You have just given me everything I need to build a kit that I pieced together through Motley Mods. This is everything that I was trying to do. Thank you!
this is pretty cool making mods from scratch instead of buying one because you know whats wrong with it and everything if you have problems with the mod.
Dude!!! Holy freaking crap bro!!! Honestly man... I have been searching n searching for days, n weeks for an official DIY box mod tutorial from start to finish because I'm gonna be very very soon making my own n making them to sell as well. And your video was so simple and easy to follow!!! Like unbelievable man, and it was so cool to see how happy you were to finish the box n to see that it was a success!!! Thank you bro for posting this video!!! It helped me out a great deal
I've used the same Keystone battery sled, but now I either get a 3D printed sled with the edge already dremeled, or I use two single 18650 sleds and tape them together. That seems to work well and keeps things pretty simple.
that box so down it hurts! (thats a good thing) awesome video and box. im in the process of doing countless hours of R/D getting ready to build a box that fits all of my needs and this video has really inspired some ideas for me! Its amazing what some careful planning and skill can create
My ever first box mod was like yours . I placed N channel mosfet on the left from the 510 negative thread.the digital meter placed on the side down the back end , I cut out the side and used a basal to sit the digital screen in,then used ta clicky little tactile metal switch for that to read the voltage and battery drop when taking a vape. Then put another tatile switch further up for the on button, Never had an issue with the box . N channel mofet stops the switch from getting hot and burning out as you know. Got to be over ten years now , Owe I did have to replace mosfet due to issue with battery caused the mosfet to pop.
Get the sigelei dude you won't regret it. Love your work I have been wanting to build a 1590g for some time just haven't committed to doing it but after seeing your channel I'm going to give it a go
Glad I found your video! I'm going to attempt my first build using an Alpinetech 1590g+ box.. A couple ticks wider, taller and deeper than the Hammond.. Glad to see everything fits nicely as I'm going for a similar build to yours minus the kill switch and voltmeter switch.. It's my first so I'm going for simple :D Great video!
Dave the Vaper one awesome video loving the switch. I was wondering how to wire the fire switch. I'm having troubles with wiring. I recently quit smoking and your videos are just amazing I watch them when I get off work every night. The for the video and response of you do :)
Víðarr Kerr battery wrap is shit man, this is dangerous in 18650 and when using it at mech mod without cut off and other safety modifications. This is why you can buy wraps to the cells. It can cause short circuit.
Great job Dave!,Funny thing is I just ordered all the parts to build one just like this then I just seen your video lol- you beat me to it brother lol I hope mine turns out 1/2 as good as yours! Keep up the good work!
Nice work. I plan this as my second build, except in a larger wooden enclosure. Need to sharpen my skills before trying a tight enclosure. One niggle though. IMO you should cut/sand/file those switches down. Otherwise a great looking mod. ENJOY
Vetra Woosley Thanks. Do you mean sand down the slide switches? They really stick out far enough that I can easily switch them with the tip of my thumb... I'm wasn't trying to do something where I need a pointy tool to change settings on my voltmeter.
Dave the Vaper Yes I mean the slide switches. Perhaps it is not as pronounced in real life but on camera they appear to protrude a good 3mm. I would think 1mm would suffice sans tools and look much better. Of course this is a minor nit pick of an aesthetic nature. Not meant to offend. I will be pleased if my copy of your build turns out anywhere near as good. VAPE ON.
Cody, I drilled them as far down as needed for them to sit flush. It helps not to accidentally drill them slightly to big (where the magnet falls all the way through), but even if you did this its not hard to still set the magnets with the epoxy and the lid will still look great.
Dave the Vaper You could of used the opposite direction on the switches instead of having 2 switches. Center being off (unless those switches are only on/off instead of the on/off/on that I'm thinking of.)
I'm attempting a mosfet controlled mod as well. Quick questions for you though, 1) what does the 220 ohm resistor have to do with the LED? 2) does the mosfet generate a lot of heat and will I need a heat sink?
im curious to know where you wire your volt meter in a series box mod configuration?? where do you put the leads on the volt meter so that when the button is pressed, the volt meter turns on and shows batt voltage AND when atty is screwed on it shows you voltage under load. im thinking between your switch positve and mosfet SOURCE?! please let me know and awesome box mod work man! i love your videos!
Chris King You could do it that way. It has to be the switch contact not directly connected to battery positive, though, or your voltmeter won't turn off. So the contact going to the gate pin on the MOSFET. Or just to the gate pin. It won't show the full load voltage running through the atomizer, though, unless you wire the other lead to MOSFET drain (or the negative contact on the 510). Wiring to source will show the battery voltage under load (good for monitoring to swap out batteries), but the actual voltage running through the atty will be a bit lower and can be obtained from the drain pin (good for calculating watts of power).
Bboy Ralph Hey Ralph, I just drew this one: i.imgur.com/aQxiL04.jpg I tried to use different colors so the wires aren't too hard to follow. There is a 15k ohm resistor attached to the MOSFET gate and source pins and a 220 ohm resistor attached to one of the LED contacts on the switch.
Hey So I was wondering what gauge wire are you using on that? It looks like there are quite a few different wire sizes. Also CooDoos for fitting all that into those little G boxes.
hey dave, very good video thank you, im trying to build one box mod like this myself. Do you know if i can use a Sub Ohm Tank like the Kanger Subtank Mini on a Box like this? Best Regards Andy
Hey Dave first thanks for your videos I really enjoy them! secondly, do you have one place that you buy all of your components at or do you buy them from different places? Thanks!
nah it protects the switch from the full load going to the 510... when the 'gate' pin detects power it opens the circuit from source to drain... a mosfet can be configured differently to prevent reverse polarity damage as well
Your running two 18650 parallel batteries right? Then why are you only getting 4 volts im confused I though the idea of parallel was to double down your power???
Parallel doubles capacity (and amperage capability). Series doubles voltage. Since wattage (power) is a function of voltage squared over resistance (simplified quick math...there are other formulas as well) parallel doesn't change power.
NEED HELP BUILDING A BOX MOD 8 BATTERIES. TWO 510'S. how to wire in fuses (1 after every battery)? need a special switch to alternate between the 510's or a regular one will do?
What ohms you suggest for my diy box without mosfet? I got too much voltage drop with 0.39ohm build... I used 1mm solid copper wire and little bit 230v braided copper wire to mod. I feel like im getting almost 1 volt drop when i compare 4.2v on rx200s with same build to that box with 4.2v batteries.
Its a tight fit without epoxy, but obviously harder to remove with a little epixy on the edges after the voltmeter is pushed in there. I didnt have a problem with it seeping through.
can you help me? im doing exactly like your box mod but normal fire button with 2 screw and no voltmeter switch, only lock switch. can you help me to draw a diagram?
I followed your diagram completely and when I hit the voltmeter switch it doesn't stay on. It only makes it so that if its on then it's on only when you fire it. When its off It doesn't turn on at all. Is there something you added to your mod but not the diagram?
so if i wanted to just have the voltmeter on when firing i would just run a wire to the negative sled and positive wire to the positive 510 connection point? or would i run it off the MOSFET drain instead?
attach positive wire of the voltmeter to the output of your fire button and then the negative of the voltmeter to the negative side of your sled. this will show voltage with load.
+Masen Jensen there's no polarity with a voltmeter when testing for voltage, all it's doing is showing you the difference between the two things you are testing, hence the reason why when you stick one pin from voltmeter to the hot in a receptacle and the other to ground you will read 120v, and the same from neutral to your hot
Dave the Vaper Really great job man, bravo! I was like, he is never gonna fit that in there, but look at you go man, righteous! I know i threw it out there before man, but if you ever want to trade one of those pieces of art boxes for my Sigelei 150, im down man! Peace :)
Brian Vath I did just agree to build a custom mod for someone on e-cigarette forum who offered me $100, but I am not really offering a warranty or anything. If he drops it and one of the solder connections breaks he is going to have to find someone to fix it or ship it back to me, but I move around a lot and am currently in the UK. It's really just something that I occasionally do for fun when I have free time, but I don't really have the time or need the extra money to make a whole business out of it. An unregulated box doesn't work like a Sigelei either, the atomizers need to be specifically built to draw the preferred amount of power (i actually prefer it this way) as opposed to just building whatever and turning up the volts. If this is what you want, we could work something out. What kind of box do you want?
Dave the Vaper Thats cool man, i understand that for sure. The kind of box I've been really searching for is a dual 26650 parallel, unregulated box. I got a Dimitri and an Invader 2 and really enjoy building to get my desired vape, my quarrel with it is battery life really. So im thinking with two 26650's i could go all day. What ya think?
Im still having trouble with getting my voltmeter to work, I have a triple parallel 18650 with a led push button 560 Ohm 1 watt resistor for the push button and I wired it exactly as you did. The voltmeter is a 3 wire voltmeter, 1 red +, 1 white +, and the negative. Wired into a separate voltmeter switch... Any suggestions?
you only going to use red and black. wire black to negative of battery sled, then red to the wire that goes from your positive to the 510. then it will only cut on with button pushed
+grantd272 Actually, If you wired it like that, the voltmeter would be on all the time. In the diagram that I posted here, the voltmeter switch toggles between the voltmeter being connected directly to battery positive (or the 510 pin) or connected to the switched positive (or the gate pin on the MOSFET). This toggles the voltmeter between being always on or just on when the button is pushed. Also, on a three-wire voltmeter, one of the wires is going to be volts measured and the other two are going to be power to turn on the VM. So, you will need to wire two wires to positive (probably red and white) and black to ground.
+grantd272 That would work too for a switched voltmeter. The drain pin is pretty much the same thing as connecting the VM ground to 510 negative. It would show more voltage drop on the VM, but thats not what I diagramed here on this particular mod.

A lot of the stuff is the misspelled please please ask something doesn't read write or look right it's because my translator kind of sucks on my iPad so let me know if there's anything that you can do and happy 4th of July
Greetings human. Can someone please show me a wiring diagram for a 12v 5 pin led switch? and for my resistor, a 220 ohm resistor 1/4 watts? sorry for my english, im an alien.
ross horley 3-wire voltmeter just uses separate wires to power the voltmeter and to read a voltage of something. In a mod where the voltage you are measuring is the same as the voltage you are using to power the meter, just connect these two wires together.
Hey man, I ordered a full kit from motley mods (super happy with it so far) and have been kinda using this video as a guide because his channel is super outdated. Think I could contact you to make sure I don't blow myself up? Lmfao
Damon Sinn the mod in the video is unregulated, but if you mean the same thing with no slide switches, you could wire the voltmeter negative to battery negative and the voltmeter positive to the switched positive from your fire switch.
Hi Dave good job bro can you tell me how you connect the volt display ? and how i can connect voltmeter to change the volt power ? if i have a series connection of 2 batteries ?
You need an additional component to change the voltage. Either an OKR cop or PWM chip commenced to a potentiometer.. Research thoroughly before you do anything, okay.
You have just given me everything I need to build a kit that I pieced together through Motley Mods. This is everything that I was trying to do. Thank you!
The look on your face at 18:14 says it all! Very good job... This would be something I would be interested in trying.
this is pretty cool making mods from scratch instead of buying one because you know whats wrong with it and everything if you have problems with the mod.
Awesome mod Dave. Impressive how you just took the initiative and made the first one out there like this. Props!

Nice project. Im on my project on custom acrylic box. Thanks for the Video and wiring diagram.
His face when it worked, pride.
Dave the Vaper looks good thanks it helped me out I just have questions about how far you went down for your magnets

Do people buy vapers a lot? We make them in Brazil out of reclaimed wood from the Amazon. Where do people buy them in the USA?
Dave I know you explained what you were going to do but any way you could link down below a diagram of the items and how you wired them up please.
There is a wiring diagram in the video description
Thanks for posting this vid man!
I would like one like this but in a abs case because you have more room and instead of sliding switches i want a Clicky buttons
Could I add LEDs to perhaps my IPV3 Li? I think it'd be pretty cool
I'm attempting a mosfet controlled mod as well. Quick questions for you though, 1) what does the 220 ohm resistor have to do with the LED? 2) does the mosfet generate a lot of heat and will I need a heat sink?
The perfect smile 😃 of success 18:15. NICE MAN NICE NICE NICE .

ever think of selling any would love a mod like that
Greate work man. mind posting a pic of schematic of the mod? im interested in trying this
Bboy Ralph Hey Ralph, I just drew this one: i.imgur.com/aQxiL04.jpg I tried to use different colors so the wires aren't too hard to follow.
The high current connections are 14g. The switch is a much higher gauge, maybe 24g. I have a wiring diagram in the description.
your back splash could use a side trim
hey dave, very good video thank you, im trying to build one box mod like this myself. Do you know if i can use a Sub Ohm Tank like the Kanger Subtank Mini on a Box like this? Best Regards Andy
nice mod man!!! vape on!!
My button had 5 pins and I've been looking for anything to help and I need to know who to wire it!!!??
Can you post the wiring diagram to another site... imgur is restricted in turkey..
Hey Dave first thanks for your videos I really enjoy them! secondly, do you have one place that you buy all of your components at or do you buy them from different places? Thanks!
Rob P This gay fuck doens't react to anyone because he doesn't have clue what he's doing! Aliexpress for parts cheap and reliable in transport.
Cool, well done mate!
What exactly is the mosfet for?
Sorry my english,
greets from Germany,
Henning
It's for shutting down the system if the batteries give to Many amps or volts I don't know for sure but it is a safety feature
nah it protects the switch from the full load going to the 510... when the 'gate' pin detects power it opens the circuit from source to drain... a mosfet can be configured differently to prevent reverse polarity damage as well
Also because the button isn't rated for the number of amps that is being produced
You should have the bits in CAD& be able to work it out PDQ
+Dave the Vaper is there a specific MOSFET that is used or any MOSFET will do?
Hi, I'm not Dave but search Amazon for "IRLB3034". You'll find them easily.
Or just Google "IRLB3034 substitution". All that matters are that the specs are in-range. They all work the same way.
Which switch did u use because I want to do something similar but with a green neon switch that lights up whenever it's being fired
lovin it, gonna build one myself, just need help with the wiring, i dont understand where everything connects, any way you could help?
ryan andrews there is a wiring diagram in the video description.
great job man
NEED HELP BUILDING A BOX MOD 8 BATTERIES. TWO 510'S. how to wire in fuses (1 after every battery)? need a special switch to alternate between the 510's or a regular one will do?
Shabaan Qaiser i really need help making a box mod
Hi! Is available a chip varivolt to change output voltage with a knob?
Love this build.. thanks..
What ohms you suggest for my diy box without mosfet? I got too much voltage drop with 0.39ohm build... I used 1mm solid copper wire and little bit 230v braided copper wire to mod. you will alwasy have volt drop in mech mods
How did you mount the volt meter?
If its epoxy, if so any tricks to help it not seep through?
Its a tight fit without epoxy, but obviously harder to remove with a little epixy on the edges after the voltmeter is pushed in there. I didnt have a problem with it seeping through.
can you help me? im doing exactly like your box mod but normal fire button with 2 screw and no voltmeter switch, only lock switch. can you help me to draw a diagram?
hello
The batteries are wired parallel right?
I followed your diagram completely and when I hit the voltmeter switch it doesn't stay on. It only makes it so that if its on then it's on only when you fire it. When its off It doesn't turn on at all. Is there something you added to your mod but not the diagram?
name of the MOSFET
Awesome video.
could you draw me the same diagram but without any of the voltmeter switch and safety switch.
How should I wire up the micro usb charging board :)
Thank you for answer
Where did you got the box
so if i wanted to just have the voltmeter on when firing i would just run a wire to the negative sled and positive wire to the positive 510 connection point? or would i run it off the MOSFET drain instead?
attach positive wire of the voltmeter to the output of your fire button and then the negative of the voltmeter to the negative side of your sled. this will show voltage with load.
+Hohmies Mcfly I'm an electrician.
+Masen Jensen lol I am to, then y are you speaking in positive and negative when testing for volts......
Dave the Vaper Really great job man, bravo! I was like, he is never gonna fit that in there, but look at you go man, righteous! I know i threw it out there before man, but if you ever want to trade one of those pieces of art boxes for my Sigelei 150, im down man! Peace :)

Nice job
Do you need the mosfet for the voltage meter?
dis u buy ur shirt from the philippines? it says "imo ang akong kasing kasing" in englis my heart is yours
+Dave the Vaper so u mean negative of the voltmeter to the D(drain) on MOSFET and positive to the positive on battery sled
+grantd272 That would work too for a switched voltmeter. The drain pin is pretty much the same thing as connecting the VM ground to 510 negative. It would show more voltage drop on the VM, but thats not what I diagramed here on this particular mod.
+Dave the Vaper yea, I'm in the process of making a series mod with the same layout as urs except a few changes to the diagram
can some one put up a diagram of how to wire up the LED button?
I am kind of new to this.
thanks!
Can I buy one off you bro?
Thanks Steve-O!!!!
What soldering iron do you use? Also wire size?
Just a cheap one from my local electronics store. The high current connections are 14g. The low current switch is a much higher gauge.
this is mechanical mod or have protection? sorry my bad english
it has on/off switch so it doesnt fire in ur pocket and the mosfet makes it fire when you push the button.
its definitely not mechanical.
how's the mod now?
Do ya sell wat u make
Epic! Make me that same exact mod but with dual 26650s!!.. $150
AND THAT IS ONLY HALF OF THE POWER BECAUSE YOU HAVE IT WIRED FOR MAX VOLT

what is the best and safe coil resistance for this mech. mode and what kind of coils u used ? thanks in advance :)
ِAhmed Salah learn your ohms law and get an ohmmeter. Do the math
Adventures of Austin ok thanks
A lot of the stuff is the misspelled please please ask something doesn't read write or look right it's because my translator kind of sucks on my iPad so let me know if there's anything that you can do and happy 4th of July
Anyone know if theres any 20700 battery sleds?
What's the purpose of voltmeter
It can indicate the capacity of the battery. The lower the volt the emptier the battery
NICE ONE DAVE" ONYA SHAGGA
SHOULD OF BENT UP THE TABS SO THEY AINT RUBBING THE BATTERY WRAP
what site did you get this specific switch from??
Myke McCloskey I am currently in the UK, so I got it from modmaker.co.uk. There are also similar LED switches all over eBay or amazon.
Greetings human. Can someone please show me a wiring diagram for a 12v 5 pin led switch? and for my resistor, a 220 ohm resistor 1/4 watts? sorry for my english, im an alien.
How to wire up a 3 wire voltmeter if u can help me please
ross horley 3-wire voltmeter just uses separate wires to power the voltmeter and to read a voltage of something. In a mod where the voltage you are measuring is the same as the voltage you are using to power the meter, just connect these two wires together.
Dave the Vaper thanks u for helping me I like your mod I am going to give it a go
Imo ang akong kasing-kasing😂 Bisaya
Hey man, I ordered a full kit from motley mods (super happy with it so far) and have been kinda using this video as a guide because his channel is super outdated. Think I could contact you to make sure I don't blow myself up? Lmfao
I like that box but wrap your battery's bro!! your tryin to blow up!
Where do you wire the volt meter to?
Damon Sinn I put a wiring diagram in the video description.
Dave the Vaper what if it's just an unregulated box mod
Damon Sinn the mod in the video is unregulated, but if you mean the same thing with no slide switches, you could wire the voltmeter negative to battery negative and the voltmeter positive to the switched positive from your fire switch.
been doing it not easy
you look like Freddie Mercury so I watched the entire video
Yesterday I got my box stolen and I can't afford a new one could you sell me one.
Hi Dave good job bro
can you tell me how you connect the volt display ? and how i can connect voltmeter to change the volt power ? if i have a series connection of 2 batteries ?
hussien mohamed Your voltmeter has jack shit to do with changing voltage genius!
You need an additional component to change the voltage. Either an OKR cop or PWM chip commenced to a potentiometer.. Research thoroughly before you do anything, okay.
Omg get on with it before i fall asleep.
