    How to beat any faction:
    1. Pick a Roman faction.
    2. Get Marian reforms.
    3. Say to your enemies, "omae wa mou shinderu".

    I once did it with building like 20 assasins and then assasinating every family member encountered, this makes dealing with the Egypt army spam easier, however the AI cheats and just creates more family members out of nowhere so you can't take them out fully like this. Then I turned my assasins attention to towns and sabotaged every single building that provides happiness or public order, and put multiple spies in targeted towns to provide even more unrest. The Egyptians lost about 50% settlements to rebellions, it was quite glorious :D

      @techwiz81 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This is how I used to win in Shogun, I’d focus on building up my settlements until I could train geishas and just assassinate all the other faction leaders until there were only rebels left

    • @maxdecphoenix
      @maxdecphoenix 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      i had no idea spies lowered public order... i read this and was like 'wtf is he on about'... loaded up the game, loaded a campaign and read the statistics about spies.. then i sent in a bunch of spies into an enemy settlement and each one lowered it 10%, up to like 50%. i couldn't believe i've never paid attention to this before. What shame i have brought on my house!

    • @maxdecphoenix
      @maxdecphoenix 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      aaaand RIP. tried to experiment with it in an old Julii campaign, and i couldn't get it to trigger riots against Gaul (who only have two settlements left) nor spain, nor britainnia. i would target deep settlements with no gov and no garrison, trying to trigger rioting, my mobs of spies would drop order to 45, 55,60, 70. Hit end turn, magically those settlements would be up to 90%+ the next turn. no explanation. A.I. just miracling up 50%+ Public Order.
      All i can think is maybe it's dumping taxes down to nothing.

    • @brodosam3195
      @brodosam3195 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@maxdecphoenix Hmm, don't know what would cause it to go up so rapidly, it's quite possible that the AI cheats to get higher public order for free, especially on higher difficulties. Spies can only cause a maximum of 50% unrest (that is 1 maximum level spy that has 10 "eye" skills, or sevelar lesser ones) so it isn't very effective always. I found the best use of spies is against large settlements with a big number of people, combined with assasins sabotaging every single building that gives public order or happiness. That way you can drop the town down to 0% public order even, which would help significantly in trying to force it to rebel. I think you would have an easier time trying to rebel an Egyptian large town for example, which has several public order buildings and a lot of people, rather than a barbarian town.

    • @maxdecphoenix
      @maxdecphoenix 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@brodosam3195 I did some experiments in game, and yes, the A.I. does alter taxes to combat the spies. You can gauge the tax rate by looking at the settlement's income and population growth. in one instance i moved a bunch of spies into a Spanish settlement which dropped the P.O. to around 60%. I noted that the income was around $267 and the growth rate was 1%. I ended turn, and checked again; the P.O. was back up to 80%, but the settlement income had dropped to $87 ($-180) and Pop. Growth increased to 1.5%, indicating that the A.I. had in fact dropped the taxes to avoid riots.
      I think it's sound tactics to use them even on smaller factions/smaller settlements. Having to perpetually combat -50% P.O. in multiple or all settlements opens a whole other front in the war. Causing economic strain by forcing the enemy to lower taxes considerably and/or pay to create/maintain garrison units instead of field units; while losing money. Basically turning a settlement that's supposed to be an asset into a liability. The other thing is that because taxes are low, populations will rise more rapidly than the A.I. can contend with while they're being starved of cash to build/rebuild structures to combat P.O./squalor which will induce rioting.
      When paired with blockading ports, keeping a unit or two on the roads to interrupt overland trade, and a largish army in a region to cause devestation can rapidly cripple a settlement. I noticed that if land rebels are standing near a port they will also blockade the port, and you can do that too. So you can blockade ports from sea and/or land.

    I find blockading ports to be somewhat useless on higher difficulties, as the game cheats other factions money. I use naval superiority because the opponent then cannot as quickly move armies around or prevent you from shipping in more troops by sea. This is one of the reasons why Rome is so powerful late game: due to their highways, they are more mobile than any other faction.

  • @luisvieiracruz9676

    Nice video, Lugotorix! I just want to add a few more tips :)
    As you said, you must be prepared to face Egypt and I totally agree with you. That is the reason I build a massive army and a good naval force. That way I can destroy their boats and block the ports (all of them at the same time). That will do a big damage to their economy and that is the way I like to suffocate Egypt. Then I use my army in the north (Tarsus, Antioch...) to lure their full stack armies. Once they are moving, I attack from the south, specifically Memphis to reduce the public order in the other cities. This way they will implode and you can take nice advantage.
    Last tip: Carry ate least 1/2 catapults in your armies so you can take unprotected cities quicker.
    I know it can be difficult to defeat them, but with the right strategy and some patience they will fall on your feet, soldier!

    • @couchpotatoe91
      @couchpotatoe91 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Your armies will be slower then though which can be a pain and really negate the extra turn you safe from not having to towers and rams.
      It's really good to pick up mercenary war elephants though (they're quite rare). They count as cavalry and move as fast as horses on the campaign map and can break down city walls as long as they're not made of stone.

    Lugotorix, the best way to defeat egypt is to take one of their cities and make sure you have at least 12 decent units and watch the entire military of Egypt rush to siege that one city and defeat them on the walls or in the city itself. Egypt is quite a weak faction for assulting a settlement but strong when defending. Every faction except for Parthia, Scythia and Armenia should beat Egypt in most siege situations

    I pretty much always go for Alexandria and Memphis first to cut them off from the two massive production centers rather than grinding through the Middle East and letting them rally for a last stand in those massive cities. It also gives you high population cities to crank out armies from if the war goes on. If you can't blitz Egypt proper, you're in trouble.

    I remember with my first long campaign with the Julii I had Gaius Julius with his elite imperial army literally ransack all the way from Tarsus down to Memphis. I'd take a settlement and destroy all their buildings and move on to the next. By the time I had captured the Pyramids Egypt was basically crippled and I had enough time to regroup and reconquer. Was pretty epic shit.

      My first war against Egypt was in Siwa with the Brutii, a very long and funny campaign, I land with my full army of veterans (silver and golden chevron) lead by the family head and my best general when Egypt send half army with slingers, nubians and two chariot units with no general. Balance was in my favor 5 to 1, because was tired after hours of play just autoresolve and guest what?
      Decesive Defeat. I lost all my army who take me 20 years to built. Legions, equites, velites, all. I was so angry and sad that leave the game alone for months.

    A great strategy to use alongside this one in taking the settlements is to positions those armies and navies near Alexandria, Sidon, Jerusalem with catapults/ballistas, so that you can potentially take multiple, lightly-defended settlements within one turn. That way, you can already be moving on to attacking a second round of settlements by the same turn as you would otherwise just have completed your siege equipment.

    Can't forget the time, when I figured out like 15 years ago, how to beat them, with exactly the same tactic you described in this video :D I was playing with the Brutii, had a decent empire by the time, but Egypt already conquered the entire area, which belonged to Numidia, Seleucid, Parthia, Armenia, Pontus etc, and they started to swarm over my cities in (todays ofc) western Turkey, if I defended any, another full stack army attacked the next round, so they kept some cities under siege over years. They did this for around 10-15 years in the game, and I was so annoyed, that recruited like 3 armies back in Italy and sailed them over to todays Egypt just to do some damage to them, and how was I surprised to see those valuable, but almost empty cities.... Since then I never had any problem to deal with them. :D

    Currently playing the Julii and me and the Egyptians have been at war for nearly 70 turns. All of Asia Minor has been conquered, a mass of Roman legions has just poured across their lands. Currently fighting for Sidon and Damascus, Egypt is finally on their last stand against my red horde😂😂😂😂 they spawn doom stacks pretty quickly but if you have a solid couple armies of legionnaires, auxilia archers and solid cavalry you will annihilate the Egyptians. They play very defensively so it’s easy to out maneuver them, soon I’ll be turning around to fight the rest of Rome. The key for facing them on the battlefield is to keep them off of hills, hills make their spearmen stupid powerful so try to maneuver them off of the hills

      anything works on lower difficulty levels. on VH/VH however, the AI spawns full stack armies constantly just out of your vision range and attacks you relentlessly. the extent of AI cheating, besides difficulty level, depends on the economy of the faction. that's why late game well established Romans or Egyptians are considered hard to deal with. striking quickly on multiple fronts and taking as many settlements as you can very early, is the way to go.

    In my experience the best way to defeat a developed Egypt is twofold.
    Firstly you need to utterly defeat their navy. The Egyptians make bank from levantine trade but they can only build level 2 trade ports, which means they can only build triremes. Blockade the levant and their income will dry up.
    Secondly you need good foot archers. Chariots and phalanx spears are really vulnerable to massed missile units. Egypt is especially vulnerable to this because their elite spearmen don't have shields.
    Go for a decapitation strike on the egyptian heartland and abuse the sheer number of bridges on the nile to make them throw their chariots away. Phalanx spearmen of your own make this much easier.

      @RocketHarry865 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How to beat Egypt if you are the Seleucid have some small defensive armies made of milita hoplites and levy pikemen blocking the bridges and mountain pass ideally in forts so you can have cover from their missile units and funnel the Egyptians head onto the pikes, meanwhile launch a naval invasion with a strike army into the Egyptian heartland. Take their main settlements of Alexandria and Memphis, exterminate the population and demolish all their buildings. Then evacuate or disband your strike army and now the Nile delta is left off as basically a scorched wasteland. Egypt is now in a position where they can't rebuild their armies and will have trouble upkeeping their existing ones while they rebuild their infrastructure. If you don't want to disband your strike army and can't evacuate them then recommend keeping your army in the captured cities. If you have pikemen or hoplites in your army you can use the city choke points to your advantages which will increase the effectiveness of your faction's strength while reducing the Egyptians strengths

    With any problematic faction I start with dismantling their economy (prevents recruitments) and damaging their public order - no need for an army, just block their ports, and use several assassins' to destroy buildings in the settlements, after few turns their economy is in the red, they can't build/recruit - easy win, it sometimes even results in an uprising/riots/city turns to rebels.

    Tried invading Egypt as the Julii after i conquered Spain, Gaul and Carthage. I amassed possibly my largest army yet 2 full armies of 20 with 12 infantry, 3 archers and 4 cavalry and 1 half army of mostly cavalry an infantry.
    The half army would march from Carthage to Egypt taking what it could and holding there before Alexandra, the 2 full armies would land at Alexandra and Jerusalem.
    Long story short i was not prepared to handle the cavalry spam and i got trampled an sieged into default but i inflicted 5× my army size.
    After what seemed like a clear defeat i started a scortched earth plan if demolishing building at all settlements i was hold except the far west witch i was retreating to to regroup and wait for reinforcement and blockading most of their ports for sea Dominates.

    You barely ever have to declare war on Egypt, they'll usually attack you anyway. Their roster is respectable (especially chariot archers and pharaoh's bowmen) but not perfect. My favored strategy for beating them is a surgical strike at their power base. Simply invest in a good navy and land a couple of full stacks near Alexandria. They rarely have strong defenses in the area, and once you take Alexandria and Memphis they're toast. Thebes should also fall pretty quickly. Now the Egyptians have lost their best recruitment options and have to worry about being hit from behind. Just don't underestimate their remaining armies and they'll die in no time.

    5-6 Phalanx vs chariots and cavalrty. General x2. Good cavalry to backstab x3. Horse archers, archers - the rest. Shoot flaming arrows at chariots. Horse archers for their phalanxes when they approach you. Run away from their phalanxes with yours. Let the archers kill everything.

    4 steps.step 1 build a great army and navy atleast have full 2 stacks of both,step 2 land your troops on alexandria and attack there home land it will be easy because they dont have many men there, step 3 with one stack attack the citys and with the other build a fort and buy time for your second army to finish and join and re group with the holding army as the trops are going to attack from the levant, step 4 attack the rest of the settlements and use the navy to blockade and harras the enemy fleat.

      Well because of their lands Egypt can recruit troops more easily and cheap than others factions. You can send assassins to kill generals and family members to weakened.
      But even with latest patch avoid autoresolve against them, siege and open field battles, if they have chariots.
      That damn bug really ruin your campaign.

    To unlock factions to be able to play I've used to pick for example Bruti Romans, build one army and then rush into enemy lands. Just one army is enough to deal with Egypt, Seleucids, Greeks, Carthage, etc. Just rush through and retrain in conquered cities. Then I was just playing normally with conquered state.
