I have ejoyed David's work for many years. I happened to come the ore famous original version and liked it, then noticed David's version and had to here it. Many that guy can really sing, much more expressive and powerful version.
He's been the soundtrack of my pirate crew in Pathfinder RPG before and will ever be. He embodies the shanty and will never be surpassed by anyone. Monumental voice, presence. Absolutely commanding.

I am Romanian. So I am like: darn, I haven't figured out by myself that.. yessss, that's right! This is the basic rythm of music. And our church music keeps the byzantin sounding without the rythm.
It sounds Turkish because they kept it and under Latin and Turkish influence, OF COURSE our gypsies' music sounds like that, cause after being freed of slavery (my country was the first to do so!) they earned a living by singing in local pubs... This rythm is in their blood. Oldest in world and unaltered 😮 Why didn't I see it?!?!
