I have owned 2 Elise and 2 Exige cars over 15 years. I can tell you this beautiful lady gets the Lotus ethos. She described it perfectly. Thank you for making this I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I have had many cars. Lamborghini Huracan, 911 turbo, Ferrari 458, 355, etc. NONE come close to my lotus Elise from a pure joy of driving perspective. Love it so much. Truly a go-cart for the street.
@@emresancaktaroglu6430I’ve never driven one. It looks great on paper but hasn’t gotten great reviews as a drivers car. If it were naturally aspirated and had a manual transmission I’d be more interested.
I can totally see this. Wish more S3 Elises were available here in the US but crash safety regulations prevented that. I will never forget the fun we had in an 800kg Ford Fiesta XR2, obviously lacking power and RWD but that thing was a hilarious Go-Kart to push to the limit.
One of those rare films where I felt connected with not only the car, but the owner as well. Relatable humans in the car world are getting harder to find, but glad you interviewed Johanna! You can really feel the passion coming from someone who said they initially were not into cars! The filming style really helped drive the story home too. Great work!
“Driving a lotus is a one way road, once you’ve driven one there’s no going back” Never a truer word said. Currently on my 4th, a lovely , honest S2 Exige. Simply stunning cars.
@@dre32pitt Have owned a Mk1 & Mk2 MR2, very nice, small, intimate but really not in the same league as a MK2 Exige at all. Taking nothing away from the MR2, it's great at being a normal "easy to live with" sports car.
@@ShaunCymruDS8 neither of those have the 'hot' Toyota 1.8 though.. the mk1 and mk2 are extremely snappy (prone to snap oversteer), while the mk3 is not.. weighs less than an NA Miata as well.. But you're right, the Exige is probably a bridge too far in comparison, but an Elise.. An Elise would be a proper matchup
Sublime! A Lotus Exige is the only model that I should swap my Honda S2000 for. I understand how it feels just because driving this kind of analogic cars challenge drivers. The driving experience that you are feeling is not well compared to modern digital cars that substitute the driver habilities. Motorsport is all about it, not only been fast but you have to be part of the car. Wonderful video, love it.
What an amazing story! And a perfect description of what a TRUE Lotus is and feels. Lotus themselves should take notes because they are clearly missing the point lately...
I'm not so sure I'd say "TRUE Lotus", more like "original Lotus" which were road car versions of Colin Chapman's racing car philosophies. At that time Lotus was primarily a racing car company, and a very successful one at that. That's changed over the years, and I don't think Lotus today is missing the point, it's just that the old days are gone. New regulations makes it impossible to do what they used to, and even then, what they used to do wasn't profitable or sustainable as a business and that's where the problem lies for today. What they're doing now is adjusting to the desire to become profitable which requires change. If Colin Chapman were still alive, I think he'd be on board with this. I hope Lotus Hethel continues to be viable, because Lotus Wuhan isn't producing anything that's even remotely appealing to me.
Watching this from my sim rig so was great to see Johanna in their rig too! Superb car, superb driving, superb scenery and superb filming. Great job Johanna and Niterun!
Wonderful car! Amazing roads and scenery and filming! Johanna's words are some of the best of describing the passion we have for Lotus cars. Her first car was a Porsche?! Hardcore!
Very nice video editing and great sound recording. You capture the passion of sports cars beautifully. I have one that i drive in mountain roads too, there are few experiences to match that.
huge respect to this person.. ... I owned an Elise and have been trying to find something that drives as well. I just can't find anything. the one way street she mentions is true. great film big up to all involved .
Lotus deserves more credit for staying niche even 20 years ago, preserving the essence of what made older 70s and 80s lightweight cars so enjoyable to drive, right on (or beyond) the edge of crash saftey requirements. The real problem for enthusiasts is that there are fewer and fewer people left who are able and willing to buy pure sports cars new. Back in the day, fun cars were not as compromised in terms of comfort and practicality, relative to the average econo-box most people bought, which made the choice easier.
Beautiful video. There is absolutely nothing like the Type 111 platform and never will be again. Enjoy Johanna, I could never part with my supercharged Elise.
She understands perfectly what makes driving fun. No automatization, no power steering, manual shifting, no TC. I would even turn off ABS if I could, but of course, not on the road.
Omg I am about to buy a '08 Porsche Cayman S (in two days) but now I am almost in doubt, because I've owned an '04 Lotus Elise, and I can exactly relate to Johanna's feelings towards the Lotus. I've loved my '04 Elise S so much and quite regretted selling it two years ago. I just miss that extra layer of comfort for those longer road trips, so I guess it'll be a Cayman this time!
Why not get a Lotus Emira V6 with a manual? You get the extra layer of comfort you want, but still get a Lotus chassis, and the sound and action of the V6 and manual. There seems to be a used market for them and some great deals.
marriage material. also, that Exige is the most beautiful I've ever seen. You guys did a phenomenal job with material choices. Amazing. The Lotus Exige is my top dream car. Some day.
When she said it took her parents years to understand why she bought the Porsche; I felt that. It always amazes me how non-car enthusiasts have really no idea why actual car enthusiasts like to spend lots of money and time on cars that aren't just practical, everyday SUV's or Sedan's. To the point where they just see you as someone trying to show-off or compensate for something. Some people really have no idea how someone could just want to drive a car for fun.

Lotus has gone from making the greatest sports cars ever made with the Elise and Exige - cars that you could realistically aspire to own - to making hugely expensive, heavy, electrified cars that nobody wants. They'll be prying the keys to my Exige 410 out of my hands on my death bed. Good luck on getting me to let go!!!
Having driven some enthusiasts cars from a first generation MR2 to the AP1 S2000 and motorcycles in between, I still hope to have an opportunity to drive an Elise/Exige. Always on the search to find a visceral, raw driving experience. Amenities are over-rated and muddy the driving experience.

Power steering is soooo overrated, especially in a car like this! And it doesn't matter if a Lotus has AC or not: Mine had AC but it was so useless. Or just defective. Had to sell my Elise S3 for family reasons. It was a wise decision to replace it with an M140i, which is a really great car (at least it keeps dry inside when it's raining).
