My hope for the future dwindles everyday. I’m in Louisiana & am currently at work (in the oil/gas industry which I despise). The people I work with cheered at the SCOTUS immunity ruling. They believe Biden shat his pants after watching the cropped video with his chair removed from the video. They swear to me that they’ve done their own fact checking to confirm these beliefs & yet refuse to watch full, un-cropped videos. When I point out Project 2025 plans to replace career government employees with loyalists, they say, “That’s what needs to happen. They can’t be trusted.” Thank you, Matt (& The Line) for helping this poorly educated Louisiana high school dropout learn how to think critically & be skeptical about the information I’m presented with. Now if I can just figure out why I was open to learning where others seem to resist…
You know the full vid us also online. Dude may not have, bit having a toddler, that's what they do when they poop! Also, not to sh!t on Biden, but the dude is old. It happens. We enter this world and leave this world pooping ourselves. He should be enjoying the rest of his life. Not being propped up like a walking corpse.
Project 2025 seeks to make America theistic, fascist oligarchy. We already have the oligarchy. We already have fascist aspects. They seek to solidify these gains and use fascism to keep them that way. They are monsters seeking to completely undo the enlightenment and bring back the dark ages. It will cause more global conflict and lead us to WWIII. They insist upon making the same mistakes over and over again no matter who it hurts.

I think you're projecting . Matt's never come close to implying he's not interested in this planet. In fact everything he does points just the opposite. That he's willing to give time and effort into making it a better place with more people fine tuning their thinking habits
The planet's still got potential, so I'd probably just go with a lyric from an album I listened to yesterday, which said "I don't like this century." 😁

@@Incompetent_Matt you are asking me this after the debacle that was Joe Biden and the fact that Trump did lie in that debate like Matt said in the video. Don’t rely on a total stranger on the YT comments section to do your research for you. Cheers
The problem is Trump says: How many major world conflicts were we involved in under me vs. Biden? How were gas prices under me vs. Biden? How do you view the economy as a whole under me vs. Biden? How secure do you think our border was under me vs. Biden? When you see me vs. Biden talk, who do you find more confidence in? Not saying anything here is Biden's fault or that Trump is actually better in any of these, but the average American is thinking: well, there was no Russia-Ukraine conflict or Israel-Hamas conflict, gas was cheaper, the economy seemed better, Trump was always active and tweeting, and Trump talks about a wall a lot, so our border was probably more secure. The average American is not going in depth; they're thinking off the top of their head.
This was the thinking when the deep state released a lab made mutation of the coof. At election season and covered up and counter science [necessary for the scientific method] for four years and suffered no consequences to prevent doing it again. We should have run a real strongman instead of a reality star against the progressive world view, but the average American would rather prostitute for the 80’s to come back.
Thinking off the top of their heads? Dude I think those topics are key evidence that things are way worse under this administration. What do you expect the points of discussion to be? If you think this is petty stuff and things are better now, I guess you don't own any companies and don't have direct contact with market reality.
Yeah, but the average American is insular, idiotic and insecure... On the one hand, america has been fucking with the government of so very many foreign nations, that it's about time that the US government gets fucked. Accordingly, Trump is the President that the USA deserves. On the other hand, what happens in the USA can affect the rest of the world and in that respect, I really hope that President Plump does NOT win the upcoming election. Either way, I don't care too much. Either we get 4 years of comedy, along with not taking the USA seriously in global affairs, OR we get a world leader.
Why do people keep putting Biden and Trump together as if yeah they are both bad. No Biden has been a good president. He has been very successful in his four years. It’s not a choice between the lesser of two evils. One of them is an actual good choice.
@@vincemcmahonreadskoran3120are you suggesting we've gained 50 million people since the last census? I don't know of any data that would support that suggestion.
"Facts are just another opinion" that's what our former prime minster Rutte once said. He's now on his way to become the next secretary general of NATO. For what I see happening in Europe; the voters for ultra-right parties don't care about facts. They just vote for the guy that happens to say what they like to hear. It's worrisome.
I presume you are referring to the dutch PM. Any source for that quote? Or are you trying to prove your point with this post by quoting your opinion as a fact?
@jojorumbles They don't tell you that the minimum wage hasn't increased since 2009, how many are overqualified for their job at Starbucks, how you need (what was it) 30 dollars a freaking hour to live in California?
When politicians talk about the economy it's GDP and the stock market, which means fuckall to the average worker when inflation is making everything more expensive. It's an idiotic talking point.
@@horrorbusiness8292 Inflation was 3,3% in May. Today you have the lowest unemployment. More jobs were created under this administration than under Trump's. Crime has plummeted.
@@Icemann89 I'm no Trump defender, but covid certainly didn't help the unemployment situation. The inflation rate going down doesn't make overall inflation go down. That would be deflation, which we are not experiencing (and has its own problems). The only point to my comment is that what people typically think of signs the economy is doing well don't necessarily correlate to what's being reported as a good economy.
I’ve noticed I’m becoming increasingly nihilistic due to this “post-fact world” you describe. A little about me: I’m a wealthy, straight white male in a rich, normally relatively liberal country in Europe. I’ve always supported policies that focus on empathy, equity and reality, both with my vote and with my actions - everything from organic shopping to driving an electric car to speaking up if I can when I see injustice. Now, however, I’m becoming… tired, I guess? Why should I wash my clothes at 30 degrees Celsius if 10 companies are responsible for 70% of emissions, and this has been known for decades? Why should I fight for what’s right if a bunch of ignorant bigots win the popular vote anyway, simply because their base of ignorant bigots is always going to be larger? What even is the point if, as you say, we’re discussing flat earth and astrology for REAL? More and more I find myself caring less and less. So the world will go to shit. So be it. Apparently, that’s what most people want. Why do I continue to care?
"Why do I continue to care?" - Because if nobody does, the world trully will go to shit. Every day behaviors by nobodies like you and me are the only things that save, have saved, and will save humanity from itself.
I may be swimming in a pool full of shit, but the least I can do is not shit in it myself. Maybe I can even evacuate a log or two into the trash on my way out. Sure, that won't change the sewer line dumping into the pool, but if enough everyday people take inspiration from what I'm doing, then maybe we can pressure the city into moving the sewers. ...or something like that, I guess.
When it comes to voting, for example, I always treat it like this: I expect my vote to make no difference, but I vote like I'm the only one whose voice can make a difference to begin with. It is the only way that I can think of to keep strong against the tide of bullshit, and realize as much as it might not seem like it, you're not alone in giving a shit. Becoming one of the dipshits won't solve anything. Some problems are hard, and seem insurmountable. They rarely are.
During the debate, I picked up on some things that I'm not sure the audience caught. I feel like when Biden agreed with Trump that Trump did not cause the inflation, it was very bad for Biden. But what was even worse was that Biden said the inflation didn't happen under Trump due to a "flat economy and not creating jobs," which is a really foolish thing to say. There is no direct relationship between inflation and job creation. In fact, Biden basically implied that creating jobs leads to inflation, which is a very misleading association to leave the viewer with. Now, if the government passes some new social program to create jobs and gets the Fed to print money to pay for it, sure, there is a link, but that's the only way it happens, and that's the government's fault and the central bank's fault. At the end of the day, inflation happens because of monetary policies - i.e. central banks printing more money. That's the real issue, and I even think Biden knows that and just wanted to blame Trump as much as possible. Regardless of how much of a trainwreck this part of the debate was, and whether the audience knows about the Fed or not, Biden admitting Trump didn't create the inflation is an easy enough talking point for the audience to understand. If Trump = no inflation, then I feel like that gives the uninformed voter who is very concerned about inflation every reason to vote for Trump, and Biden is responsible for that. This is one part of the debate where he messed it up or lied (depending on how charitable you want to be). What a horrible exchange. Not only was it factually wrong, but he almost certainly lost support there. The reality is, if you want to minimize inflation as much as possible, you need to reform the Fed and go back to a precious metal standard so they can't just pump new money into supply as easily as they are doing now. Not only does this prevent inflation under the current president, it prevents it for all future presidents. I would have to give this entire exchange to Trump, because Trump has actually talked about the Fed issue in the past publicly, whereas Biden and Harris don't want to educate the public about this at all. Gone are the days of Ron Paul sadly, but Trump is at least aware of the issue and isn't lying about it (even if he lies about a bunch of other things). Also, twice Biden backed up his points by saying "all the scholars agree with X," which again is a terrible talking point since I think the American people have had it with universities at this point. Not exactly the authority you want to put forth as evidence. Many republicans and independents do not hold these institutions with a high regard and these talking points won't sway many of them. Who was coaching him to say this? Stick with facts, not opinions. At the end of the day, Biden's points were not aimed at gaining new support from Republicans and Independents, but trying to maintain and solidify his existing support. That's not a good strategy in a close election. And due to poor execution, Biden actually lost support in the process. Bad coaching up and down.
I generally agree that Biden did a very poor job of explaining major trends to an uneducated electorate. That said, printing money is not the only way to generate inflation. Also, increasing central bank interest rates puts downward pressure on employment, so there is a connection.
I hate Trump but saying Biden spoke with truth the entire time is laughably wrong. Please stop doing damage control for this shit both candidates should be replaced and doing damage control doesn't help get that done
As a brazilian i'm really afraid that Trump wins this election, because I'm pretty confident it will boost the brazilian alt right for our elections in 2026. The polarizarion in your country and the threats to democracy are pretty much in the same status here😢

Minha Esposa è Brasilera and I think there are some Brazilian voting laws that I think should be implemented in the U.S.: (1) voting is mandator-- you can vote none of the above, but you have to participate; (2) if neither candidate gets a majority of the votes, then the election starts over with NEW CANDIDATES.

I am glad you made this video. I was wondering if you would avoid it due to the fact that it was political in nature. I am glad because you are an expert debater. Therefore, I wanted to hear your thought about the debate from the point of view of a debater. Thanks.
Surely in the whole of the USA there must be some other people whom are better suited for this job, than Trump (surely) and Biden (getting old). As an outsider, I would vote for Biden.
Hey Matt i really enjoyed listening to your take on this. I hope you will consider perhaps making more videos like this which cover your opinions on matters that don't necessarily relate to religion/atheism.
While this may not be "atheist content" I think it is very relevant to atheist issues given that the project 2025 folks want to turn this country into a theocracy.
If we wait till the second debate it will be impossible to replace him. It has to be done by the Convention in August. Otherwise, we are stuck with Biden and he will lose. The battle is over the vote of people that haven't made up their mind yet. I know if is hard to believe that these people exist but they do and much more will vote for Trump now. It is too much to risk to expect that Biden can overcome that debate debacle.
Biden has defeated trump when trump was in alot better condition. January 6 caused some voters to never vote for trump again. Nor was he a convicted criminal at the time. He is now. Trump is the one who needs to get more voters than last time, not Biden.
@@SansDeity I don't think we should replace biden personally but even if undecideds are idiots they still have a vote. I absolutely agree. There are so many talented younger politicians in the US, it's really sad that neither the Republicans nor the Democrats were able to bring forth more competent candidates.
This debate was like when Bush #1 infamously checked his watch during a debate, but as if Biden was staring at his watch the entire time. Absolutely horrifying based on what's at stake.
This is absolutely a dead on assessment of the debate. Thanks Matt, too bad you are not on the Biden debate team. The lack of critical thinking coming from a too significant portion of our society is truly disheartening. But i will not lose faith.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics definitely doesn't show a 30 year low. But it does show a 30 month low (37 months actually), so maybe that was the point?
If you listen to his next sentence it seems like he said the wrong thing there. A verbal typo if you will. His very next sentence is talking about the unemployment rate (which a quick search I did DOES seem to be at a ~30 year low, yet people think is high). I think of this as a good example of his initial point, that an off the cuff talk given without edits can lead to basic mistakes.

Yep. This didn't age well in any shape or form, even those that try to be logical and reasonable are swayed by political ideologies....such a shame I like Matt but my respect for him took a massive hit when I saw this 🙄
In hindsight, I think neither candidate really considered the audience that’s important: Undecided voters and voters who CAN be swayed. These are people who don’t consume a lot of media and have no real basis upon which to analyze what issues are important across the spectrum or how they’re being addressed. Based on post-debate polling, it seems like Biden just so happened to fill in the blanks better… because he prepared points on known issues. The number of questions that Trump dodged by wanting to have the last word on the previous topic was obvious. The lack of any plan to solve any issues, or explanation of how he gets credit for tons of things that happened during his administration was apparent. I thought Trump projected greater strength and confidence. I thought Biden dropped the ball. However, I cannot imagine a scenario in which I would ever vote for Trump. The undecided are not where I’m at. The undecided haven’t been swayed by Trump’s bluster OR Biden’s age. Both candidates confirmed those things… it wasn’t going to change anyone’s mind or draw anyone onto their side of the fence. Who has a plan? That’s the question undecided voters need answered. Not who has complaints? Who’s older? Certainly not who’s better at golf? Based on post-debate polling, and in retrospect, “I have a plan!” was the SINGLE THING undecided voters need to hear. Biden won. As consequences go, I’d prefer to fear-monger over a second Trump presidency and say how difficult this event was for Biden, to do my part in manipulating people to not be complacent. In all honesty, DO NOT BE COMPLACENT! Trump is still a threat. Biden won based on polling , but this is NOT in the bag. The single most important thing that Biden should have done but didn’t occurred during opportunities that came up close to the end of the debate when the topics of Biden not firing anyone and Biden’s age came up, it’s something that Trump CANNOT do. Biden has a surprisingly long list of significant accomplishments under his administration that is arguably unmatched in any presidential term in living history. Seriously. Fact-check it. And the key word is “administration.” Biden ought to be absolutely clear that he, alone did not guide us out of a pandemic, provide better care for veterans and the elderly, mitigate the post-pandemic global inflation impact on the U.S., pass sweeping infrastructure, embrace the future of clean energy while fostering the contemporary need for currently employable energy, lower unemployment and sustain low unemployment while creating jobs at virtually unprecedented rates, and WOULD have passed once-in-a-generation border reform legislation if Trump and his Republican cult worshipers weren’t OBVIOUSLY fucking lying when they claim that border policy reform is urgent… and that’s LITERALLY their biggest complaint. Trump sensationalizes border policy reform above ALL else… but LITERALLY said to blame him for blocking progress on border policy reform. Next thing you know, Trump will blame Biden for the unpopularity of the Supreme Court’s overturn of Roe v Wade because it happened under Biden’s administration. Forgive my sidetrack inti something that’s true, but ancillary. The point is: Biden needs to point out that Biden alone did not come up with all the accomplishments that happened due to his administration. He’s friggin’ 81. He’s not the most genius radical problem-solver in existence. What he IS… is someone who recognizes the need to surround himself with people who fill in his gaps. He’s someone who can identify people who come up with good ideas and select the ideas which seem to have the most beneficial outcomes for Americans. As powerful as a President is, a President can’t Thanos snap away all the first-world woes of all Americans, much less the legitimate problems we all face as a nation.. A President needs an administration that advises of all considerations and consequences, including everything a President hasn’t considered as an individual.Americans cannot reasonably expect better from Our President. This makes several statements. It provides an unbridgeable contrast against Trump’s messaging of “I alone can save you,” “loyalty to Trump,” and the undeniable divisiveness that Trump’s stated ideologies promote, not just amongst Americans… but amongst many, if not most Republicans… amongst many, if not most, of his OWN FUCKING ADMINISTRATIVE SELECTIONS. It also says “if I die at 82… I’ve put together a demonstrably capable and effective cabinet that is already in place to fill in the gaps my successor may have. All they have to do is select the best ideas. I repeat, we cannot reasonably expect better from our President. Trump doesn’t have a plan to solve anything. He just claims it’ll be so easy. He’ll solve it in 48 hours. How? No fucking clue. Trump’s cabinet will be filled with people who unflinchingly agree that Trump alone will solve it in 48 hours out of complete loyalty. That’s not a plan. If Biden runs on this… if he makes this the ONE THING that separates him from Trump.., he WILL win the undecided voters… he’ll win the swing states and he’ll win this election. For the undecided… it’s not about WHAT the facts are. The facts are already out there, even if you’re someone who has no basis by which to determine what’s being objectively reported by the media.. It’s about WHO can provide a path forward.
13:38 "to see if they can learn from this debate in September and change..." Sorry Matt but what makes tou think either of them are capable of changing their tune about anything?
To repair this, Biden would have to do a series of live town hall events taking unscripted questions from the public. The sooner the better IMO; he has to demonstrate that his debate performance was a fluke, or face the fact that another candidate has a better chance of motivating current non-voters.
Matt! I hope you can edit-you first said inflation is at a 30-yr-low and you meant employment. I knew what you meant cause I’ve watched your other videos, others won’t know..
I tuned in for 30 seconds, heard and saw Biden and tuned out. He looked so old and weak I felt it was a bad idea. But I missed all the facts he pointed out and had no idea about the rules. For an 80 year old man with a cold to remember that off the cuff is impressive. Thanks for more information on the debate
The two Party system has given me a choice between either a convicted felon and fascist, or a feeble senior citizen. I'll pick the feeble senior citizen.
The feeble senior citizen is a fascist enabler. Just look at how he bought into the right wing framing on immigration. Undocumented immigrants commit less crimes than US citizens (go figure, they don't want to risk any encounters with the police lest they be deported). Immigration is not nearly as big of a problem as they both pretend it is, yet he lets the fascists define the narrative and concedes that they were "right" all along. Now he isn't even stepping down when he is the only person that can lose to Trump. It doesn't matter who you vote for. We lose rights under both administration. Fascism is already here.
Life was better under the convicted felon, I'll take the felon any day of the week. As a Texan, dealing with the border crisis has negatively impacted my community in almost every measurable way. You wouldn't understand.
I think Matt should be hired as THE debate coach by Joe Biden's reelection campaign for the next debate, and Jimmy Snow should be hired to play the part of Trump for debate prep sessions.

@SilentSputnik that isn't what I said at all. Very few people bother to fact check, and fewer still understand how to do it accounting for biases and blind spots. I'd absolutely encourage people to fact check for themselves. Fact check the fact checkers. The more validation the better. Learn how to do it right. If people aren't going to do the homework themselves, we need better ways to battle misinformation. Not fact checking isn't the answer.

@benhurbenstiller I mean, he's there, but he's not there for long. Certainly not long enough to focus enough to run a country. He's pushing his limits too far out here and the world is seeing it. Thanks for the context Matt, it helped me today. In my mind, The issue with Biden’s performance is not mostly about appearances or even whether it affects his ability to win.

Because you share this world with everyone else?
"Why do I continue to care?" - Because if nobody does, the world trully will go to shit. Every day behaviors by nobodies like you and me are the only things that save, have saved, and will save humanity from itself.
If you dont care to be better than those you despise then how you are better than them? And if you dont care anymore why should anyone care about you?
I may be swimming in a pool full of shit, but the least I can do is not shit in it myself. Maybe I can even evacuate a log or two into the trash on my way out. Sure, that won't change the sewer line dumping into the pool, but if enough everyday people take inspiration from what I'm doing, then maybe we can pressure the city into moving the sewers.
...or something like that, I guess.
When it comes to voting, for example, I always treat it like this:
I expect my vote to make no difference, but I vote like I'm the only one whose voice can make a difference to begin with. It is the only way that I can think of to keep strong against the tide of bullshit, and realize as much as it might not seem like it, you're not alone in giving a shit.

Early still but it would shock everyone if he didn't become our next president.
@@TheOtisProject because Biden here’s a better sniper next time?
I really do appreciate what you do regardless of what the subject matter is.
The moderators of the 2024 Colorado Republican Convention should host the final 2024 Presidential Debate.

Matt, I really enjoyed this video and I would personally like to see you do more videos like these, especially around election time. Biden even existing as ANY leader is mind boggling. Biden couldn’t even be a shift supervisor at McDonalds.

Matt, inflation is NOT at a 30 year low. Come on man!
The Bureau of Labor Statistics definitely doesn't show a 30 year low. But it does show a 30 month low (37 months actually), so maybe that was the point?
He said it correctly in the next sentence. He meant unemployment. Come on man!
@@Rusty-Shackleford69 unemployment... it was corrected
@@SansDeity Thanks! I'll re watch it!
“You will have plenty of time to work on your golf score next year” is what he should have said.
Thank ya Matt!

@@jeffknott1975yep, Matt lost all credibility in my book.

In hindsight, I think neither candidate really considered the audience that’s important:
Undecided voters and voters who CAN be swayed.
And the key word is “administration.”
Biden ought to be absolutely clear that he, alone did not guide us out of a pandemic, provide better care for veterans and the elderly, mitigate the post-pandemic global inflation impact on the U.S., pass sweeping infrastructure, embrace the future of clean energy while fostering the contemporary need for currently employable energy, lower unemployment and sustain low unemployment while creating jobs at virtually unprecedented rates, and WOULD have passed once-in-a-generation border reform legislation if Trump and his Republican cult worshipers weren’t OBVIOUSLY fucking lying when they claim that border policy reform is urgent… and that’s LITERALLY their biggest complaint.
He’s someone who can identify people who come up with good ideas and select the ideas which seem
to have the most beneficial outcomes for Americans.
I for one welcome our new non-atheist content. It's humanist and debate centered.
Thank you Matt for spelling it all out for the simple folk....

The future is always hard to predict, but I really wonder whether Biden will actually do the second debate.
This is the only way ill watch the debate. By hearing about it.
They both are senior citizens and both equally feeble.
Life was better under the convicted felon, I'll take the felon any day of the week. As a Texan, dealing with the border crisis has negatively impacted my community in almost every measurable way. You wouldn't understand.
@@miknarfObjectively false. You must have biden brain mash to make a statement like that.

In what ways is it worse off? And do you care about Trumps complete disrespect of veterans?
@@miknarf Trump never has disrespected the military as far as I know ( yes, I am aware of the claims) but they are always cited by some unnamed source . I have to judge him on the actions. He put generals in his cabinet, gave thge military a raise, fought to bring them home, upped the budget for them, allowed Vets the ability to be seen by private health sector if needed and at no additional cost. and anytime I have ever seen him interact with any military personnel, he has had the utmost respect for them face to face. The more ppl we can help to see reason, the more ppl they can then teach.
You're arguments have taught me many different ways to converse with irrational ppl and helped me better identify fallacies, so I can convince others. which I have.
You never really know how big your role can be.
The debate should not be live. It should be recorded, then fact checked, and THEN broadcast along with the facts.
That's completely absurd. Why would you want someone else to screen what you get to view? Screen it yourself.
@SilentSputnik always a red flag when someone opposes fact checking.
@@uninspired3583 Ridiculous. You want to trust others to fact check for you.
@@uninspired3583 You can't fact check if everything has already been filtered by someone else. Take accountability for it.

Matt please make that comparison video. I am still for Trump at this point but maybe that's just cause I'm stupid. Would love to be convinced why I should go for Biden.
The "debate" was between one guy who struggled to speak truthfully, and one guy who struggled to speak.

@benhurbenstiller I mean, he's there, but he's not there for long. Certainly not long enough to focus enough to run a country. He's pushing his limits too far out here and the world is seeing it.
Stuttering was more a symbolic point of contrast to lying than a literal "Biden was stuttering," he was more struggling to maintain a train of thought... not sure if there's a great single word to communicate that. Meh.
@@benhurbenstiller Thank you! I hate all the people saying, "He's always had a stutter". He hasn't. Also, that wasn't a stutter.

Thanks for the context Matt, it helped me today. In my mind, The issue with Biden’s performance is not mostly about appearances or even whether it affects his ability to win. It is clear from that performance that he’s not going to be able to do this for 4-5 more years.
