- Breaking my 6 month silence on MetaZoo and offering a ton of constructive criticism on the issues I myself and many others are experiencing right now with the company. Things I address: Sanrio Hello Kitty Kuromi's Cryptid Carnival TCGPlayer price debacle, Seance Mapping Issue, no TH-cam / PR representative presence, Native Streamer Kit delay, 7 artists leave company, Overpromise & Underdeliver, Competitive scene in shambles (Caster's Cup, canceling events, etc), Legacy & War delay and MUCH more! Is MetaZoo Dead? Is there a future for MetaZoo? Let's discuss.

I want to address something that I already knew about when making the video. People that paid the full $300 were refunded $150 for each one they bought by TCGPlayer, but that wasn't important to the point I was talking about when it comes to the secondary market being destroyed for partner stores and streamers that will now be unable to sell their stock of single booster boxes, thus due to crash the market severely.
One other thing I missed in addressing in the video. I think it’s plausible that there was a contract signed between MetaZoo and TCGPlayer/eBay for this exclusive collector set agreement. I think in the future MetaZoo needs to define something like “within this set period of time you can’t lower the MSRP of this without our explicit permission.” Otherwise they will run into situations like this with Kuromi.
You’ve shown this company more respect than you will ever receive back. MetaZoo has been mismanaged from pretty much day 1. It’s hard to pay out prizes when you can’t meet payroll. My advice, there are other CCGs out there that either deserve more recognition, or are just flat out being managed probably. MetaZoo had a chance and based on this video has gotten MANY chances to correct issues and improve and they continue to just disrespect its customers. We all work hard and this hobby isn’t cheap, I refuse to reward bad behavior.
I feel like you summed up how 95% of metazoo collectors feel with the company. I got in the exact same time as you when ufo dropped. My first big release was seance and by the time my box arrived I had heard about mapping and it ruined the entire experience for me. I did buy Native too, but like you it's sitting unopened for some day when I'm bored.
They really need to step back from trying to release 80 different products which feels like weekly and focus on the core sets. It's impossible to collect everything and keep up with obscure crossover collabs. I think they should make a deal with a massive streamer. Sadly if they're canceling events and not paying winners then you gotta wonder how the finances are at metazoo hq.
The last thing that kinda kills metazoo is so many people buy into it as investments. Slapping 1st edition on the products was the smartest move metazoo made. With all the delays and horrible PR i don't see how much longer this TCG will exist. How much longer can people say this next set is really the make it or break set? I hope they correct course, but I wouldn't hold my breathe.
Mike is metazoo's biggest problem and that will obviously never change so it's a matter of how long he can drag the collectors along for
Meh Mike has his issues, mostly hes a PR nightmare and can’t take criticism but it’s Andy behind most of these product and allocation blunders

I don’t think this video will be taken positively at MZ headquarters if they decide to try watching it, but I can’t put on a pretend smile and open Metazoo stuff without saying how I really feel right now. I want Metazoo to succeed, but it’s not looking too hot with the current trajectory unless drastic changes are made.

in my position i just felt to have bring stuff up back then, to make them see and recognize. they mistook it for bashing.
was one of the 'most' influential peops in the europe mz region back then. not that there were many. but didnt feel good.
I agree with all the points you made about metazoo in this video! And yeah that roadmap went completely off course. Someone else's video on the streamer kit suggested why not just ship them without the missing piece and just replace it with something else like a special promo. I also agree that they need to be more transparent with problems which will help in the long run.
Like I said, we need more answers on the streamer kit. If it isn’t happening just refund everyone and appologize and I think people would be accepting of that outcome. Can’t keep stringing us along with no answers as to where this thing is that was due out 8 months ago.
The delay of products combin with the cancel of caster cup and non payment to some other event kind of suggest that they are having huge cash flow issuem
I bought CN1 when it came out but haven’t really cared about buying since. A lot of the reason is I’ve paid very close attention to the tcg community and every meta zoo release has had an issue since wilderness. I would pick the occasional $40 wilderness or ufo box to let my old lady open. $1 packs you really can’t go to wrong. But I don’t know if it’s a glimmer of hope but after the price drop of the 2 box collectors packs I went and bought 3 kits. I think that’s is fair price for Christmas presents. Then I went and bought 6 nightfall boxes then I went and bought a ton of singles. To be a person that isn’t invested in metazoo and coming into the community now is actually pretty sweet.
Oh boy, looking forward to hearing a breakdown of this! I've only loosely followed MetaZoo through you, so I really am interested in why that content has gone cold.
This video sums everything up perfectly. Great Job! I just don't understand how they don't see all of this. It seems like an extremely easy fix to turn all of this around. Communication. That is all. The TH-cam thing has always blown my mind. There should be weekly video updates, interviews, behind the scenes, etc.... It's 2024. The internet is only the most powerful tool available! Use it! Another thing that nobody talks about is the poorly designed website. The website doesn't offer any insight to what the game is, what the characters are, what products have been released, what products are coming out, etc. It is hard to get a feel for what MetaZoo is by looking at the website. They have so much art and content to build an extremely strong content filled website...yet they don't. Why?
Feel like this will all be looked back on as how exactly not to run a tcg, they struck gold just releasing at the right time and fummbled almost every single opportunity after. Hello Kitty collab is like laughably dumb, would love to see the venn diagram of cryptid enthusiasts, tcg players, and hello kitty collectors
I'll be honest: I had the feeling that Metazoo was going too big too soon from the beginning. The Sanryo deal fits with that impression, but even their original schedule felt too packed for their own good. I'm not entirely surprised they weren't able to stick to it.
I hope they can learn from their mistakes (let alone see and acknowledge them properly) but as an external viewer it doesn't look good.
If there's one market already oversaturated with huge risks of crashing and burning it's the TCG market (the videogames parallel is on point).
Hopefully they'll be able to get back on track, but the signs are not promising.
I wonder what MetaZoo’s reaction to the price cut is, I think it was TCG Players decision to cut the price and not MetaZoo’s….I did preorder other boxes and paid msrp but had amazing hits but I agree it’s like wtf if I knew this was going to be $150 I wouldn’t have preordered. It’s a moment in time and the crash of this set is coming, by New Years booster boxes would be lucky to sell for $60. MetaZoo just put up another preorder ahahaha where’s our streamer kits ??? And Christmas set ? Lol not yet…another problem is Kuromis Cryptid Carnival is a Halloween set just before Christmas. If this was a Christmas set it would sell a lot better as a present. I’m loving buying the dip but MetaZoo is in huge trouble, hopefully Sanrio grabs the steering wheel soon. Or maybe if maybe if Mike comes flying back like a super hero and saves the day.
TCG wouldnt care. They already paid for them. TCG wants to stay in business as much as every business.
MZ needs to made it mandatory in future collab contracts that the partner can’t severely cut the MSRP without their explicit permission.
As far as the art goes. The style is easily copied or imitated. I wouldn't worry about that.
I agree with everything in this video. They need to do better as a company. It is very frustrating and irresponsible to keep consumers/collectors and players in the dark. Lots of people really love Metazoo and we want to keep it that way, but Metazoo can't keep their word on anything. It's like they are digging themselves a hole they won't ever get out of. People are loosing confidence in this trading card game.

Metazoo is garbage, the art and design of the cards is just objectively trash. How the got a Sanrio deal let alone a following in the first place I will never understand
I’d they actually followed this original roadmap this year would have been crazy for metazoo. The hype for what was supposed to come was high. They dropped the ball so hard. Feels like they are trying to lean on the die hard fans so much to keep pumping stuff out rather than grow and bring new people in.
Providing no apologies, no attempts to make things right, and going as far as to time out or potentially ban members of the community that were discussing the issue of booster boxes that could be mapped (likely in order to protect the sales of the product) is extremely alarming. I've never collected for MZ but I do have interest in many other small TCGs, so I tend to try and keep track of how other games are doing and to see if at some point it sparks my interest. But honestly after watching this video I think even if MZ released a product that looked interesting to me that I would pass. This kind of behavior from the company puts them on a never buy list for me.

I agree though, even Sanrio has sub collectors, some people only focus on Hello Kitty, or Kuromi, or My Melody, etc, and within that, there's too much Sanrio merch to collect to even consider cards that are hard to display (sure, possible in a frame, but hardcore collectors hardly have wall space left). I'd love to collect some cards if prices go down or a reprint happens, but it surely muddies the soul of Metazoo- its own artwork and card game rules that just got washed away with generic Sanrio characters (let's face it, I've seen Hello Kitty sitting in the same position for 30 years, nothing special about that set)....
Honestly they have spread themselves to thin!! I feel the exact same way about loosing faith in metazoo I was so excited getting into it but since not receiving the streamer kits I refuse to spend any more money on products! I hope they can pull it back but I am extremely doubtful. It’s sad that they act like they really listen to fans and interact but when something goes wrong we get radio silence! Absolute shambles! Something weird happened to me that made me leave Metazoo. I never talked about this openly but my gut saved me.
I was seeing negative comments about Metazoo that weren't deleted under Gary Pokemons page. They were talking about how Metazoo is selling new cards under a private eBay page. And that there were more sample cards than meets the eye. Rumors of the expensive cards being printed behind the scene to be sold on that account too.
I commented saying i was gathering proof and to dm me evidence. The same night Mike Waddell reached out to me just to talk... i felt like i was being bribed to be silent. No way it was a coincidence. A few years later, this happened.
That’s pretty wild, you should still release whatever info you gathered or the convo between you and mike.

You would be surprised! I'm a sanrio collector and a lot of us collect cards, sanrio even sells these wafers that have collectible cards in them that are pretty saught after. I bought the kuromi box to hunt for the My Melody cards but yea I wouldn't say I'm very interested in the franchise itself. I've always known about MetaZoo, the art style wasn't really for me but opening MZ for the first time was a good experience and I would buy more sets in the future if they made other sets that appeal to girls like me.
Great video brother, I think everyone is panicking over the 50% off on the collectors bundle. I believe it was just a limited time holiday sale, I don’t think it was an intentional Dump. Now other sellers are trying to compete with those prices taking a loss. I still have faith in metazoo, truth is it’s up to us content creators/Fans/players/ and investors to keep it alive and Going for the future. I totally agree with your point of view though. Keep up the great work.
Great video, very informative and well explained. As a casual fan, basically Chrome collector, I felt so excited by Chrome only to be disappointed at how hard it was to purchase. The other frustration was how difficult it was to find info about restocking or additional sets coming out. I heard about a second series of topps chrome coming out in September which unfortunately never happened.
I wanted some metazoo but the price point is too high and it's hard to find in the UK
Mike and Andy would never do this. Seems like either Pride or Ego gets in the way.
I do like the idea of the product but I hate they haven't been able to address any chronic issues.

I feel pretty much the opposite, at least with the secondary-market culture.. Incredibly happy and surprised the overpriced boxes got cut, definitely didn't expect a massive 50%..
Like PoKeMoNs $300 orica set of original cards, there was no way I was gonna touch a box for $300.. nonsense to me..
Now I find myself having to 'not' click the buy button on a Kuromi box.. lol!.. and I never really cared for the Sanrio.. Almost restores my faith a little bit that this game can actually spread into the hands of 'new' people.. then truly 'new' players can actually join in..
Idk.. I kinda think it'd be best to lower prices all around making it the most affordable TCG to get into.. all shops, all around.. Then the only people that would care would be those Hip to only high value TCGs, i/e overly obsessing over capitalizing.. 📈capitalizing off of the fanbase... 🤑 Seems the secondary market needs to die a bit right neow..📉 So.. lets just let it..

I agree pretty solidly with the product delay concerns and complaints.. I definitely want my Streamer Kits.. lol, I swore I'd stream almost daily once I got em.. 😬 ..dang... ..
I really hope they select some dedicated Artists and really give us something to fall in love with again.. They've definitely got a challenge there with fan favorites leaving.. and I do agree with MetaZoo needing more communication with the Fanbase..💯 Would/Could of prevented a ton of Drama cutting it off at the head with an initial announcement.. whether it be about Seance or any product delays etc. etc.. (and at Dark Tower they should have just straight up Cancelled Casters-Cup instead of 'Postponing".. Knew that one was gonna come back on em.. 😮💨)

I agree the MSRP needs to come down on all past and future booster boxes to make it more accessible and easier for partner stores to sell. People saving money is always a good thing, but the way this was handled means any partner stores or streamers that believed in MZ and this Kuromi crossover are now screwed and won’t be sble to move their product unless they come up with creative alternatives or just sell at a loss. I haven’t bought metazoo really since cn1. This price drop made me buy 3 bundles and go back and buy every box since cn1. I’m not obviously a metazoo fan boy. But really at all these prices it’s worth it to learn the game even if it’s in 5-10 years when I crack the boxes. I didn’t make a ton of money on metazoo but I also didn’t lose a ton of money. So i don’t have bad feelings towards metazoo. Who doesn’t like cheap packs. Ripping anything for $1-2 is a good time.

Topps chrome man 🥲....I went deep on Hobby boxes thinking they had a premium like my sports hobby boxes....man that really sucked watching Target blaster box openings while I had piles of junk boxes (one serialized hoop snake /99)....like wtf are we doing here Metazoo, can't you get one damn thing right. Just felt like another Metazoo peeble in my shoe until I eventually threw em' on a wire to decay in the city skies. Great vid!

Also to the point that they werent adressing, even surpressing issues. Back then when Topps 1 got recognized for being weightable they were even toying on that. Much fun for everyone buying a box after that online from someone who had the chance to find all the low weighz boxes.

The fact some of the most pricey promos in the game are Rudy promos is super embarassing. You had Gary King Pokemon saying his prerelease cards are worth a Tesla in a video a while back too. Turns out he was literally given those and on the companies pay roll. Awful optics.

MetaZoo is one of those tcgs I'd love to get into but those red borders completely ruin the cards IMO. It makes them absolutely horrible to look at.

It's revenue, man. MZ doesn't have the money. If they did, they'd still be full steam ahead with irrelevant and uninteresting collabs and product bombardment. Caster cup with 1mil in prizes? Yeah right. They can't even pay prizes they currently owe.
Yeah at the time of making this they hadn’t missed the mark yet on their promise paying Dark Tower players by the end of the year. I plan on providing an update on the current situation with Metazoo soon. It’s not looking good.
@@PeteDorrTCG Sorry man. I'm not a MZ hater. I love the IP, but the never ending series of debacles and dishonesty can't be ignored any longer. I was very defensive of MZ early in the year and I used your guide video on collecting MZ to help new recruits get their bearings in early 2023... but what a shift show this has become. Ultimately, I just think it comes down to money. MZ doesn't have the money it had. The gross overprinting of Wilderness & UFO and subsequent devaluation spooked both collectors and investors. Seance's issues as you discussed and the significant decline in customer base with Native's release left MZ short on cash. Hence the suspension of the various roadmap items for 2023 and the failure to deliver streamer kits, pay tournament winners, etc. It's possible MZ gets a private cash injection, but if I were Mike I'd be leery of making that move. Thanks for your coverage and I'm glad I found you. I like your coverage of things. :D

I know next to nothing about Metazoo, so for all I know you might be right, but the number of people I’ve seen over the last 3 years jump in random comment sections to hype up products with the hopes it’ll reward their initial investment in said product has made me wary of every “To The Moon” prognostication.
