I am 44 years old, and I will never forget the day when I watched my first Canguro English video, it was a year ago and it changed my life forever, Christian gave me hopeless and a way to achieve my goal, he said "IMMERSION", at that moment I was in Chile (I am Chilean) and I was simulating immersion for around 5 months and my progress was amazing!!! , so my next step I did was go to any English country ...now I am living in Sydney and I am studying English every day (but the real experience is on the street with the people), at the moment my level is C1 .... I will always be grateful to Christian... "comfort is the enemy of achievement" .. thank you mate, you showed me the way and it changed my life forever.

I studied French at school and high school. The first time I travelled to Paris, I told my family: "No worries, I can speak French". My mistake. I could write grammar and read French but I couldn't understand what they were saying. I didn't find the words to have a good conversation either. You need to prepare your brain to be available to react during an English conversation. A good friend of mine told me once: you need to practice at home. Speak with youself and try to explain different situations. Sometimes you don´t know the right word to say. Search it in a dictionary and keep practicing. It will be easier for you to remind the word next time you need to use it. Of course, must better if you have the possibility to practice with another person but if not, this is a good way to train your brain. Good luck!

I'm British and have been learning Spanish for most of my life. I've studied and studied. I have put more into this than anything else. I can read the language pretty well but I can't understand native speakers when they talk quickly. My step-father never studied a day in his life but could speak to people in 4 languages. It does seem that some people pick up languages more quickly than others. That said, however unfair or frustrating it can be, we have no choice but to work with the tools we are given.

I have been using a very useful and successful technique so far; I keep listening and listening and listening to English native speakers on TH-cam. This approach enabled me to gain hundreds of new vocabulary, expressions, idioms, phrasal verbs, styles, registers .... etc. Moreover, I discovered that my English accent improved and became almost similar to native speakers. I also became aware of the cultural aspect of the English language. This, and a lot more, is the outcome of just one year of intensive listening.

When I came to Australia, I couldn’t understand any English. I am still studying at home by myself. Now I got a full time job (customer services) but I still have trouble to understand what customers say over the phone. Some of them are a bit racist about my accent, it makes me feel a bit disappointed and some times I feel like giving up. They don’t understand how hard it is learning another language and they don’t accept that they have to talk to someone on the phone who is not Australian. It’s been very hard. I understand your videos because you speak clearly but I can’t understand the customers on the phone. I want to improve it. Please help me. I don’t know what to do to get better.

Well the spanish genteman did a big mistake when he compared himself to the Moroccan touristic guides or even to the locals.because these people live in big touristic cities and practice their english on a daily basis with native english speakers .so this is why i think the comparison is unfair.im Moroccan and i studied english at the university but i cant conversate as nearly as good as these poeple do and that's mainly because i dont get the chance to practice my speaking with english native speakers and also because i always think about the mistakes i could be making during a conversation.so my advice to all of us learners of english in to keep learning the language and never give up.peace

I always think that the other people around me who use this language for work have better spoken and written production than me, and given that, I have never really tried to work in an area that requires advanced level of English.

Most of us language learners have this problem because we compare our skills in our native language to our skills in the language we're learning. It's a ridiculously unfair comparison. The only way to get better is to keep trying and keep challenging yourself. Whenever I struggle when speaking French, I remind myself that I'm struggling because I'm out of my comfort zone, which means I am improving. It sucks but it's unavoidable.

Thank you for this video. I like it much. I have been learnig english. First I wonted to give up learning. It was wery difficult for me. Now I am happy, that I have learned it. My English no is perfect, but I can make understand with other people, also I can watch films e.t.c. Now I am learnig Spanish. .... USE IT OR LOOSE IT. Lo mejor forma para aprender un idoma extranjera es HABLAR, LEER y ESCHUCHAR. Muchas gracias. ☺

Christian is the best teacher ever. Thanks for allowing us to enjoy "communicating" in English. This philosophy of simply thinking about how to share our ideas gives us confidence. What I learn from Christian is to just speak and transmit ideas without worrying about vocabulary or grammar rules.

99.99 % of teachers in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are stupid particularly English language teachers. Even the teachers (Lecturers/Professors) at the college and university level are also teaching at an ordinary low level. The most unfortunate aspect of these three countries is that they are negative minded societies. Language is a language and its merely a source of communication, it may be English or any other language. Unfortunately, English in all afore-mentioned three countries is considered a matter of pride and honor.
Even the well-read people of these countries can read, write, understand and translate English but they are unable to SPEAK English. WHY because they are afraid and afraid. All the time they are afraid that they can't speak English and if they will speak they will speak wrongly or will make mistakes. They are more concerned about grammar. They have no idea that GRAMMAR doesn't have the remotest link with spoken English. The basic issue is fluency in spoken language, not grammar. When a person will be fluent in a language (suppose English) he will be able to gradually improve his grammar, vocabulary, etc. etc. On the other hand, when he will be more concerned about grammar he will never be able to speak a language (English etc.). When a child starts speaking a language he has absolutely no idea of the grammar or vocabulary but he/she can communicate very well; the same is the position of the adults. In spoken language, perfection is not the issue, the issue is that one may be able to speak easily, comfortably and fluently and be able to communicate his feeling, sentiments, emotions, and desires. The majority of the people in English speaking countries speak English ungrammatically but they speak fluently, without any hesitation, reluctance or fear.
This is my request to all those people (children, adults, old/er, literate or illiterate) speak whatever you want to speak without any sort of FEAR. English is not our native language, for us, it's the second language. Just recently, Secretary-General of the UN paid a visit to India and Pakistan, that was the first time when I noticed that he was speaking English very poorly but he was confident. English was not his first language so he was least concerned about pronunciation, vocabulary or English grammar.
Those who are interested in spoken English can contact me without any fear. No age restriction, anyone can contact me from any part of the world. SPOKEN ENGLISH IS NOT A BIG PROBLEM.

Christian is right as always. His words make us think about our life and encourage us to enjoy every moment of our life.Christian urges you never to give up.I have a large vocabulary of English, but I can’t speak English fluently. This is my problem. But I won’t give up!!!I am only 15 years old and my life is just beginning! I think, it’s very important to feel English, speak it fluently and communicate with native English speakers. If you don’t try, you won’t succeed. We learn from our mistakes. However, I believe that the guy from a parable could fight for life. For example, he could scare the mice off.But he gave up very early. 🤔 So, I really want to thank you,Christian, for your helpful videos!!!!!!!!

I think he was just desperate and he will go back to studies after a while. I have almost the same problem, but not giving up, because i love English so much. I think that all is about no opportunities to speak and practise. I have no one for conversation around me, neither in my work nor in privete life, but trying to study by myself through your and others videos. Thank you for your that (is this my commet correct?)

    You are awe-inspiring!!!
It seems that one month ago, I picked not one strawberry, but a hand full of them after I read a book, La vérité sur ce qui nous motive - Daniel Pink , ( Drive : the surprising truth about what motivates us ) , French edition.
I decided, without much of a thinking, that I'll pursuit the study of not one but all Romance languages at the same time. French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Romanian.
I'm not starting from scratch, my mother tongue is romainian and i'm fluent in French and English.
And here I am, one frigid winter evening in Montreal, December 21st, whatching your video, setup the subtitle in Italian, writing the transcript of your 7 minutes and a half video.
It took me 150 minutes, 3 and a half hours of cursive writing, my back is hearting me, also my right hand and fingers .... but man, how much I have enjoyed it!!!
Will I do it again? for sure yes.
Will I do it differently? for sure yes , I'll watch another video and change the subtile in portuguese this time.
    Grazie mille Christian!

As you have said, practice is everything, and I don't try hard enough e.g. a simple SMS in English instead of Polish; or I reply to Polish friends in English if they speak to me in English. Your videos are always full of good advice and common sense. Bravo!

I was good at scoring in my second language English (Bengali is my mother tounge) since I was 3 but never had the fluency to speak. On the other hand Hindi was not included in my schooling. But I am fluent in Hindi. I don't know Hindi grammer. So, speaking in any language isn't a big deal it's a habit. You should (must) involve in that culture generously. I used to watch english movies, news, english musics, news, talk shows for last 4 years seriously. Now I'm not much confident to speak someone else in English as I was not accustomed to speak because my neighbourings don't belong to a english culture. But, I really can realise almost every accents or english dialogues even the native's conversation, almost. If I were in Europe or USA or Australia for atleast 2 months, I will able to speak fluently, I can bet on that.
Bye the way you are always amazing!! ❤️❤️

    Wayfarer, there is no path
    Wayfarer, the only way
Is your footprints and no other.
    Wayfarer, there is no way.
Make your way by going farther.
By going farther, make your way
Till looking back at where you've wandered,
You look back on that path you may
Not set foot on from now onward.
    Wayfarer, there is no way;
    Only wake-trails on the waters.

One question for the Spanish guy: A 3 years old child can speak English fluently. You're 50 years old and you can't. Why???🤔🤔

Oh, nice story, an apologue as they say. So I think I know what is that spanish guy's problem. No fluency. Yeah, sure. To get fluency you have to speak more. Problem solved. Don't get me wrong this is my headache too. I can understand well films, movies, I can read, I can follow someone talking to me easily. Just to open our mouth a way bigger thing. To think about something and say three connecting sentences about that is challenging. Even on your native language. So here's my advice. Talk! Talk to yourself even if there is nobody around you. Say things out loud, mimic movie actors famous dialogues, from your favourite series though. Get used to feeling you speak! Get rid of embarrasement listening you own voice! Keep it on, never give up! Cheers!

It's great story but in my case the strawberry is couple inch out of my reach. Fluency in English can be a huge struggle for some people. I've learning English for many years. Last 4 years I'm living in the UK so I'm learning even more, nevertheless, I'm still hanging couple inches too far away to grab the strawberry. I realy would give up only if I've could but tiger's waiting. Good luck all English dummys! Keep pushing and eat that freaking strawberry. 😁

Mr Canguro is as right as wrong.
Never enough learning and practice, practice, practice
But, as you all have problem with fluent English, the same problem has Mr Canguro trying to learn Spanish. He will never be fluent in Spanish. But he can be good enough for sure.
Next thing is, there are two different English (forms of language).
    1. Studied with books and teachers and exercises , at school or online.
    2. Not studied, but received through real life activities.
Don't expect you'll be ever fluent getting it from teachers. They give only rules and delusion that clashes with reality.
