I'd never build one but I will always appreciate and enjoy looking at them. I remember watching them toy with the police in Okinawa when I was stationed over there. That shit was hilarious, respect!
Honestly, I respect a bosozoku build a lot more than a lot of builds because of the time and effort that would go into it. I personally don't consider 'wheels, tires, and coilovers' to be much of a build tbh though.
I love japan's car culture. It has such a rich history and normally isn't as judgmental as most western car culture's opinions of how cars should "look". Plus without bosozoku movement, we more than likely wouldn't have wide body kits and companies like Rocket Bunny & Liberty Walk or even tsurikawas as car accessories lmao
Kei Miura the creator of Rocket Bunny was actually involved in the Kaido Racer scene which was the origin of Rocket Bunny itself so your comment is spot on!
Wonder how Alex would sound when pronouncing the Swedish word “Tunnbrödsrulle” (a thin Swedish bread), ”Knäckebröd” would probably also be fun to hear Alex try to pronounce (another type of Swedish bred, a crispy biscuit like bread).
Ever since I first heard of bosozoku, ive been nothing but interested in it. i started searching more about it and what not and ive decided to start building one of my own. ive got a great condition, low mileage (140k), 1989 Camry (4cyl) that im turning into a bosozoku car. i know what people are gonna think, "why a camry?" well im poor and can't afford a Cresta, corona, chaser, or any other a *actual* old boso -platorm toyota, but the 2nd gen camry actually has a ton in common, body style wise, with those other cars. Ive already got a straight pipe, twin tip exaust pointing out and upwards from the car, I've cut the springs (but might eventually just do pucks because fuck it), next up is my air dam, bumpers and skirts, taillights, 14x8.5 SSR' s, stretched tires, fender flares, flashy interior, air horns, new steering wheel, and a glossy re paint job. the main reason im building this car is because i really want to keep this car culture alive. my buddy has a 280zx turbo that he's making a sort of Kyushu build out of too
I can relate to the first part of the bosozoku lifestyle: finding purpose in fear and excitement, which are ultimately two sides of the same coin. It was downhill skiing that first helped me discover my love of speed. Cars were a natural continuation of that love. For me, it's not about rebelling against society, it's about seeing how far you can push yourself, and feeling that euphoric tidal wave of adrenaline crash over your body. The feeling of teetering right on the edge of oblivion is like a drug. Whether it ultimately brings someone meaning in a philosophical sense is a more subjective question. All of this aside, I love the modern Bosozoku aesthetic to death because it preserves the original spirit of the term by being unapologetically silly, thereby shedding the pretensions of its association with the purely rebellious, criminal types. I wish I had had room to keep my Saturn station wagon.... if any car ever looked like it was begging for a big ass wing, side exits, and a spray painted mural of Sailor Moon, it was that one.
Still looking for 'So you want a 300c Hemi' One day you'll have seen enough of these comments and it'll be in your brain, and you'll feel bad. Great vid bro.
I love how you throw in the Runescape references in your videos here and there. True OGs played/play Runescape. You learn real economics on Runescape that they dont teach in school, but you probably knew about this already.
You say they weren't hitting their target market yet you remember the the lyrics even years later. Can't you see? We're in end game now o_o. We are currently the target mark..we always were.
Also water isn't wet. Wet is there expression of the relationship in how liquid particles stick to a surface.. Basically in a play on words water isn't wet the surface is.
Also I wish you gave a quick mention/shoutout that bosozoku split apart into different gangs one primary gang being kanjozoku which is like the entirety of why people even mod Hondas without the bosozoku there would be no kanjozoku ergo no honda culture/history. I think was worth at least a shoutout I understand this video was strictly about Bosozoku though so I can respect leaving it out.
Points for mentioning Yankii culture but I believe they were more about some gang stuff and for some, their version of the Greaser/rockabilly lifestyle while not necessarily focused on the cars, pretty much more motorcycle centered.
Want to see a modern day build? Alex.fi you heard it! Should see it at night! Thanks for making a video that again makes it way easier for me to explain to my friend what I do.
Honestly I love the mentality and culture of bosu..... ( I give up on spelling) I'm not sure i would be as intense with the body work that they do but I love the paint jobs

@@exist4046 The issue mostly is that people tend to generalize all crazy out there style cars from the late 70’s and throughout the 80’s car culture in japan as “bosozoku”. Bosozoku is used as a blanket term 99% of the time being used incorrectly by people who have no clue what they are talking about. The car in the thumbnail is a Kaido Racer car, not bosozoku. Bosozoku scooters are a weird offshoot of this styling as well, I have a couple videos of mine if u want to check that out (even though mine aren’t super proper just use some styling cues) or check out the donut media video on scooters, also from what I found out the Japanese people that are into this style are actually supper accepting, while a lot of American people who replicate this style are huge on period correctness, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but they tend to just not accept people if they use a newer or different base that they don’t consider “period correct.” Just warning anyone who wants to get into the hat that that will most likely happen. But f those people, be rebellious in the already rebellious scene, and do whatever you want.
I don't actually know much about the DONK culture tbh. Like on some cars I think that it can be done horribly and look awful but on others it actually looks super fucking cool. I feel the looks of all of them depend on simply how well it's done and how clean it looks. However, I would like to know more about the culture behind it all.
