    I’ve been watching newborn essentials videos for weeks and you’re the first person to mention the infant Heimlich! It’s so important!

  • @gelastan518

    Thank you so much for being no frills, to the point, and practical! I love the idea of providing viewers with a list of mentioned essentials. Thank you for staying practical with video length as well! 🙂

    Finally, someone that goes to the point and suggests practical things. Thank you! I think I have most things ready for our baby, but it's nice to have a concise list. I will definitely have my husband watch your videos too!

    I loved that you added the baby heimlich. I might add learn infant CPR. It is quite different than regular CPR and gives you a bit of extra peace of mind.

    Sleepers and bodysuits are a life saver. I got loads of sleepers, bodysuits in different colours with the scratch mittens already sewn in! For the first few weeks and months it is so important they stay comfy, rather than uncomfortable with outfits that are really hard to change them in etc.

    Thank you for making the disclaimer about how expensive the Dock-a-Tot is and offering finding it second hand/a cheaper alternative. So many TH-camrs will swear by the Dock-a-Tot and say that it's totally worth that money!

  • @CaseyWidness
    @CaseyWidness 6 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    For the breastfeeding list, I'd recommend adding a water bottle (as you'll need to drink A LOT of it) and a breastfeeding supplement to aid in production. Some may give your baby gas so don't buy a 6 m supply without testing it first.

  • @Em-ss4lg

    I don't even have a baby nor am I pregnant (although we are considering) but I love when people get right into the content and not blab on and on and on. Great work!!

    I was skeptical to click on your video but I got to say, it is by far the most full list and so convenient with pdf! wow, thank you for doing all that extra work to save someone's time. I was so lost to where do I begin with all this newborn stuff but now I have clear ideas. Thank you for the work you did.

    We’ve used regular trash bags in the diaper genie and it’s been great. You’ll need to buy one diaper genie liner, but once that runs out, remove the liner and tuck the regular 13 gallon trash bag around and under the liner holder and snap back into place. Has worked really well for us in the first 6 weeks! Plus, it holds way more diapers. You’ll just need to make sure you don’t overstuff it!

    Andrew my dude. You are inspiring. I do not write youtube comments but I really appreciate your content. You are a great dad, a tech guru, and a great videographer wrapped in a burrito of coolness. Thanks for all the content. Your stories and content of structure are fantastic. We are about to have our first child after 5 years of IUI and IVF. You're videos really help keep my spirits up while we tried and helped me to feel very prepared as we have gone through our pregnancy. Thanks again. I will probably send you a video after January 9th after Baby Lawson arrives.

      Jen Corin That's a super good tip to remember and I forgot to mention it. Our insurance totally covered our breast pump as well as a few sessions with a lactation consultant. Saved a lot by doing that 👍

    I love your channel, I saw your smart nursery guide and did the same for my daughter with alexa and smart bulb. keep up the good work!
    Pro-tip for Dads: If you are exclusively breastfeeding, get a minifridge and bottle warmer and keep it by your bedside table for night time feeding, if mom pumps, and you want to give her a break at night and on the week ends. for the first few weeks they will sleep in the same room with you. I had an alexa next to the mini fridge as well, my daughter love music during changing and a smart bulb in a lamp, can also keep everything hands free when you wake in the middle of the night for changing.. Also I would go with a Bassinest!

    • @heatherhughes5683
      @heatherhughes5683 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I may put a minifridge by my bed! I plan to breastfeed, but I'm sure there will be nights when I just want to grab a bottle instead. Or, stock with some snacks and drinks to have while breastfeeding to stay hydrated!

    4. Lactation tea
    5. Fenugreek

    Why are you so cool?! Love this video - great overview! I also appreciate the vibe. The hip-hop loop in the background is a nice touch☺️
    It’s awesome to see an essentials video from a dad’s point of view, and I will definitely share with my husband! I also enjoy that you’re not particular to any brands specifically, and make a variety of cost friendly recommendations for new parents.
    Thanks! What a fun video to watch.

    We just had our second, and I was surprised to realize that I actually prefer the onesies with snaps instead of zippers. Snaps are definitely harder, but I feel like she stays warmer because I don’t have to unzip the whole thing to change her diaper. Maybe because it’s so cold here right now, but the snaps are worth it to keep the rest of her a little warmer.

  • @ifc1978
    @ifc1978 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Few things that I found very useful not mentioned here:
    - Baby Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit very useful for transition from swaddle. For some people works for others don't bu its worth to give it a try
    - Snuggle me for naps is great although I wouldn't use it for night sleep and not in your bed. You can place it on the crib or bassinet and it helps for baby to sleep longer naps
    - The First Years 4-in-1 Remote Control Bottle Warmer this kind of save my life. I place it on my bedside table and when the baby starts waking up I press the button and wait for the milk to be warm. It works with breast milk. Remote doesn't work that great but as I keep it in my bedside table I don't mind that much.
    - Yoyo + is a must if you are a traveller. The car is super easy to manage and it works with the carseat numa lite which is the lightest in the market.

    Breastfeeding also consider nipple shields. Definitely a life saver especially as a new mom and new baby it is a great aid! Love this list!

  • @Coolbabymama
    @Coolbabymama 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    For breastfeeding, definitely lanolin or coconut oil. It really helps prevent pain. A nipple shield for those who have trouble with a latch or SNS to avoid confusion with bottles in the first little while.
    For diapering, I’d add cornstarch. Really helps prevent diaper rashes.

    Awesome video. I’m due in August with my first baby and I’ve watched probably tons of videos about all sorts of topics just trying to get the most knowledge I can. I appreciate this checklist video but also the pdf because it’s something I can keep and go off of to make sure I have the essentials on my registry since I’ll be making that soon. Wanted to also say I liked a video from awhile ago where you were comparing prices of car seats/strollers/bassinets etc. that was also very helpful. You keep it short and sweet and that’s what I need! Also planning to get my fiancé to watch these, he’d much prefer them to the moms who talk for 30 minutes. (No hate on them, I’ll watch but he gets bored) 😂 so definitely keep it up. I’ll be looking out for more videos as I progress further in my pregnancy!

    The Boppy Newborn Lounger recently got recalled due to suffocation risk but I feel like ANYTHING is a suffocation risk with a lack of attention to baby, I am not even pregnant but someone was selling theirs (before the recall) for $5 so I grabbed it and my cat loves it for now but we will wash it and use it in the future!

    Hey! New to your channel and I'm pretty much binging all of your baby videos, 😅!
    One thing I would add to your breast feeding vid would be a Haaka or equivalent. Not so much for the "pumping" feature but mainly to catch the let down milk instead of it making a mess on baby and clothes.
    Also, I'm having the hardest time with picking a travel system 😭 so many options out there.

  • @kshaw2307
    @kshaw2307 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's great to see a Dad talking about these things, I feel like a lot of men don't feel like it's their area or that it should be left to the mum. Great to have this kind of example for other men.

  • @smartgirl909
    @smartgirl909 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    This list works if mom formula or breastfeeds from home. If mom’s going back to work there are a couple extra things a nursing/pumping mom might need: pump car converter, cold milk bag, pump travel bag, extra parts, breast milk cleaner soap, maybe freemies.
    Since this is more geared to dads, I wouldn’t worry about updating the list necessarily.

    Do you think a dockatot and boppy lounger are redundant for the newborn stage? Was gifted both and wondering if I should return one. Thanks for the great video!

    what are your thoughts about swaddling? any swaddle suggestions? our baby can be colicky but i am not sure if not using any swaddle is a better way to go about it.
