting under its custom cover in my garage today waiting for the sun to come out.
@AliasProductions801 the key is torque mate I know mr2 2zzge with gtx2867 and 380hp and 200.000 kms in engine + 35.000 with this set up the engine is very relibale if keep torque down and this mr2 have 320nm
Best car I’ve owned, owned a second one and K24 swapped it. Idk how great it is as a street car honestly definitely worth it if you’ll track it though 100%! Such a good car, still have yet to drive anything that comes even close

For those of us who like sports cars, the Elise/Exige is the only good car under $100k that's been sold in the US since 1995. And the market has been a barren wasteland since 2012. If you want an SUV, you have like 400 million options. If you want a lightweight sports car more exciting than a Miata, you have.... absolutely nothing from the last decade. It's no surprise Elises, Exiges, RX-7s, etc go for insane prices now. There's literally nothing else that hits that niche.
Agree. The Alpha 4C got close but still didn't match up. The Alpine A110 also was not superior to the Elige. Much more refined and closest for the cost IMO is the Cayman GT4 - and its over your $ comparison mark. I've thought many times what would I get if I had to get rid of my Exige. Well, I still have my Exige if that tells you anything. ;)

To all those people who do not own one or have never driven one, you will think you understand... until you eventually drive one and then calmed all your senses down, that is when you will get it.. it ain’t like any car you have ever driven. It’s not about the power, cos there ain’t any although they manage to get a lot out of a little.. it’s how Lotus managed to not allow anything to get between you and everything else that is going on.. you feel everything!!! You feel the wheels and tyres! In the early cars like mine without the assisted brakes, you feel what the damn callipers are doing! The steering almost makes your hands feel like they are holding the wheels. It overloads you with information!! You feel every twitch, feel every vibration and it’s just talks at you in a language you just know!
Back in elementary school, my neighbor was an undercover cop who drove his all black Exige daily. I would walk home from school super slow, just hoping he would pull out before I get to my door.
3rd gen MR2 Spyder is a budget alt. It has the 1zz engine in it and it's easy to swap the 2zz engine in it the same engine as in the Exige. Yes Lotus looks more expensive and yes for some it looks better but for 10k you can have something realy close to an Exige. The 3rd gen MR2 (over here in Europe) goes for under 5K clean body low milage. Even when you want to swap it it's not a bad deal. Hope to have informed some people and if I missed something please let me know :)
Would be a good one. Still waiting on an episode for the ion redline. They did the cobalt as and mentioned it but come on. Do a full ion redline vid or at least an ecotec focused episode. Such a great platform
Something about Alex's presentation style that I keep coming back for. Also - I have no experience with Exige's but have thousands of miles behind the wheel of the Evora GT and holy shit there are few cars that are quite as fun! I can only imagine the Exige is right up there along with it.
If you are a track person an Exige or Elise is an experience you need to try to have. They are just incredible drivers cars. Ok I’ll add the same suggestion to a GT3RS. ;)
If I bought one it would be an Exige V6 of some sort, a Cup version most likely. Dedicated track car. Other options are C6 Z06, Factory 5, Ultima or Superlite.
Exiges‘ Modell 3 have the 6 cylinder and crazy exhaust race car sound. But I guess not abailable in the US due to crash regulation. I own one and it is the best drivers car, there might be fasters but there is always someone faster. Best value for fun 🤩 Once in you are bored of most other cars

I have a Lotus Type 116. This is arguably the car that saved Lotus. As if GM didn't build Lotus a new factory and make Lotus comply with the safety standards of the time. Which meant that Lotus could re enter the US market and stay in the European markets. My is a Japanese spec Opel Speedster 2.2lt NA Ecotec engine. 147hp They did a 2lt turbo 200hp which also made the GM Lotus both more powerful and faster than the Elise and Exgie's of the time too. In the UK badge snobbery meant that it wasn't liked as Vauxhal. But the reality is that they built by Lotus on the same production line. Have same chassis etc infact the Lotus Europa S is basically the same except different body. NOTHING HANDLES LIKE A LOTUS. On that note I am off for a drive

I have an s2 Exige in Saffron Yellow. Cracking car, but needs an LSD, so ordered one from ATB (tourque sensing). Should mention that it was an option back in the time but nobody really bothered (standard on the cup260 and in the PP for the s240). It’s pretty dull after owning cars with an LSD.
Exige Cup 430... enough said. Offical supercar killer. May not be faster than a 911 GT3 RS in the sprint, but it just keeps going and is an absolute beast on the track. Also the Elise is technically not a roadster. And there will never be a series 4. Lotus has officially retired the nameplates of the Exige, Elise, and Evora... sad I may never get my dream car..
Honestly I love the Series 1 the best. Yes, later generations have better engines, but the Series 1 is the lightest, most nimble of the bunch which is what you kinda get these cars for. Add aero and a little power and it’ll beat most S2 or S3s on the track
So Im pretty sure I struck gold with my 99 nb1 38k miles 5 speed for 1800$. I'm in Michigan and they're pretty underrated here. Usually they're rotted to hell luckily mine was garage kept

Yes, it is a lovely car to use! I have an S2 Exige (supercharged) in chrome orange, and every time I see it, I have a huge laugh on my face! It’s too harsh for bad bumpy roads unfortunately, which is on the majority of the city I live in (Athens, Greece), but it is worth it every time!

My Lotus Exige S was a great car for the track, not so much for street, just too small in the US with giant sized cars not seeing me at all for lane changes, backing out, etc. I converted my $70K 2007 Lotus Exige S to a race car and raced Lotus Cup USA. The biggest weakness is the Toyota 2ZZ engine/trans ... fragile, constantly chasing failures, I could get no more than about 10 hours out of a 2ZZ motor until it failed (and these were fully prep'd race motors with Cosworth parts) ... just enough hours to cover a race weekend before replacing it with another race prep'd 2ZZ. I eventually gave up after 8 years of racing the Lotus and I went thru all the possible variants of the motor from ITB normally aspirated to Super Charged to Turbo ... bottom line is the 2ZZ motor just has too many failure points. Now the Lotus chassis, wonderful, car handled like a dream and could be balanced perfectly.
It was a quality card stock too. This wasn't your friend Steven's busted trans am... this was your Uncle's Firebird... but it was a poster... of a lotus...

Too much? Depends on your tolerance, for me yes. I prefer the Evora GT, nicer 400hp and just as quick without being as harsh

I have an S3 V6 Exige and before that an Elise. I’ve easily sat in them both for 6 hours + on and off track with no issues. This is just a myth 😀.
Advan A052's are probably the best tires for the Exige for track-use now. They're better than the R888R's in almost every way.
New lotus coming in July is gonna do nothing but make the Exige and Elise go up in value!!!
