- Death or Treat is a charming 2D action roguelite game with a Halloween theme!
The story takes place in the Hallowverse, a world drenched in the spirit of Halloween, and follows a ghostlike creature called Scary. Scary visits the area of Hallowtown in order to sell his merchandise, but realizes that the place is deserted. It doesn’t take long to realize that the reason for this is the population’s gradual addiction to Storyum, a substance that oozes from the use of various social media platforms that are ruled over by four different creatures, led by a media empire mogul known as Mr. Fackerberg. Angered, Scary decides to take matters into his own hands and fight his way through mindless legions of enemies in order to bring down the system and free the population from its clutches!

Naturally I'd expect something like this to release around Halloween for more "seasonal feel", lol.

It has an undeniable charm about it! I just wish it had more replayability value.
@@soulsborneseeker Yeah, understandable. 🥲 But as with anything, it's always best to keep expectations low to minimize disappointment. I've somehow learned to like indie games for what they are and feel much happier this way, and of course every now and then there will be this mind-blowing release that will keep me playing for hundreds of hours. 😇

Good review and I totally agree with you. I only played the demo though, I really liked the visuals but I remember I wasn't a fan of the clunky and floaty controls.
It had a lot of potential, but it fell short, unfortunately 😞

Saw this at gamestop physically on the switch and I was curious about it cause it's close to Halloween, if I'm able I will be picking this up despite its issues

As far as I can see, the game was released on the 11th of May, a couple of weeks ago. I bought it on that same day.

I haven't seen mention of an update/patch yet, but I'm hoping they will announce something in the near future.
The graphics looks very very nice .. okay, pretty black and white focused, but it fts the atmosphere. Hmm, but only 5,5 rating .. guess I need to have a 2nd look into that game again. If the controls are "floating", maybe it is due to being a ghost? Maybe .. who knows ...
I see what you did there with the ghost 😂 Overall it's not a bad game, but I'd expect more variety and replayability from a roguelite 😞

A lot of people have been pointing that out for sure. Haven't played Have A Nice Death yet, but those who have played both say that it is far superior to Death or Treat.
in the switch,I really Hate fighting the first Boss whenever i hit the red light to make it green it comes back red like many times, so the boss has many chances to Kill me.. I wish this game has an option to change the difficulty, I almost threw my switch cuz i keep dying many many times! shit
It can be very challenging, especially during the first run. I didn't get to play it on Switch, but the PS5 version definitely had its fair share of difficulty!
This looks a lot like Hollow Knight in some regards.
Art-wise they have similarities, but the gameplay is very different!
It's weird this game looks both cheap and well-made at the same time. Stuff like "Joe Bite Them" completely obliterates the atmosphere the graphics portray, the animations look amazingly well done, but the combat looks so dull. I feel bad because it at least seems like people put some effort into this, but no one seems to really care about it.
It truly feels like a missed opportunity. Its world and art-style are beautiful, but the combat and replayability aspects are lacking.
Games boring and a grind fest, just got the platinum about 30 mins ago, took me 35 hours
Congrats on the Plat! Unfortunately, after the first playthrough it loses a lot of its novelty. A great art-style can only take a game so far. I did two playthroughs and then kind of lost interest since there just wasn't enough incentive for me to go on :(
@Soulsborne Seeker yeh I dunno why I bothered to keep playing to be honest grinding certain ingredients was a pain
@@pasta1169 It has happened to all of us. I can think of a few games I kept playing for reasons I can't really explain even though they were kinda boring.
Wish they wouldnt do political names or political stuff in general. Games are to get away from that crap.
I agree, though I'll admit that aside from the funny names, there's really no political commentary here to make anyone feel uncomfortable!
