I know it’s become a saturated market, but I honestly think every game has a chance to speak to a unique audience, and none of us benefit from their absence.
Quite honestly, I doubt that the death of metazoo will have any rammification on the TCG market. There was almost no interest in the gaming side of the card game and some collectors were suckered in by influencers to dump a lot of money into an obvious scam.

In all fairness a lot of people called this a scam years ago. They used NFTbro marketing and hype to push a TCG. A basic understanding of collectibles, marketing, and Ponzi schemes would have done the Metazoo fans some good. I was exceptionally cautious with Metazoo, and anytime I would mention their strategies I would get insulted by the fan base. I have little sympathy at this point.

MetaZoo needed to stay with Topps Licensing and make these monsters the "Garbage Pail Kids" style cards. I saw more people excited opening these Topps boxes than any other metazoo boxes. Whoever pick up the IP need to stick with Topps Licensing.
When metazoo launched Andy initially bought the domain name of the game, and planned to make their lives as hard as possible, said the game was the worst thing he has ever seen. Called it "hotdog water", and never had anything good to say. Then Mike came into a discord he was in and he instantly started social climbing mike and following him around on a leash. Crazy to see this come full circle.

One of the 50 OG Arch Casters here. I saw this coming way back. The 50 of us were promised the ability to buy up to 100 boxes of first edition base set. When the hype sent the game to the moon, we all got burned and were given no special access. After paying $50 a month for however long, on a hope. Pretty sure we only got to purchase two. Best part is, removing our access and going with the “big guys” was to PREVENT people like me from manipulating the market and ruining the game. Just makes me wonder, if Mike let us OG believers run like wild pirates with the product, we might not be in this situation. Oh well.
Yeah I really can't imagine someone would want to buy this as a standalone IP. What value does it have, they don't own cryptids. And its not a recognisable brand name. Shame for anyone who saw a future with it. There is a lot of space for small run non mainstream tcgs. Despite it being kinda obvious to me from the outside it'd never explode, with the proper management it could have thrived as a small scale game.

A buddy of mine owns a TCG shop and he let me know he had Metazoo coming and asked me if i wanted a box. This was back when Nightfall was out. He told me he was getting his boxes for 100 dollars a box if he bought multiple cases. I got mine for 125 shipping included. But every where else i saw them at 300 plus a box and i just knew from there the only purpose of this product was to pump and dump it. Luckily i only wasted 125 dollars on a box.

Depends on how badly you need the money. If you don't, then hold onto them rather than selling into the flood that'll be coming now. You can always get bottom dollar later if there's no recovery.

I'm not into Metazoo, but the Metazoo situation/drama is fascinating. Usually when a TCG dies it is kinda unceremonious, boring, and business as usual. However, I don't get Metazoo and its growth and fall and because of that, it is interesting even thou I'm just an outsider. Metazoo is an oddity like a cryptid! However, I do feel sorry about its community. No matter how much shit this game has gotten and its reputation, the passion of the community was there. I imagine if better people were at control and less savory people like Rudy didn't get involved as much, this could have been a fantastic game instead of being a wasted opportunity. They hit gold but chose to shit on it instead. That's how I see this situation.

Basically all that stuff needs to be charged back through people’s banks. Apparently artists were NOT paid for the art they did in Legacy, which means it likely never even hit the printers yet.
I did like that they did a collab with hello kitty Just because it was so weird and I loved the whole (sweet/dark) idea, but my gf bought a box ot this for preorder, and paid a premium for it. The cards where less than mediocre, and still to date doesn't have a full art holo card. Less than respectful buisness ideals, and honestly glad to see it go, the cards I have will now gain value as long as I keep them for a long period. I'm glad I had fun with it when I did, but I hope it dont come back.

I genuinely dont mean this to be rude but if something is being called a pump and dump for three years straight and seems like an obvious pump and dump hoping to get the people spending their lockdown subsidisations on speculator collectible investments hoping they are getting in on the ground floor of the next base set pokemon style thing and it reaches the point they were pushing actual nfts is it really still "doomsaying" to say something with the same veracity as water is wet? this was never anything more than a "you dont want to miss out, we are just getting started..." fomo hustle and this rug pull was the inevitable end state as the grifter skips town leaving someone else to hold the bag. People were warning people about this for years. It wasn't haters. It wasn't people doomsaying. It was warning people to not build their castle on a bed of sand.
Yeah maybe doomsayer isnt the right term I was looking for in the moment. I never got into metazoo for any kind of investment or selling purposes, but those that did are certainly going through a much different experience than someone like me right now.
I've never seen anyone actually play Metazoo, when it comes down to a card game surviving, there needs to be players, and a lot of them, they can't run on just "collectability."
The art was amateurish and not dark. When it first came out I thought it looked super cheap and on the cutesy side. Here to say damn they lasted longer than it should have. Sanrio’s style was too polished for it
there’s quite a few gorey/dark cards by one artist but yes they can definitely get overshadowed by the overwhelming amount of pokemon knockoff cards that exist. Just shows how conflicted they werecfrom the get go on art direction

Yes those were exactly my thoughts but in the moment couldnt remember to bring this up. A lot of people very close to MZ were saying to expect a huge announcement like a buyout, and I think they backed out and Mike just had a breakdown.
The game actually looked worse than the art. Not surprised. Only so many CCG’s can exist in this economy or any other. They didn’t have a chance. Sorry for anyone heavily invested in the product. Sold my sealed product for 5-6x the value when it started slightly dip.

I genuinely dont mean this to be rude but if something is being called a pump and dump for three years straight and seems like an obvious pump and dump hoping to get the people spending their lockdown subsidisations on speculator collectible investments hoping they are getting in on the ground floor of the next base set pokemon style thing and it reaches the point they were pushing actual nfts is it really still "doomsaying" to say something with the same veracity as water is wet? this was never anything more than a "you dont want to miss out, we are just getting started..." fomo hustle and this rug pull was the inevitable end state as the grifter skips town leaving someone else to hold the bag. People were warning people about this for years. It wasn't haters. It wasn't people doomsaying. It was warning people to not build their castle on a bed of sand.
Yeah maybe doomsayer isnt the right term I was looking for in the moment. I never got into metazoo for any kind of investment or selling purposes, but those that did are certainly going through a much different experience than someone like me right now.

I've never seen anyone actually play Metazoo, when it comes down to a card game surviving, there needs to be players, and a lot of them, they can't run on just "collectability."

The art was amateurish and not dark. When it first came out I thought it looked super cheap and on the cutesy side. Here to say damn they lasted longer than it should have. Sanrio’s style was too polished for it
there’s quite a few gorey/dark cards by one artist but yes they can definitely get overshadowed by the overwhelming amount of pokemon knockoff cards that exist. Just shows how conflicted they werecfrom the get go on art direction

Yes those were exactly my thoughts but in the moment couldnt remember to bring this up. A lot of people very close to MZ were saying to expect a huge announcement like a buyout, and I think they backed out and Mike just had a breakdown.

The game actually looked worse than the art. Not surprised. Only so many CCG’s can exist in this economy or any other. They didn’t have a chance. Sorry for anyone heavily invested in the product. Sold my sealed product for 5-6x the value when it started slightly dip.
