I believe it will be set in the future as well because looking at the reconstruction map it looks nothing like how modern Lumiose looks and there’s literally these weird domes in the plaza that have shapes (that resemble wild areas) that didn’t exist in the original.

Agreed, there are little things that aren't hitting me (Draco) right. For Example, there are street lights in the scene with water, that are way more modern looking.
