Worse than that. Your politics influences politics around the world, especially here in Latin America where the extreme right is just a cheap and even more pathetic copy of yours.

My hope for the future dwindles everyday. I’m in Louisiana & am currently at work (in the oil/gas industry which I despise). The people I work with cheered at the SCOTUS immunity ruling. They believe Biden shat his pants after watching the cropped video with his chair removed from the video. They swear to me that they’ve done their own fact checking to confirm these beliefs & yet refuse to watch full, un-cropped videos. When I point out Project 2025 plans to replace career government employees with loyalists, they say, “That’s what needs to happen. They can’t be trusted.”
Thank you, Matt (& The Line) for helping this poorly educated Louisiana high school dropout learn how to think critically & be skeptical about the information I’m presented with. Now if I can just figure out why I was open to learning where others seem to resist…

The levels of cope are absurd

  • @Katie-hb8iq
    @Katie-hb8iq 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

During the debate, I picked up on some things that I'm not sure the audience caught. I feel like when Biden agreed with Trump that Trump did not cause the inflation, it was very bad for Biden. But what was even worse was that Biden said the inflation didn't happen under Trump due to a "flat economy and not creating jobs," which is a really foolish thing to say. There is no direct relationship between inflation and job creation. In fact, Biden basically implied that creating jobs leads to inflation, which is a very misleading association to leave the viewer with.
Now, if the government passes some new social program to create jobs and gets the Fed to print money to pay for it, sure, there is a link, but that's the only way it happens, and that's the government's fault and the central bank's fault. At the end of the day, inflation happens because of monetary policies - i.e. central banks printing more money. That's the real issue, and I even think Biden knows that and just wanted to blame Trump as much as possible.
Regardless of how much of a trainwreck this part of the debate was, and whether the audience knows about the Fed or not, Biden admitting Trump didn't create the inflation is an easy enough talking point for the audience to understand. If Trump = no inflation, then I feel like that gives the uninformed voter who is very concerned about inflation every reason to vote for Trump, and Biden is responsible for that. This is one part of the debate where he messed it up or lied (depending on how charitable you want to be).
What a horrible exchange. Not only was it factually wrong, but he almost certainly lost support there. The reality is, if you want to minimize inflation as much as possible, you need to reform the Fed and go back to a precious metal standard so they can't just pump new money into supply as easily as they are doing now. Not only does this prevent inflation under the current president, it prevents it for all future presidents.
I would have to give this entire exchange to Trump, because Trump has actually talked about the Fed issue in the past publicly, whereas Biden and Harris don't want to educate the public about this at all. Gone are the days of Ron Paul sadly, but Trump is at least aware of the issue and isn't lying about it (even if he lies about a bunch of other things).
Also, twice Biden backed up his points by saying "all the scholars agree with X," which again is a terrible talking point since I think the American people have had it with universities at this point. Not exactly the authority you want to put forth as evidence. Many republicans and independents do not hold these institutions with a high regard and these talking points won't sway many of them. Who was coaching him to say this? Stick with facts, not opinions.
At the end of the day, Biden's points were not aimed at gaining new support from Republicans and Independents, but trying to maintain and solidify his existing support. That's not a good strategy in a close election. And due to poor execution, Biden actually lost support in the process. Bad coaching up and down.

I’ve always supported policies that focus on empathy, equity and reality, both with my vote and with my actions - everything from organic shopping to driving an electric car to speaking up if I can when I see injustice.
Now, however, I’m becoming… tired, I guess? Why should I wash my clothes at 30 degrees Celsius if 10 companies are responsible for 70% of emissions, and this has been known for decades? Why should I fight for what’s right if a bunch of ignorant bigots win the popular vote anyway, simply because their base of ignorant bigots is always going to be larger? What even is the point if, as you say, we’re discussing flat earth and astrology for REAL?

Inflation is due to high employment. This is because when more people are working, there is more spending by the public. Where there is more spending, there is more demand for goods, all else being equal. Where there is more demand for goods, the prices go up.
    Here is how counter inflation:
    1) Stagger demand for goods- provide some incentives (i.e. coupons, discounts, etc.) for people in certain areas to buy one set of goods; provide some incentives for another set of goods for people in other areas.
    2) Encourage saving- maybe get the banks to increase the interest rates for savings accounts or give special rates for CD; also encourage investing
    AND
    3) Contractionary Monetary Policy where the Fed. Reserve Bank increases the interest rates.

People don't vote by looking at facts. They vote with their perception and feelings - fear, hope, etc. We can't say Biden's age is an assess when he fails to move even his own base, after having been in Washington for more than half a century. The debate was theatrical, yes. But so is the role of the President of the United States domestically and internationally. Should US interests take a hit if Biden has a cold when addressing world leaders and couldn't use his teleprompters? With so much at stake, hoping that Grandpa would get fewer senior moments the next round is not what we can afford. He failed at performing on stage, which is a critical part of the job. He failed to galvanize his base, especially young voters. How is he going to beat Trump? Howard Dean's political ambitions ended because of a technical issue with the mic. Handing Trump the White House could mean 8/9 Supreme Court justices would be conservative; presidential power and career justice department employees would take on drastically different roles. Biden is not going to beat Trump by emulating Trump's lack of humility.

Immigration is not nearly as big of a problem as they both pretend it is, yet he lets the fascists define the narrative and concedes that they were "right" all along.

The target audience isn't undecideds. By all accounts that is such a small group with no localization or organization that their effect in any given district will be negligible.
The target audience is, ironically given we both agree that debates are about show, Trump voters. Rather, the few Trump voters out there who are on the fence about him as a result of his criminality etc.
We've seen the polls about perceptions of him, there is a lot of hesitancy around him that wasn't there before. It's my view that the primary goal of future debates should be to project strength and confidence. The goal being to give republican voters an excuse to not vote for Trump, even if they won't actually vote for Biden. With Biden stepping onto the stage and declaring a victory over... Medicaid... I can guarantee you that as little confidence as it instilled in democratic voters, it all but ensured that the "maybe I'll sit this one out" republicans were pushed quite hard away from that position. We need those republicans to sit this one out and Biden managed to do the worst thing imaginable in that situation short of literally dropping dead on stage.

The GOP platform is Project 2025. In a nutshell they mean to gut the administrative state, cut all entitlements (read: Steal Your Money,) give the wealthy a bigger tax cut, force their cultural agenda on everybody, (end gay marriage, Nationally ban abortion, gut child labor protections, got the EPA, SEC, etc.)
Force everybody to read the Bible in school a whole bunch of people, and be hawkish in foreign policy.
So if we look at the fact that in the debate Biden brought facts and figures, and in terms of legislation the Democrats have tried for infrastructure, better wages, environmental regulations, preserving people's rights, etc. It seems Crystal Clear who won.
