    LOVE the sound of Yamaha! They should have almost an identical sound. The difference in price reflects the beefiness of the parts used. The DXR is going to have a woofer inside that should have a larger magnet on the back. Also, the tweeter is going to be a little more expensive as well. The amp in the DXR is going to have just a little more top end power over the DBR. As far as Maximum Volume/Loudness, the DXR is tested to max out at 134 DB vs the DBR at 131 DB. Now in a real world situation. Going to be impossible to get either speakers to read out at 130+ DB, but the DXR is going to be a little louder before the amp maxes out and potentially clips. Either Speaker is going to handle the same size events essentially. Most people perform at events with 75 to 400 in attendance, and both speakers in a pair set up connected to a subwoofer can handle this size audience. Both are backed by Yamaha warranty. For the price difference, DBR is the better value, and going to be just fine for most users. Choose DXR if you NEED to play VERY LOUD a lot, and want that additional peace of mind using a model with higher end parts inside.

      Yes I love them Yamahas too. Have had original dxr10s & original dxr12s in the past too along with dxs15 subs. Sold the 12s to a friend so I could buy the DXR12mkii when they came out and sold the DXR10s because we had those for smaller shows and never needed all their power so now we use DBR10s instead. Much lighter of course and I feel they're a great value.
      Good info for anyone looking for tops and has Yamaha on their list of considerations.

    Thanks for the review. I was thinking of getting the DBR12s for live use with my Roland electronic kit. The DXR is definitely cleaner, more like a QSC, but I like the warmth and fuller sound of the DBR. DXR would be better for vocals and guitar but for drums I am leaning towards the DBR. What do you think? I too am a Yamaha fan, I use the MG16XU mixer, which has been great.

    • @JHGurganus
      @JHGurganus  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome! Honestly I've never had any electronic kit so I truly can't say on that I guess. I have read, just like you probably, many posts of people saying that they use the DBR or DXR series for drums with success though. I think you would be good with either one.
      In guitar and vocal testing, I have found the DXR and DBR to sound a lot like each other at reasonable levels unless you're really listening to pick out differences like in this video. I've had success gigging with the DBR and DXR series for guitar and vocals though. No complaints.
      For use on an electronic kit, for small gigs would the speaker be used for monitor and front of house or monitor only? I really don't know. Maybe a speaker like this would be like a guitar player uses for a monitor - small bars it could cover the bar but larger venues it serves as stage monitor and gets ran into FOH.

    • @edrums
      @edrums ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JHGurganus Thank you for responding so quickly. I use IEMs so the speakers are just for amplifying the drum sounds. I place the speakers right in front of the kit with a subwoofer so the sound comes from the kit. I use the group outs to my speakers so I can control how much, if any goes to FOH spending on the size of the room. I am looking for speakers with more head room and clarity than my current ones so I can get loud without distortion or being too muddy.

    • @JHGurganus

      @@edrums You're welcome and okay that makes sense now I have a little better understanding.
      I wish I had a little bit more experience there but unfortunately I don't. I used to have a couple of DXS15 subs when I thought we could make a full band work but it never worked out. All of my older DXR and DXS stuff was sold to friends who still use them. All of our work though is acoustic and vocals so we really don't focus on low end too much. But DBR12s may work out great. Like you, most of my gear is Yamaha stuff and I've had great luck with it all.

      @JHGurganus  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I haven't either but I'm very curious to hear how they sound because they were on my short list I just didn't pull the trigger yet. Looks like the DHR10 has the same smaller amplifier as the DBR10 but the DHR10 looks like it has a larger compression driver than the DBR10. Should sound better being wood and possibly a better compression driver but I'm not a pro at that.

    I used the DBR12 and sure did miss the upper midrange and could not eq it to sound good. The crossover is to high in the DBR series! Can't you hear how much more clarity comes from the DXR series. It's because the crossover is lower.

    • @JHGurganus
      @JHGurganus  ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I often try to listen for that but sometimes my ears don't pick it up as much as others. Of course that's why everyone needs to go listen for themselves to see what's best for them. I have found many times that for basic PA use a little EQ, if needed, goes a long way.
      I trust and love Yamaha but one of these days I need to get in something like an RCF 932 to see if I can hear a huge difference with the lower crossover that they have.
