It's not about being a fan sounding like Joey, but understanding where their sound and aggression comes from, their musical background, which I think Jay never understood. Many bands that lose their drummer simply can't recover from that, they either change or breakup, so that's why in my POV, Slipknot's is thankful they found Eloy, because they tried and although they had great songs, it didn't sound like I, and probably, they expected.

the thing that i'm most happy about is the fact the whole band is performing good, they're all looking happy, motivated and enjoying it (again). i think hiring a virtuoso musician gave them the responsability to perform as such. eloy is great and so is slipknot again. no disrespect to jay who is also a great drummer but eloy is a perfect match for slipknot.

Yes every drummer has their place J may be at a low point right now but he is still a successful professional I believe he's playing with Suicidal Tendencies they feature Dave Lombardo and many great drummers not to mention the founding drummer. At first my reaction was while they lost two more members they're barely half and half, but when I seen the performance and really just gave it some more thought. They remember that were in the band and left because they didn't want it anymore or or fell a little complacent. Well they've been replaced by people that are psyched out and want this new experience and their energized for it.
I think the member that I'm most sympathetic for is Chris Fehn. However they do have opportunities to do new projects. Some good things don't last forever I'm 42 and my life was awesome until my forties. I didn't ruin my life but I did spend all my money and had to move home. But I do get to play my drums in the living room at midnight thanks to those mesh heads and Sound Reduction Cymbals.

This is legitimately the first time this song has been played at the right tempo in YEARS. Eloy’s not only precise as shit, but he knows how the songs should feel and stands by it. Corey also sounds better than he has in a long time. Super excited for this new era.

He's definitely up there, but you still have guys like Danny Carey, Matt Garstka, Tomas Haake, Mario Duplantier, Mike Portnoy, and on and on. I shy away from identifying who the "best individual" is and allocate them to a sort of tier at the top of the pyramid of "best drummers"
I am, Estepario is superior. The issue is his tour experience.

@@rippindrummer666 I've seen the video You're referencing and the problem is being drummers or musicians, we generally do not indicate if we're better than somebody else unless Lars Ulrich is in the same room. Estepario is beyond humble and sees anyone's material as a learning opportunity. So naturally, he looks up to Eloy and shows the upmost respect.

At a workshop here in Brazil, Eloy told a fan of his when he asked him if the rumors that he would join Slipknot were true. Eloy replied that he had two dreams, the first was to play in Sepultura and he fulfilled it, the fan asked what the second one was, Eloy just smiled from ear to ear. He's probably making the band regain its pride, that's clear at the shows. And yes, his other big dream was to be there with them.
With all due respect to Jay. But now it's nice to hear the good old Slipknot back. Even the image he conveys is one of brutality, it's like the spirit of this band being reborn.

@@mudcastJay was good but he was more of a punk/hardcore drummer. He didn’t even really play metal/double kick till he joined slipknot. Jay sound good in suicidal tendencies because they have alot of punk influence. He seems happy in ST playing with Ben weinman who was in dillinger escape plan(one of Kay’s favorite bands). Eloy should have been the drummer since Joey left, Jay mainly got the gig because of his dad introducing Jay to slipknot when they played on Conan

Exactly. Craig Reynolds did a video about this. I do think Eloy is using a metronome app just to give him tempo at the start of the song. But no click track.

The thing i like the most about Eloy is that he somehow follows the perfect rhythm. It just sounds like it's exactly the tempo it should be. Not too fast, not too slow. that's quality rhythmics.
People who wanted Estepario Siberiano don’t realize he is HEAVILY sampled. Eloy can actually pull tone from drums without the help of computers.

He’s an INCREDIBLE drummer that “face tunes” his videos. Doesn’t make him bad…. But it doesn’t make him the right choice for this band. That’s all I was saying.
@@claritysedge1786 It took me two minutes to see that he uses the EAD only on his kick in the TH-cam shorts and in the full TH-cam videos it's not there... + you don't even know what he is triggering. As he is doing it only on the shorts I assume it triggers a sample that is easier to hear on smartphones, as these are the devices most people watch shorts on. And kicks are often hard to hear on small speakers or cheap headphones.
But that's not what I was talking about in my first reply. Nobody here said anything and you just went after this guy and discredited him. Why? He even said himself that Eloy would be the best drummer for slipknot. I'm not a estepario fanboy by any means but I don't know what it is with some people on TH-cam that just shit on people without any need in a video that is not even related to this topic.
And concerning Eloys Drumtone, he right now is presumably the best metal drummer in the world, has a high profile drum tech, the best sound guys for metal and an unlimited budget. Of course it sounds great.

My takeaway from this specific show, Corey sounds absolutely amazing. And I'm so glad they're playing closer to album speeds again. It always felt so weird when they played this song over 1.75x speed. I can't wait for a pro shot show that's also streamed so we can hear and see everything a lot better

In your post-video discussion you are bang on! As someone who's been listening to Slipknot well over 20 years (holy crap!) this certainly feels like a new "lease on life" as you said. The energy was absolutely palpable and thru a phone recording! Incredible! Also something to note is this red jumpsuit look is a throwback to one of their original looks, I think it demonstrates they feel it too, this is the second coming of Slipknot!

Eloy Cadagrande is literally the best possible choice for their drummer. Man's inhuman, probably hardest hitting drummer in the genre
First time I saw them was at Ozzfest back in 99 in Nashville, Tennessee.
They have gone back to the jumpsuits which’s is awesome!!!
In the past few years we've seen a heavy bitterness with slipknot members, and this show with eloy its like eloy is making them enjoy their own work once more with all the freshness, greatness and absolute perfection he brings to the bands repertoire.

I went through a similar response to Eloy, loved Slipknot until Joey left and it felt different. Eloy bringing the heat has rekindled my interest in their music again. I did the same thing when Lamb of God lost Chris Adler, maybe one day he'll return like Portnoy did to DT.

I use that exact metronome app myself to reference tempo's at the start of songs live, a lot of drummers do. If I was doing a gig playing to a click I would NEVER use that app in addition. It's completely meaningless, because the click is sent by the monitor engineer and ususally synced up to lights/video etc.
Besides, just measure the song with a metronome. It fluctuates.
The band is not using a metronome now and they have never done so.

As far as I understood, for the band to have a click they should have IEM - that is not the case? And they dont. And for him to be on a click alone he should start the songs or count them for others to start right? Oterwise how would the other member know the speed the click is at? I suppose he concluded with evidence would be better :)

Two of my favorite bands, the foos and slipknot picking up the most perfect of drummers for their bands style of music. Cannot wait for new albums. Especially slipknot with eloy oh my God
One thing that I don't notice people mentioning is how good Corey sounds. During the Chapter III tour cycle almost 15 years ago, it really sounded like vocals were taking a toll on him and he was constantly out of breath and his screaming just sounded so off. Now he sounds like it's 1999 again? Don't know how he did it, but glad to hear him sounding so good now.
Also in an interview once, Eloy introduced himself as 'Eloy Bighouse' and it never ONCE occurred to me that that's what his name means 🤣

Dude used to practice 10h to 12h a day. At times, even more. No wonder he is so precise live... Takes a huge amount of effort to achieve that level.
That's why musicians like him are so motivational. It's not just about raw talent, but how much work ethic they have.

Slipknot is one of the band with all star talented drummers as their members.
I'm no drummer, but I hear bluesy style with Joey, jazzy style with Jay, and Eloy has straight classic rock style.
Everyone brings something to the songs. Eloy makes the other members and fans excited with Slipknot after disappointing last album for me personally.
The obvious difference with Eloy is he's DRIVING THE BAND instead of following the band. THAT is what makes a great drummer and a TIGHT band. Welcome to the Knot Eloy!

People were saying that he was playing to a click, because of the footage showing the metronome. But, he is just referencing the metronome app at the start of songs to get a feel for the tempo. He's definitely not playing to a click on the tracks where the guitar starts the song. Because the guitar is setting the tempo and neither guitarist is wearing in ear monitors. Craig Reynolds also knows some of the guys in Slipknot and has confirmed that the band definitely don't use a click. It's possible that Eloy is playing to a click on some of the tracks he starts the song though, because he has an in ear monitor on. Could just be that he likes to hear the other instruments clearly though. He's also not using triggers and the full sounding bass drums sound awesome.

Previous live versions of this with other drummers had this tune as way more up tempo than this and the recorded version - and the tempo wandered a lot in other live versions. As well, an excellent drummer can take hold of a band and drive them to higher levels than before like some kind of chemical catalyst in a powerful chemical reaction. Eloy is a beast..and it’s been long overdue as any one who has seen or followed knows he does Slipkont better than any other drummer and he is well versed in other styles and nails those too, eg, Latin and Afro Cuban.

I'm not a drummer or musician at all but I know good when i hear it and the drums just sound more old school Slipknot with Eloy. They sound louder, deeper, faster than they did with Jay. I'm a Jay fan, nothing at all bad to say about him and his era, but, with Eloy.. holy cow.. it's like thunder or bombs being dropped. That's the best way i can describe it. I'm unsure how to explain his sound as a non-muscian but to ME.. his style feels like Dave Lombardo and Bill Ward. It's just really heavy and deep and powerful.

@Andrew Rooney Drums You should do a video on his side project called "Casagrande & Hanysz", you would be blown away more than this. There's a performance for Drummeo where he plays a song called Resolution (which they later changed to Fracture) that is insane and has a crazy drums solo.

Hearing everyone in their new place after the triangle swap I have to say this is probably the best trade since the Stars sent Iginla to Calgary for Nieuwendyk. Everybody wins. Eloy sounds absolutely amazing here. He has that super heavy stompy feel that suits them perfectly.
Praying so much for Slipknot to come to New Zealand in 2025 when they come down to Australia for Knotfest

On certain songs jeff (replaced craig) he does the percussion he also joins in on the other drumming to but on the snare and he done so in this vid but the drumming sounds different at the end imo 🤔 Idk if it just stands out more with clown and pfaff also doing them or if he does a different beat.
I loved the stuff that Jay did. But Eloy is next level. He definitely gives off Joey vibes. I can't wait to hear how this translates to an album.

hey Andrew, I have a good sugestion to you for Eloy stuff. React to him playing a solo at Rock in Rio 2011, for me it's his best ever.
By that time he was playing for the band called Gloria, from Brazil. This band sucked, it was booed the entire show, until his solo, than the crowd gave a big ovation and that year Sepultura called him to join the band, so the history was made.
You have to react to "Spit it out", he made an awesome groove in the second verse
