See, this is why I like you Jazza. A lot of artist- at least, in my experiences- tend to brush people off if they ask for advice; and here you are with a full 20 min video explaining how to do something a lot of people don't know how to do.
For example, back when I was younger, I asked probably around ten different artist how to get started with traditional coloring. They all told me to buy as many copics as I could, but I was *never* told they needed a specific type of paper or how you can't use them like a normal marker.
This is why I love Jazza . He gives tutorials about things that people really need help with. He doesnt just do drawings that he wants to draws. The point of his videos is to help the viewers---- not just entertain.
I live in Japan, and I know the prices of Copics here. The price is more or less the same everywhere in Japan. You are talking about "a huge set" of Copics. I take it this would be the set of 72, and not 36 (36 is not that "huge!") Your friend had a very good deal then. The set of 72 runs for about 158 dollars here ( I'm talking about Ciaos, not Sketches! ).May I ask you where in Japan your friend bought these markers?
@@mariafotog /// go to Amazon jp , and you can check out what colors they have in their various sets. It should be noted that the markers in the sets are (usually) not cheaper than when bought individually, so you can give your friend a paper with the numbers of the individual markers you want. You may want to ask her to buy some refill markers, too.
I’m very appreciative of my dad for being very supportive of my art. Last year he got me the 2017 iPad Pro for drawing this year he got me the a set of copic sketches

Crucibelle 1. Kids don’t get jobs. 2. He sees it as an investment into her future rather than a waste of money, so why would he have a problem with that if he has the means to support her dreams?
@Crucibelle haha, sure. This father is supportive of the child's crestivity and that's a bad thing? In some Asian countries they break childrens pens and force them to lose hope for creativity. Ohuhu are a great alternative and much cheaper. There is also copic ciao which are the exact same quality but they contain less ink thus they are cheaper. If you go with the copics, I think something like the a copic illustration set would be great
People who are complaining about how expensive they are- it's 100% worth it. Copics are high end and very good quality, and come in a variety of colors (like Jazza mentioned). The markers have great agility in blending and smoothness. They have incredible brightness and texture (they act almost like watercolor because you can easily go in and fix/change anything needed). They work best on comic Bristol or the copic bleed proof sketchbook. However, it's not like you will get the ability to use them right away, they take tweaking and lots of practice. I've been using these for years and they're something I reach for all the time. They are 10/10z

The way they blend, the amazing flow, the overall feel, they're amazing. They are pricy, but they're definitely worth it as a long-term investment. If you can afford them, get them. Even if you aren't really good, I don't see why you shouldn't enjoy high quality aquipement. that way you can at least be sure that yor art isn't limited by your equipment.
several years ago I got a 72 set of copics for like 1/4 of price and had no idea how to use them. This video was the very first one I watched when I was trying to understand copics. The best search result I ever had. Now it was randomly recommended to me and I just had this warm fuzzy feeling and wanted to re-visit it. THX Jazza!
Part of this is answered in the video. So begin with a few colors because a huge set offers too many choices. Master his technique and then you will know what you need next. Do 100 drawings with these and that will comprise a beginning. Picasso suggested doing 30,000 paintings to learn how to paint. Not daunting if you love painting. Really it's fun.Learning how to mix and blend with his small palette will help one to achieve your results sooner I believe. Use a photostat rubbed onto your paper for a drawing. Go over the rubbing with a fine liner. Copy his colouring technique. For learning don' t spend too much time on the drawing. So which to buy? Copy his colors. Which to use? Just copy the video instructions. Train yourself by doing. Cate
That makes sense but from an artistic view I feel like colors are stressed on a bit too much. With enough smart and hard work, literally any color combo can look nice, you jut have to know at least a little bit of what you're doing.
Wait... Are you insulting your art teacher or Jazza? Are you implying that you would listen to Jazza ONLY if he were an art teacher? Or are you saying that you don't listen to your art teacher, but would listen to him/her if Jazza were him?
Thank you! I bought a couple of prismacolor alcohol markers (for less than $2 each on clearance) to try my hand with using alcohol markers. I figured I’d like to start out cheap and see how I can do before purchasing copics!
@@petmomful2260 You scored!!! I use Prismacolor markers because I am a crafter, not a professional artist and they work wonderfully for me. Personally, I would learn how to use markers in the manner that Jazza explained before I invested in Copics.
I must admit I love my Copics. I have built up my collection little by little, using coupons. But I am experimenting with other mediums, too. I am just a crafter, too, but I am retired and it is an important part of my life.

Jazza, thank you so much for this incredibly helpful info. Instead of fumbling over failed mixing and waiting of ink, you provided a thorough and precise tutorial video that truly helps. Thank you so much!
I live in australia and on crafts online you can buy each marker for $8 i did alot of research and its the cheapest price available in australia i hope it helps
Alice Duren if it helps, there is a website (dickblick.com) where you can get one marker for 3 dollars, 5 dollars most. I just ordered my markers the other day. they also sell their brand of markers which are of course, blick. they are less expensive than copic
I bought 30 copics today. $173. They sell for $8 a piece, but I get 30% off where I work. Decided to go back through your channel to find a video like this to avoid wasting product. Love you jazzaaaaaa
Legally Blonde Yeah. I just got an eight pack of them, unfortunately I can't use any of them until Christmas. They were VERY expensive. I didn't pay for them, but my mom did. They're each eleven dollars each and I don't even know if they're worth it. EDIT: But they were pretty cheap compared to the flipping 100 dollar ones.
UU _ The quality of wish products are usually bad. There are may other cheap good quality alcohol markers (copics are alchol markers) that you can get on other websites such as amazon. Do some reaserch on youtube and you can find a good alternative.
@@ActualityOfThought Haha yea. BTW No need to spend a fortune on these. I got a set of 48 Uhuhu markers that are excellent for like 40$ and I got a XP Pen Artist Tablet for Digital painting for around 400$ and I still spend a lot less that people that buy collections of these Copics. Just getting one set is around 340$ and there's sets A trough E. It's riddiculous, you have a lot more creative freedom with a set of 120 Uhuhus and a Digital tablet and spend only a fraction of what these markers cost.
came to say the same thing, there is no C17, it's supposed to be Y17 thnx for this awesome vid Jazz! really appreciate it. I picked up drawing again lately and was kinda struggling to find the right greys (and skin tones), this made a lot of sense, really helpfull thnx!
timmyg316 maybe their the Touch Markers not actual Copic Markers. Touch Marker is also a copic marker and is considered some of the cheapest alternatives of copic markers.
Another reason Copic Ciao markers are cheaper that Jazza didn't mention is that there are less colours in the Copic Ciao range than the others (358 colours in Copic Sketch and only 180 in Copic Ciao).
well you can technically get all the Copic Ciao markers and if there's a colour you want and they don't have you can always get the Sketch version since I heard both are exactly the same when it comes to colouring :)
Mariqueen it has everything to do with price, a huge studio which is what the copic markers sketch where original aimed at will want as many colours as possible so copic made that range and made more colours and made the ink reservoirs larger so they don't run out as fast when a studio are using them for hours and hours a day , obv everyone wants the best so people who ain't part of a huge company or studio want them as well
Jordan Jenkins no I mean the cost of the ciao marker itself, how many markers exist in the range has no effect on the pricing of the individual markers
When the video started I was like 'Jazza, you pronounce it wrong!' Then you said.... 'I pronounce it like that.' And I was just like 'Ohhhhh!' And I pronounce Manga like you too!
I just told my mom about copic markers today and she was telling my grandma about them because my birthday is in a couple days and she wanted to know what to get me. When my mom started explaining them she said co-pec. I told her the proper way to pronounce it but she still doesn’t get it 😂
SpicyBean i think you can make women just the face use the yellow green for skin black for hair and the pupil and pastel blue and lavender as makeup and bronze for shading on contouring
I recommend your copic videos to other artists on this and other social mediums! Because your approach goes beyond the crafter or cute uses. Best ever!
I didn’t green was a primary colour because blue and yellow=green. I thought green was a secondary colour, but anyway I love your channel and I’ve been saving up for these markers and I can get them! Thankyou Jazza for the tips! Edit: 2018 anyone?!
OKAY BUT DID HE JUST CALL GREEN A PRIMARY COLOR (Edit: so okay 202 likes but now I'm confused is it a primary color? I'm talking about like, paints or whatever. I knew magenta was used for like printers but in Art I was taught the three primary colors were RBY.)
Dude, I am looking into artist markers for the first time and your grey saturation technique in combination with the blending properties completely blew my mind. Thx so much for this tutorial!!!
ghalib dabbour dick blick is only for the USA with its dumbass dollar ratio. Forget euros or nickels or pounds right? CAUSE DOLLARS IS THE PLANT GOD DAMN CURRENCY RIGHT.
+KRYPYAT Spectrum Noir and a tiny bit cheaper. Though if you have any empty or nearly empty cheap markers you could always use soap and water to clean the rest of the ink out and use some Copic refill ink ( amount $5 per color and refills markers up to 12 times) in them after they are dry. That is what I plan to do with some dried out Faber- Castell Pitt Artist pens that I have.
It all depends on where you live :) if you live in a small town and have a local art store, then copics will be a lot cheaper. But, if you live in Chicago or another big city, copics will be a lot more expensive
Oh Wow! This is the very video I had been looking for, YEARS AGO!!! I didn't know this existed, and am embarrassed the video is nearly 4 years old. Thank you, Jazza! I needed this one. I now know what markers to get and how to use them! You're the greatest!
I got my very first copic markers a while ago and I’m IN LOVE with them!! I just got a set of red, yellow, green, blue, and black copic ciao markers and it’s AMAZING!! I’m bad at blending and I will post a review on Saturday if anyone wants to watch it soon 😉
A Little Trash Can You could also go to otakufuel.com and buy them separately, but I mean..4 of them is $20.96..so one of them would be $5.24 so...I guess if ya think about it getting them from amazon would probably be less money..but idk.
I found a store here in Melbourne that sells Copic Sketch markers for like $6 dollarydoos each, and they also give student discounts. The flip side is that they don’thave that much variety. When I bought my first set they only had about 30 different colours.
if you were thinking of buying, some of the colours have been either renamed or switched numbers. learned this cos E-21 is now soft sun instead of baby pink
I've been getting some flack about using colors that are carrying shades with my cartoon style as opposed to several different colors in the same piece. Am I doing it wrong? I've used light to dark shades and also ofset with color pencil for smaller areas but I didn't think I was wrong. Any info to set me straight?
I know it was a couple of years ago now that you made this, but your tutorial has helped me greatly… thank you so much! I also like your straight forward tutorial style.
I just bought a 36 set of copic ciao on Amazon for 85bucks with free shipping and it ended up being 93 total with tax. I thought that was expensive till I saw the same set being sold by a different seller on Amazon for 150 and then seeing Michaels selling the same set for 250. Always buy things on sale, kids.
just because you saved money doesnt mean its a good deal.. me personally i much prefer owning cheaper markers because i dont have to waste 80 bucks on coloring toys.
You got me interested in art. I've been sketching a bit. I started using hard pencils to help me draw lighter lines, and I started utilizing construction lines. I'm so satisfied with my sketching that I've decided to take the next step and spend money on alcohol markers. I just bought a big pack of Ohuhu instead of Copic, since I'm a beginner, but I'm excited to start learning how to color in my sketches. This video gave me a really good sense on how marker blending works, so I feel pretty confident in putting marker on my drawings. Even though I won't be making high quality art just yet, I feel so satisfied with the little steps of progress that I've been making. You're the man!
Jazza: *Says to use a special type of paper for copics. Me: I just use a piece of cardboard under the page on regular sketch book paper (it works just fine) XD
Dogs don't actually see black and white, they see a paler tint of the colours that we see for example if we see dark blue, dogs will see a lighter paler blue. (Written by a dog lover)
Lightcaster Studios not really, apple products are no better than samsung yet they are like 5x more expencive. copics and way better than other markers, yet they are 3x more expencive.
That Random Artist I haven't used them, but is there a comparison of Touch markers vs Copics? Can you visually see a difference in quality when two pictures are side by side? I've been watching some videos of Touch markers but it is hard to tell what the quality is like from the videos I've seen.
Lightcaster Studios From my limited personal experience using Touch markers, there doesn't appear to be a quality difference. Unfortunately I don't have too much experience with them, but they are a viable cheap alternative in my opinion. The best part is, the tips Jazza provided in this video work with the Touch markers.
Lightcaster Studios Copic's - last basically forever - very high quality build - the very best on the market - very expensive Apple - Lasts about 2 years - not the best - very expensive - high quality build - really.... really not the best...

+It's Blitz Actually, it depends on what primary colors you're talking about. Primary colors only means colors that are mixed to produce a range of other colors. Additive primary colors: red, green, blue (this is what our eyes and old televisions use to determine color); Subtractive primary colors: cyan, magenta, yellow OR red, blue, yellow ( this what you use for your printer or paint.)
+It's Blitz You were taught wrong in school on purpose, as a joke. Actually, it really depends on what your base medium is. Dyes are much different to light when it comes to color mixing. Green is one of our primary color cones, in our eyes.

Cate

Aiden Leshovsky sooooo truuue i try to find out which markers/colors I should get
That makes sense but from an artistic view I feel like colors are stressed on a bit too much. With enough smart and hard work, literally any color combo can look nice, you jut have to know at least a little bit of what you're doing.
If you were my art teacher,
I would actually listen to you
Wait... Are you insulting your art teacher or Jazza?
Are you implying that you would listen to Jazza ONLY if he were an art teacher?
Or are you saying that you don't listen to your art teacher, but would listen to him/her if Jazza were him?

This was one of the most informative videos that I've seen. Thank you so much for explaining the grays and showing how much you can do with them.
Thank you! I bought a couple of prismacolor alcohol markers (for less than $2 each on clearance) to try my hand with using alcohol markers. I figured I’d like to start out cheap and see how I can do before purchasing copics!
I just got a $40 tin of Prismacolor Premium pencils on clearance for $10! Yay!
I am just a crafter, too, but I am retired and it is an important part of my life.

me: I'm really interested in these "Copic markers." How much are they?
internet: $10 per marker
me: *flips table*
They're 7.99 in America I think
I live in australia and on crafts online you can buy each marker for $8 i did alot of research and its the cheapest price available in australia i hope it helps
In Poland they cost $2.99
Alice Duren if it helps, there is a website (dickblick.com) where you can get one marker for 3 dollars, 5 dollars most. I just ordered my markers the other day. they also sell their brand of markers which are of course, blick. they are less expensive than copic

I got my first copic marker today and I’m so excited it is E23 Hazelnut!!!!!!!😊😁😆
Braydon Lynn nice how does it work I’m getting my own copics from “wish”

timmyg316 maybe their the Touch Markers not actual Copic Markers. Touch Marker is also a copic marker and is considered some of the cheapest alternatives of copic markers.
timmyg316 WHAT
Right, off to japan
thats why im crying
How much?
You just saved people hundreds of dollars by telling us about the 12 specific markers and how to use them! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Another reason Copic Ciao markers are cheaper that Jazza didn't mention is that there are less colours in the Copic Ciao range than the others (358 colours in Copic Sketch and only 180 in Copic Ciao).
well you can technically get all the Copic Ciao markers and if there's a colour you want and they don't have you can always get the Sketch version since I heard both are exactly the same when it comes to colouring :)
........that has absolutely zero to do with price
Mariqueen it has everything to do with price, a huge studio which is what the copic markers sketch where original aimed at will want as many colours as possible so copic made that range and made more colours and made the ink reservoirs larger so they don't run out as fast when a studio are using them for hours and hours a day , obv everyone wants the best so people who ain't part of a huge company or studio want them as well
Jordan Jenkins no I mean the cost of the ciao marker itself, how many markers exist in the range has no effect on the pricing of the individual markers
Take a shot every time he says Copic
You’d be dead halfway through

With that price, I think I'll stick with my Crayolas lmao

What I got from this is that Copics are the color marker version of Apple products... @_@
Exactly

- very high quality build
- the very best on the market

Would just like to point out that Green is not a primary colour :)
***** Are you dumb? Green is made with blue and yellow.
***** Ah, fair enough :P
+It's Blitz Actually, it depends on what primary colors you're talking about. Primary colors only means colors that are mixed to produce a range of other colors. Additive primary colors: red, green, blue (this is what our eyes and old televisions use to determine color); Subtractive primary colors: cyan, magenta, yellow OR red, blue, yellow ( this what you use for your printer or paint.)
+It's Blitz You were taught wrong in school on purpose, as a joke.
Actually, it really depends on what your base medium is. Dyes are much different to light when it comes to color mixing.
Green is one of our primary color cones, in our eyes.
it's also not a creative color.
