Why is it so hard to find info on polycythemia. I told my family about me having it and the next week I was getting calls from family crying thinking I had pv cancer.

You can high numbers due to ill health which is secondary p. V, you need bone biopsy to see if it's primary p. V which means your bonemarrow is the issue which is classed as blood cancer, you should read blood wise sites or mpn if you think it's primary p. V good luck

@Wolfy you need bnone marrow biopsy if you don t have underlining causes for high numbers yes blood let's is treatment also medication usaul if hc over 45,you get blood let, I have no iron so they try to avoid let's for me I'm on h. U and interferon peg although struggled with numbers last 6yrs my symtoms seems to be worstening

@Wolfy it's classed as bloodcancer, I don't see as such rather disfunction AL bonemarrow as there's people who have cancer growths with little life left so in some sense fortunate, but unfortunate because can be dibilating also medicine can effect some,

I had Polycythemia/cancer and my g/dl's was 62 g/dl's instead of 16 and I had to get a pint of blood (Phlebotomy) drained out of me a lot. So I started taking oxalate foods until my hemoglobin was back down to normal at 16 g/dl's Strawberries are good oxalated, but so is rhubarb, but I thought rhubarb was too much Oxalate, so I stuck with strawberries. I am aware that too much oxalic can also be harmful.

The numbers don't add up, I assume some patients have more than one mutation?
