Voidwrought Metroidvania Review - Soulsborne Seeker
Voidwrought is a cosmic horror metroidvania game with deep lore and beautiful visuals!
A big thank you to the developer, Powersnake, for providing me with a review copy of Voidwrought!
Voidwrought transpires within an ancient city which was once home to the First Civilization, a place now withered and reduced to nothing but a husk of its former self. However, once every century the city comes alive as Ichor, the lifeblood of the progenitors, bursts forth once more, resulting in a siren’s call to a variety of different opportunists, each one venturing down the fallen world for their own purposes. You embody an unholy creation birthed by the fusion of Ichor and the Void, a creature known as the Simulacrum, tasked with exploring the city in order to end the reign of the old, tainted gods that inhabit it. But whether your actions will lead to the land’s salvation or condemnation remains to be seen…

BioGun Metroidvania Preview - Soulsborne Seeker
Hail to you, Soulsbourne seeker! I...pretty much agree with all you said in your review, I thoroughly enjoy your in-depth looks, as do I this game. To me, this is peak mv of the year material, despite its flaws. Its fun, its fast paced, looks and sounds great and traversing the world and uncovering secrets is rewarding and feels good. And, there is a sense of character empowerment; which can make or break an mv, even if its by far in you favor, quite early on. I frankly want to see more of this world and its lore and bizarre creatures~
Indeed, I'm truly hoping they expand upon the world and lore of this game with a sequel!
This looks promising, thanks for sharing! ❤
Always a pleasure!
Unsighted and the first one are not metroidvanias
ABYSS X ZERO is definitely advertised as a 3D metroidvania by the developers, as stated on their Steam page. As for Unsighted, the overall consensus is that it is a metroidvania/soulslike/zelda-like, though I haven't played it yet!
Greek?
Indeed :D
It's like Ori and the will of the wisps...
Hmm, haven't played that yet, I'm afraid!
Best MV since PoP, I loved Nine Sols but I absolutely worshipped my time with Voidwrought, had to 100% two saves before being sated with the absolute beauty of the game, flaws aside
I agree, one of the great MVs of 2024!
I'm loving Voidwrought however the only gripe I have is that I was using/wearing The Lost relic which gives u more currency when killing enemies and all of a sudden it just totally disappeared which really sucks..I'm playing on the Switch did this happen to anyone else?
Unfortunately it was PC for me :/ I think I heard of a switch issue, though I believe that was related to getting one of the endings, but take that with a grain of salt.
It did not disappear, it changed into The Guardian relic after 5000 Ichor absorbed 🤭 But since it goes to another slot, you did not realize it :/
@@tristanbauchet4000 Omgoodness thank you for clarifying that! 🙏 I honestly thought it was a Hollow Knight situation where it was fragile or something and just broke from taking too much damage and without warning lol Ty again 👍
@tristanbauchet4000 I don't have no Guardian relic in my inventory so I'm not sure what you're talking about..all I know is I had The Lost, or whatever it was called, equipped it disappeared and nothing replaced it in my inventory..do I have to re-buy it from the 2nd merchant in the void or something?
fantastic game! I recommend whole heartedly!
I completely agree!
Buy or not buy?
Depends on what you feel about the game based on the review. That being said, there's also Voidwrought available (they were the two big MVs of the month), and between the two I recommend Voidwrought!
@@soulsborneseeker Thank you :-)
Thank you for the review, can you please (in your next game reviews) talk about game settings, like can we customize keyboard buttons or forced to play with predefined, can we change resolution, languages, audio...etc and from your point of view, do you think the story is strong enough to have a sequel or possible DLC expansion? Love your channel.
Thank you! I'll definitely take your suggestions into consideration. Option-wise, I usually include information in the case of accessibility settings, but I'll see what I can do for other things as well!
I def recommend this game. It's needs a little polish, but the devs are already working on it. It's fun, dripping style, and very addictive. 8/10
I agree, with a bit of work to balance difficulty this will go much higher!
Have you done unsighted
Not yet, but it's in the plans!
Ill finish the game this weekend whilst taking some mushroom chocolates. Love this game and the scythe especially!! Like fr the sfx and the combat are so crunchy and satisfying
Indeed, combat is incredibly satisfying!
Really hope this comes to ps5
I'd be very surprised if it didn't at some point!
Another great review - I was looking forward to your thoughts on this one! Game looks excellent and can't wait to try it out.
One of the best MVs of the year, in my humble opinion!
Nah its a 9.5/10 to me easily, I loved it more than Nine Sols. Nine Sols was too much Sweatfest to me, Im glad Voidwrought dropped the corpse running
Can't really argue with you on that one, this was one of the best experiences I've had with an MV in 2024!
@@o0XxShimmyxX0o i have a nice castlevania fan game if anyone care . This council guy sux.soulborne i cant backtrack
Maybe I'll try to play. Visually the game looks not bad. Associations with a full knight cannot be avoided in this regard. But there are shortcomings: they did not try at all on the interface, as if it was on the oal based on the alpha version, it remains so; the level design is very strange in places, the platforms are square and random, they hang in the air, the character lacks a moveset and abilities, in places he feels as if he is not nimble with his hand. The equipped medallions are mostly as useless as in the hollow knight. The narrative and plot - unfortunately, again blurred as in all similar "pseudo-mystery games, pseudo because they simply don’t tell anything normally. This manner of presentation like Dark Souls is already annoying. Moments when opponents throw at the player, what's the point if you have to fight back with a monotonous blow. But what the game did well was the design of the enemies and NPC, it's really impressive, that's what makes you want to play the game. IMoments when opponents throw at the player, what's the point if you have to fight back with a monotonous blow. t's a shame that not as much effort was put into the rest of the game as into the design of enemies and NPC. Unfortunately, the game was more of a disappointment, but its strong point is its visuals.
I highly recommend giving this a shot, it is one of the best MVs of 2024 in my humble opinion! As for the mystery approach to storytelling, I agree it is not everyone's cup of tea, but it grew on me from my Dark Souls days :D
@@soulsborneseeker On the contrary, I don't like the method of narration since Dark Souls. Like mystery, but as for me, it's just problems of creative impotence.
This is such a great game.
It really is! It also preyed on my love for Cosmic Horror, so I never stood a chance :D
@@soulsborneseeker the two MV goat!

I beated 200 metroidvanias and animall well are one of i want to beat.. btw you know sounos course are a metroidvania?
Hello there! Which Voidwrought boss are you referring to? For Animal Well, I recommend posting in the game's Steam forum with the issue, so that you can receive some assistance. As for Souno's Curse, yes, it is a metroidvania! I played it during the Steam Next fest, it looks quite good so far!
@soulsborneseeker the conucil the first boss are hard total

@@EduardoAraujo-fs2hh Just notice the attack pattern of each mask. Every mask has a specific attack style which you can figure out and avoid. For example, the mask that has the vertical laser needs you to slide beneath the two platforms left and right with good timing to avoid the hit, and so on!
@@soulsborneseeker ok i will try i cant backtrack from here and kil him when i am more strong? Thanks this boss for a first boss are hard. And Cursed Broom out today metroidvania or no thanks man game are good .but in your review you dont talked about the awesome sound song.and some janky jumps.still far better than astral awaken i hope i kill this boss and move on ..
Will you be playing Voidwrought?
If it comes to ps5 yes i wil, otherwise not
@Jeroen-1989 I'll be surprised if it doesn't make the jump to PS5 at some point!
Maybe. I do love me a good monster world and there's stuff that piques my interest for certain. But i need to be careful with my budgeting and currently have my eye on other games. Although none are due to release soon. Plus, i'm awaiting the DLCs/future content for Cookie Cutter and Decline's Drops, trying to spread word of them as much as possible to help them out. Some of the games most on my mind are PRIM, My Familiar, Immortal: And the Death that Follows, Pillory, The Midnight Walk, Magenta Horizon and Lost in Random: The Eternal Die. And i think there's DLC for Blud and Zet Zillions too. Either way: Thank you for this video. And i'm glad this game proved fun for ya. Take care and wish you a good new month!
@@jurtheorc8117 Thank you, have a good month as well! From the games you mentioned, I'm most excited for Lost in Random!
Man i would like to watch a Lore video of Voidwrought. And different endings. I hope somebody makes Story Explained video.
I agree, its lore is ripe for exploration!
Guns of Fury🎮
Should I buy this or Afterimage?
Both are excellent, but I think this one is much more impressive, so I'd go with the Prince!
@@soulsborneseeker Awesome! I look forward to playing it, thanks!
@@stiickyicky420 Have fun!
It's beautiful!
Agreed!
How does this compare to Afterimage? I liked the demo, so I grabbed it, but I'm a bit behind on this years' metroidvanias, so it may take me a bit to get to it.
It feels like a much more compact version of Afterimage. Similar in overall mentality of lots of bosses and many collectibles, but on a much larger scale (and, of course, the visuals are samey).
I completed it and i enjoyed it!
Glad to hear that!
Thank you for playing Chicken with Robot Legs and thanks for the feedback, I'm working to make the running mechanic feel better, I invite everyone to give the demo a try 🐔
You had me at "Chicken with Robot Legs" :D
Voidwrought vs Awaken: Astral Blade. Please let me know who likes which one better. Thank you!
I'm currently playing Voidwrought to review it, so stay tuned for that (though a preliminary assessment says I'm enjoying Voidwrought more).
@@soulsborneseeker Thanks for your speedy reply. Much appreciated!
Voidwrought
Voidwrought it is!
wich one you like most this one or afterimage?
Afterimage for sure! It was my MV GOTY of 2023! This feels like a much more compact version of that game.
@@soulsborneseeker thank you!!!!
Hmm hearing that only the bosses are though is odd. I hope they're not too big of a roadblock but at least exploration isn't hindered this way, and backtracking is also less cumbersome. Are the respawn points close to the bosses and what is the penalty upon dying? Those aspects will determine if i get it although it's quite likely i will. It's still on sale for a while so probably will snatch a copy soon
Save points are right next to the bosses and, as far as I could tell, I didn't suffer any penalties when dying (at least none that I noticed)!
@@soulsborneseeker ok sweet now i'm guaranteed to pick this up, thanks for another awesome review seeker! I trust you and joy 100%!
Another great review! I am now much more interested in trying this game than I was in the past, your reviews are always so helpful. It sounds like many of the issues you came across can be patched out, so I will wait for a while and play other games before grabbing this one, but it has been added to my list for sure.
That's great to hear!
Good review, but after playing it for a few hours, its not for me... I feel the movement is too rough and just doesn't feel appealing. But I'm sure others feel differently.
The important thing is you gave it a chance!
That's what demos are for
thanks for the review, love the channel, keep it up!
Thank you for the kind words, much appreciated!
I'm certainly curious to play it. I tried the demo last year but I found the game to be very rough. However, it appears they did a lot of work on it since then. Thanks for the review.
Always a pleasure! Yeah, they refined it a lot, though some minor issues are still there, which the developers are working on fixing!
Will you be playing AWAKEN: Astral Blade?
For a Chinese game, I was surprised how gay the story was.
@@vincentmokujin8117 Hmm, you kind of lost me there. Are you referring to some specific plot point? I do believe a romantic relationship between two characters of the same sex is hinted at, but I wouldn't say there was anything explicitly stated or shown in the game as far as I could tell.
@@soulsborneseeker While it may be entirely possible that the dialogue is the way it is because of a subpar translation, besides the main antagonist who is trying to blow up half the planet because she has a temper tantrum for 500 years because her girlfriend unalived herself in a vain effort to stop a war, she also tries to project her feelings onto the main character (which is extra weird) because she was created partly thanks to her girlfriends DNA. Then there is the main character and her "attachment" to Cythna, who is an AI version of her own independent thinking (the story is all over the place). Lastly, and this might really be just a translation thing, the secondary antagonist Dr. Herevus is implied to be in a relationship with professor Liur (the guy who you rescue at Ancient Temple) because they use the word relationship and that they both had an adopted daughter who died which again made Herevus mad and wanting to be an antagonist (I sense a pattern here). Now look. I am going to be frank in saying I do not enjoy this time of storytelling in my games. It is a personal preference to which I have a right to and refuse to be shamed. At the same time I acknowledge, that as a TH-camr and a content creator it is best to remain politically neutral for a number of reasons. So I do not expect you to entertain this conversation as I really appreciate your channel and had previously tried a number of games thanks to your recommendation. My issue is more with Steam and the developers who refuse to use the appropriate labels even though they are there to inform the potential customers. If there exists a label for female protagonist why do they not use the other one too? At this point I expect this type of storytelling in Western games, but having been prominently featured in a Chinese game made me realize that any game can have it. Again, I would not want to jeopardize your content in any way, but there are a lot of people who would appreciate this type of information in your reviews if Steam and the developers are not willing to come clean. At any rate thanks for the reply.
@@vincentmokujin8117 No worries, I don't mind civil discourse when it comes to any topic of discussion. At the end of the day, everyone has different tastes. To be truthful, this type of narrative threads aren't something I mind in games, but to each their own!
I hate these great looking games that only last 3-5 hours
