- Today I'm breaking down everything you need to know about the best faction in Rome: Total War, from economy and starting position, to tactics, exploits, and finally a full breakdown of the army you can field as Egypt. After watching this video, you will never see Egypt the same way and I hope it convinces you that Egypt is the best faction in Rome: Total War.

I also wanted to give credit to Lugotorix on TH-cam for inspiration on the format of this video. All the content of the video is my own, but the format is very similar to Lugotorix’s faction guides. He hasn’t posted in a while, but I’m a huge fan, check him out:

Gotta make more of these faction guides. So interesting and I'm learning so much
I absolutely will! Thanks for the support :)
While Romans have more overall public order buildings (from games and races and whatnot) I’m fairly sure if you build temples of Set and max out the secret police/executions squares Egypt has the max potential bonuses to Law reducing corruption more than any other faction which adds up when doing a world conquest.
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Egypt does benefit from mostly being protected in the west by deserts, quite unusual ( not impossible ) to see Numidia/Carthage come late in the game from that direction.
Another advantage, taking all those coastal settlements and building massive naval trade network in the eastern Med.
Also basically your only rival Seleucids will find themselves in multiple wars whereas you'll likely only be fighting them most if not the whole campaign.
Those definitely help Egypt a lot. Egypt probably has 90% of the possible advantages a faction can have in RTW
Egypt is my next faction I will play as, I want the archers that I could not get from Carthage which was super fun to play as since you get poeni and sacred infantry, but here I find the cavalry and infantry super weak considering AI gets plus eight stat bonus and chariots can’t be used in siege and have only defence 1.
Egypt is a totally different play-style, I agree. You can slaughter in the open field, but you’re almost always better off starving out any city you attack. It is sometimes a bit boring to do that, but playing as Egypt and rolling up on the Italian peninsula with a bunch of chariots and phalanxes is one of the most fun experiences in RTW, especially post-Marian reforms. The chariots (especially general chariots) are amazing fun in open field battles and not at all flimsy. Definitely try it out!
Will you do other in-depth guides for other factions?
Definitely, they’re in the works 🙏🏻 I actually put a lot of research into them so hopefully I can do about one non-series video per week 👍🏻
Oh wow you said it most powerful in the game. Agreed. Rome is close but the other factions close make egypt better
Like clearly the developers put the most effort into the Roman campaigns as far as content on release, so that is clearly the intended way of playing the game, but if you use Egypt to the limit of its ability it is so so powerful.
RIP Ramsey Bolton, you would have loved Total War diplomacy cheese
GoT would have been so much more interesting 🤔
Those absurd chariot advantages in auto-resolve and that tribute exploit against Seleucids kinda spoils the challenge of playing as Egyptians. Ah well, it was fun while it lasted.
Agreed! You just have to choose not to use those particular tricks. I honestly don’t auto resolve battles anyways so it’s not a big deal
Now i wanna play rome lol
Hahaha Rome is so good in 2023, it never ages poorly. It’s always fun and usually surprises me.
The most powerful faction in the game BY FAR is the Greek Cities for simply spamming armored hoplites and having many of the best regions, unlike Egypt that only has a few of the best regions, much worse expansion possibilities, and NOTHING to compare with the opportunity cost and sheer power of armored hoplites.
With Greek Cities you can easily conquer the Scipii, Brutii and Rome by turn 30 if not 25, then just keep rolling over everything since armored hoplites are like better legionaries (manual combat) on one tier lower and no need for Marian Reforms.
Definitely fair. Also depends on your play style. A casual (low level of micromanaging, high reliance on autoresolve, fast play style) player will probably be more successful, under less pressure from neighbors, and grow faster as Egypt, but I absolutely would not disagree with your assessment of the Greek cities as incredible and arguably the best faction, especially for an experienced and patient player.
I saw 2023 strats and I thought it was going to be the one where they give you money.
That will probably be in the next video guide haha, not really necessary with Egypt. Don’t want to overcomplicate it too much 👍🏻
playing egypt atm, romans are a bit annoying, they have so many troops
Roman’s ability to cheat and spawn entire armies is so annoying
I still think that the brutii are better, thanks to the fact that i thinl roman infantry is better than phalanxes
That’s totally fair. Roman factions are awesome, especially their armies.
Played with every factions. Egypts are easy on veryhard. Numidians sucks, germans are funny. No exploits or cheats used
I fear Numidia VH/VH in my sweatiest nightmares
God I hated this faction so much.
It’s definitely controversial. Any requests for the next faction I do?
@@tdsniper215 maybe Seleucids or Parthia would make the most sense for the next one, since their biggest challenge is what to do about the yellow menace to the south? 😅
(And to be clear, my hate was for this faction when I played against it many years ago, not for your guide.)
@@Geffalrus1984 hahaha that’s what I figured. Many guides to come in the next few weeks 🫡 Seleucids and Parthia would be fun ones
