I love the fact that the review is fair. Biased to an extent (what review isn't) but overall fair. I really like it when a comparison takes into account that the cheaper option may not be the best, but is good enough to get started and are usable. Given the math, they seem like a good investment.
I'm honestly getting sick of people rambling about how everything is biased. It's a completely meaningless addition. All you've done is get a yank or two in while saying nothing.
I guess the people at Comic just don't know how to use a stove ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Maybe there's a dirty Umber that has been knocked over ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Either way I will start gathering a group of Jazz Subs that know how to use a stove To teach Copic how to properly cook Umber
@@SerenityScratch True, but for beginners? I'd definitely pick the Touch Five/New. I wouldn't immediately buy copic just because it's cheaper over time. Some people are just starting out and are young and don't have money for a big copic pack, so even though in the long run copics are cheaper, the artist still needs to figure out if alcohol markers are their preferred medium or not. And if not, then they didn't just waste 300-600 bucks on something they're never gonna use again
pitypartie when I was a freshman in high school, I purchased a touch five pack and I highly regretted it. They were my first marker pack. If you want a cheap marker to start out with that you won’t regret, get Blick studio markers.
Hey Jazza and everyone else. Just adding a little more insight. I bought these markers a couple of years ago. They were ok. Especially since I got them to see if I actually liked working with markers. The one BIG complaint I have is that the colors fade BADLY! All my art was in a closed sketchbook, not exposed to light. In less than a year, when I looked back on those drawings, the colors were terrible and it made the harsh blending look even worse. So, just my two cents. If you still have the comparison drawing you did for this video, I’d be interested in seeing how the inks aged.
Chemical wise, this is probably a result of the alcohol in the markers evaporating. Probably normal copic markers have something in them that preserves it and keeps the alcohol from leaving the paper, or at least that’s my best guess. Thats possibly what makes them so expensive and what the other ones might be missing. I could be totally off the mark though. It’s still pretty interesting
@@leilakreslo I have a similar cheap brand of markers that I honestly really like, I'll try using a spray sealer to see if it helps to preserve the color, thanks for the idea! hopefully, it'll work
These are the markers I use! They're not copics by any means, but they're fairly comparable to my Prismacolor Markers. I'd suggest anyone getting into markers buy a starter set, and slowly replace them with copics overtime as you kill them. It gives you a range of colors to begin with that's quite broad and it allows you to see which copics you'll actually use without buying a big expensive set to begin with.
Hey there. I know it has been over a year now since you left this comment, but did you ever try to refil the touch5 ones with copic ink? Obviously some of the colors arent quite right but slightly curious cause ultimately if you can refill the cheap ones with copic ink, i could see it worth getting the cheaper ones to start and just getting ink later to save money.
Dominix that’s a good point, but the ink for copics might not fit in the touchfive and I guess you’re also paying for the pen itself (the brush pen side and stuff)
@@Dominix_tv I did actually! There's not really a good way to go about it but I was able to extend the life of a couple of them that way. I think the real issue with their longevity is the nibs aren't replaceable (I tried a couple different times but to no avail) and the nibs are so cheap that they just degrade and fray overtime, even without use.
The touch marker or other generic brand set can be found on Amazon for $30 for about 60 markers or so. Those are the ones I bought then moved to buying 12 Blick studios. My next ones will be the spectrum noir once these run out.
Since they're also alcohol based you could keep a q tip dipped in alcohol handy for blending w the cheaper ones. Annoying extra tool but if it's all you can afford it'll give you the extra blendability you miss out on.
Jazza, mind you, touchnew is an actual brand with different art products on their website, with the markers I think it was just the structural design of the copics were used, they aren’t really pushing it to be a copy of copics.
“This hurts me more that it hurts you” I don’t think so. I got goose bumps all over my body in a matter of .02 seconds after hearing that shameful noise.
I think he got the same. For me it's often like that. The noise is bad, but causing it yourself is even worse (I have it with people scratching their fingernails over those 3d cards that change depending on how you hold them)
I’ve looked on the TOUCHNEW website and they do sell touchfive markers so I think its just a different wave of markers like how Copic has copic sketch and copic Ciao TOUCHNEW has different versions, maybe different formula or pigment because the website claims that touchfive is the ‘prior version’. Sorry if it doesn’t make sense.
those touch markers are not original touch markers according to the company. they do not have any licensed resellers on ebay so you got a knock off of the copycat
@@princezzjannah6173 Most touch markers people use are fake ones. The original touch markers are a korea brand, and the price is actually similar to copics.
My recomondation is start with cheap ones , when feel happy with them on a regular base get a few Copics and replace them with the most used colors. Also learn to shade with greyscale first and than overpaint it wit your base color. You need lesser colors but have bigger variety od colors
i did the same comparing the touchfive (new idk on the pen it says five) after i bought them and they perform almost identical. the big difference you see in the video is because he is comparing a brush nib to a hard nib what is like completly different. its like comparing watercolor and silk paint. look the same but work slightly different. overall i bought the 168 marker set and i will use that in the future. after one of the touchfive markers runs out of fill i will replace it with copic and keep the cost at a minimum level. works great for me and i recommend it like that really enjoyed that video comparison and got some really accurate points. edit: they blend really well together. copic and touchfive. so no problems with combining them since they use the same kind of "ink"
If you buy a Touchfive and refill with Copic ink, does it perform like a Copic? If so, is it cheaper than buying Copics while sneakily shaving off that 20% productivity gap?
It may be true that there's no real refill/replacement method for Touchfive, but before you recommend Copics due to their longevity and reusability, consider the price difference. A Copic ranges from $7-10. That pack he bought of Touchfive put the price of each individual marker at 25c. You would need to buy about 30 of those Touchfives to equal the price of even one Copic. So you could refresh your supplies completely 10-20 times before even getting close to the cost of stocking up on a comparable base number of Copics. That's quite a bit of room before you should consider saving up to get the real thing, right? Though it is a shame if you can't make them last even longer with copic refill ink.
well... you are right but i still think you should go for copic because they got a wider range of products you might want to use. brush nibs pen nibs and stuff like that. i myself got a lot of copics already because the toufive got empty. i wont say its wrong to replace touchfive marker but i havent found a source where you can buy them as a single color. i think they are only availible as set so it will be more expensive buying that set with 40 marker for around 15-20$ and get 39 duplicates you dont need because you ran out of skin color. thats a big point for copic because the availibility is great. thats why i recommend buying copic markers after a touchfive dies because at first the money you have to spend to be able to draw is a lot smaller with touchfive and over time it will be like one or two copic marker each month if you use them frequently. and you can get refill / single units. and have that branded "quality"
WOW! I was honestly expecting this to end with him saying the cheap markers were crap and not to buy them. That was before I clicked on it, though. I don't know if I would be able to tell which drawings were done with which markers if they were put in front of me.
Then you don't use markers very often. Though, paper has an important role in this, but you can usually tell a difference in pigmentation. Someone, who colors for example with oils, will immediately be able to tell the difference between a cheap set of 20 tubes for 10 dollars from one of those arts & crafts stores and a painting done with Schmincke Professional oil colors. The same goes for acrylics, gouache, watercolors, etc. Also, the difference is much more recognizable when you have it in front of you in real life. PS: The numbers and prices are examples, I don't paint with oils so I don't know the prices, except that they are crazy expensive when they are good quality.
Olga Hein You're right. I don't use markers that often. In fact, I haven't used markers since before I was a teen. I use mostly acrylics and graphite pencils.
3 million! Congrats Jazza! 24th in Australia - whoo! Crawf made me laugh when you met old mate at the news desk. 3 times I heard him say "he has 3 million subscribers!" before old mate heard.
when buying them be sure to compare the prices from the official touchfive website and other shopping sites to find the cheapest!! i bought my 168 pack from wish for $190aud + shipping only to find it on the website for $119aud + shipping :') good thing i bought some more off of the website after i learned my mistake!
kaeli c I agree, although they are very good for backup markers or having more colors for your Copics, because being alcohol based you actually can blend a Copic and a TouchFive or similar markers.
There's one thing you should've tried... combining them! That way you could get Copic markers for the colours you use most and get cheap ones for the colours you use less

Salvation73 But, he clearly said that the cheap 80 Touch U work almost 80% than the expensive ones he is using. If that’s the case, you can find the cheapest copics that work 100% as the expensive ones. for a cheaper price. do the math
He said it was a difference of 16% in cost which is wrong. You're referring to his statement about how well they function compared to Copics overall which has nothing to do with cost differences. I did the math right, don't be rude.
I got some of the cheap ones as well, pretty good but sometimes the colour of the ink Is NOTHING LIKE the colour on the cap... learnt that the hard way mid drawing
I know its been months but i have a mix of brands of markers together spectrum noir, Prismacolor, nicole(acmoore going of business sale dirt cheap,,)and 2 other brands from amazon that all work decent compared to copic but i have. A color chart with all blues together reds together etc and leave room for when i find a great blend together i put it there so i know when coloring what goes with what i cant recommend that enough takes some time to swatch and write names and branss for each marker but time saving when coloring .
I've worked/ I own both, Copics (brush and bullet nib) and TouchWhatever and to me, blending is an issue of practice. Of course the brush nib blends smoother but in the other hand, Jazza had years and years of practice working with brush nibs. (I'd like to see him try out the classic Copics with the bullet nib... Video idea? ) The workflow with bullet nibs is quite different but with patience and practice you definitely can get smooth blends. Also, did I miss it in the video or did he not go over the darker color with the lighter color while blending? That and going in small circles improves blending immensely in my experience.
Yeah after some practise I got quite similar results between my TouchFives and my Copic Ciaos when blending, its propably just the lack of a brush tip. If these markers had one I'd never buy Copics.
I have the Touch School/Five/New 'Copics' too and i really like them because they are cheap and so i can practise before using the more expensive/better ones
I got these markers a while ago from their website for about 40 Euro. I personally really like them. For my needs they perform well enough, since I mainly sketch, and dont needs a brushnib for that. There is a Touch Brush version, it just costs more than the non-brush version. Still not as expensive as Copics :D
I suggest that you buy ohuhu! The color is nice and if you want to blend the colors, it blend nicely. Oh yea, and it's cheap! And great video btw, keep the good work!
Jazza, you should try out the Art-n-Fly Copic alternative markers. They have a brush tip, and the ink is actually refillable like Copic. It's more expensive than the TouchNewFiveWhatever, but still much cheaper than Copic.
xXwizzardofozziXx you're welcome! The only real downside I've found with them is the color doesn't match the cap very well, but I just made a swatch page so it didn't matter too much
I have got those too and love them! Since I’m very conscious about using art supplies I can use those without feeling like I’m ruining it with my bad skills.
Benjammin same, however we can be sure he's used that colour before this experiment. So- since it isn't brand new it's hard to be completely say how much life the marker has compared to the rip off
yea I see what you mean, the "dried out" section towards the end of the large block of the Copic was much dryer than the TouchFive, but that said, the Copic had a very strong solid range which lasted longer with deeper pigment. They are both very good imo, but Copic still especially wins in blending and pigment lay down
Wow, I’ve seen this so many times on wish, eBay, etc and always thought about giving them a try however I thought they would be awful and just garbage, I’m actually pretty impressed with them by the looks of this video they seem not too bad, obviously still not as good as the real ones but for the price and for someone starting out these seem great! Definitely going to pick them up and give them a try now.
First time I watched one of your videos and I loved it from the beginning even though I am neither into drawing nor do I own or plan on purchasing any sort of markers. I knew I was gonna subscribe but what really made me pause the video and immediately klick the button was at 11:00 You are amazing, your subtle humor is exactly what I still needed to complete my youtube front page. Thanks man
Just practise, I know it sounds stupid to draw circles over and over, but it helps to get that correct circle look. Also when drawing circles u might want to use shoulder/ arm/ elbow movement, not just wrist movement. That's kinda all I know, I'm not that good of an artist either but I hope it helps
Don't buy professional items if you're not a professional aka WORKING in the field(no, posting to instagram or selling 5 commisions a year for 10$ is not working). It'd be like buying the a 1000$ Makita combi drill to hang up a picture and then use it maybe once or twice
to be honest though, the dry section of the cheapos looks a lot more consistent and solid than the copic's... and the transition from usable to dry isn't that harsh. I think you went over the edges a lot more with the copic... just look at that hat and the jacket.... nothing stops where it should, which is quite ironic :'D
this is still proof that the coptic markers are way overpriced if the touch five or touch new or whatever markers are $20 for 80 then the coptic ones should be like $40 or $50 for 80
No, because you only ever need ONE set. Unlike Copics, you have to buy the cheap ones over and over. They usually can't be refilled and the nibs can't be replaced. Copics HAVE to be expensive because each person only ever needs one set. They'd go out of business if they sold them for the same price this company does. That's basically what happened to Nokia versus Apple; Apple phones break easily, so you have a reason to keep buying them. Nokia phones lasted forever, and now Nokia's out of business.
@momentinpassing well their are yes and no to your comment. yes, Copic iw priced that way for a reason that makes good business sense. but if you go to japan where they are made, you can get them at some art stores for about $3. a good chunk of copics price is because Japan needs to have better shipping fees for items leaving japan. also since copic hires a sceondary company for any shipments outside of japan, it adds even more fees. So yes, your right, copics are expensive for a reason, its just the reasons could easily be avoided if copic spent more on funding a devision to handle international shipments rather then paying a third party to handle marketing and distribution internationally.
Even though tou have a point the copic brand in itself is for more proffesional artists meaning that even the simplest detail, like toothed paper in a sketchbook, is what makes them so expensive. The brush tip too is a very expensive thing and if you buy fake copics WITH a brush tip they are very expensive already.

Anyone know if Copic nib replacements fit the touchfives?
@@RirtyDascal i dont think so. but i havent tried
WOW! I was honestly expecting this to end with him saying the cheap markers were crap and not to buy them. That was before I clicked on it, though. I don't know if I would be able to tell which drawings were done with which markers if they were put in front of me.
anime

Crawf made me laugh when you met old mate at the news desk. 3 times I heard him say "he has 3 million subscribers!" before old mate heard.
Need a bottom baseline. Must compare with Crayola or RoseArt
You could buy these markers, then buy a colorless blender to blend them with and save a bunch of money
Lol another army in dah house
I did that
Thanks for the idea man it’s great
Colorless blenders just remove your ink they can't blend
blenders just move/remove ink, not actually blend
thats why if you oversaturate a color with a blender, it goes lighter and has a weird texture
OH THANK HEAVEN, at least the cheap markers have Phhhhhhh-thalo Blue. 😂
Adelheid Hock lmao 😂😂🤣
I'm getting into art now, but being a poor 13 year old, I can't afford copics. I'm definitely gonna try these!
Holly Laver I wish you the best of luck! Art is an amazing, but difficult journey! 😊
That's what I did and they work perfectly fine. I've managed to create some pretty good art with them
when buying them be sure to compare the prices from the official touchfive website and other shopping sites to find the cheapest!! i bought my 168 pack from wish for $190aud + shipping only to find it on the website for $119aud + shipping :') good thing i bought some more off of the website after i learned my mistake!
Go for it! I also bought the same markers since I couldn't afford 350$ copics and they were definitely good enough.
Wow, the art community is really nice. If you mentioned you were 13 on another channel everybody would be rude to you

Also since you'll probably never use those markers again fell free to send them my way
kaeli c I agree, although they are very good for backup markers or having more colors for your Copics, because being alcohol based you actually can blend a Copic and a TouchFive or similar markers.
Or he could let MJ play around with them
Sara Ghabeli Unless they're toxic
kaeli c LMFAO
There's one thing you should've tried... combining them! That way you could get Copic markers for the colours you use most and get cheap ones for the colours you use less
Great idea!

Leader Daniel no, delete that.
If 72 Copics are $370 (a little more than $5 each) and those Touch5 are 80 for $20 (.25 cents each) that would be a cost difference of 95%.
Salvation73
But, he clearly said that the cheap 80 Touch U work almost 80% than the expensive ones he is using.
If that’s the case, you can find the cheapest copics that work 100% as the expensive ones. for a cheaper price.
do the math
Gee. Thanks. -_-
He said it was a difference of 16% in cost which is wrong. You're referring to his statement about how well they function compared to Copics overall which has nothing to do with cost differences. I did the math right, don't be rude.
just say it’s cheaper and go
I thought they were 80 for 35
I got some of the cheap ones as well, pretty good but sometimes the colour of the ink Is NOTHING LIKE the colour on the cap... learnt that the hard way mid drawing
Video idea? )
The workflow with bullet nibs is quite different but with patience and practice you definitely can get smooth blends.
Jazza, i love your videos man, you probably won't see this but you helped me out in animation and other stuff thank you for everything JAZZA!

I got these markers a while ago from their website for about 40 Euro. I personally really like them. For my needs they perform well enough, since I mainly sketch,
and dont needs a brushnib for that. There is a Touch Brush version, it just costs more than the non-brush version. Still not as expensive as Copics :D
There is a brush version? Oh hell yeah want that. Thanks for telling!
Thanks for the information!

the blue one looks like neptune
I suggest that you buy ohuhu! The color is nice and if you want to blend the colors, it blend nicely. Oh yea, and it's cheap!

Dhanti Habriansyah Vexx just tried them his drawing looks awesome
Jazza, you should try out the Art-n-Fly Copic alternative markers. They have a brush tip, and the ink is actually refillable like Copic. It's more expensive than the TouchNewFiveWhatever, but still much cheaper than Copic.
Cool info! Thanks🙃
xXwizzardofozziXx you're welcome!

So- since it isn't brand new it's hard to be completely say how much life the marker has compared to the rip off
i did too
yea I see what you mean, the "dried out" section towards the end of the large block of the Copic was much dryer than the TouchFive, but that said, the Copic had a very strong solid range which lasted longer with deeper pigment. They are both very good imo, but Copic still especially wins in blending and pigment lay down

Don't buy professional items if you're not a professional aka WORKING in the field(no, posting to instagram or selling 5 commisions a year for 10$ is not working). It'd be like buying the a 1000$ Makita combi drill to hang up a picture and then use it maybe once or twice
Love you Jazza keep up the good work can you do some more VR stuff, maybe Thanos holding “dust”
Got the moves like Jazza
So you get them so you know... when you use them for school drawing sketch *looks awkwardly at the camera*
to be honest though, the dry section of the cheapos looks a lot more consistent and solid than the copic's... and the transition from usable to dry isn't that harsh.
I think you went over the edges a lot more with the copic... just look at that hat and the jacket.... nothing stops where it should, which is quite ironic :'D
this is still proof that the coptic markers are way overpriced if the touch five or touch new or whatever markers are $20 for 80 then the coptic ones should be like $40 or $50 for 80
Only copic are lightfast
@momentinpassing You might like this: th-cam.com/video/a11wlngpuSY/w-d-xo.html
Gday Jazza, 1. I'm Aussie 2. I bought the other markers you got the touchnew ones cause I cant afford real ones and I love them and this helped me when buying the markers and I actually don't mind them so I went down to Office works nd tested real copics and my lord the diffrence was very similar but the copics were $13.95 for 1 marker but i got 2 80 packs and 1 36 and 60 packs of touches for about nearly $200.
