It's funny how people will dump $1K+ every year on games like 2K & Madden to upgrade their player with no complaint, even though those games have a one year life span. But yet Smite, a 10+ year old game, gets hate for actually trying to give long-time players something.
Well said. The fact that 2k makes their games literally unplayed online after 2 years is the definition of scummy, since your myplayer build(s) are linked to online you lose your myplayer build(s). So annoying they get away with it because there is no competition in basketball gaming world.
Sunk cost fallacy. The Skins are older and therefore have more time value than 2K/Madden. People should be allowed to be upset at losing their skins, they just shouldn't be unrealistic about it. I'd just leave it at a middle ground where both sides have their points but arguing won't change the reality of SMITE skins.
4:40 it’s technically better to buy cross gen skins from smite 1 still since you get legacy gems in smite 2 as a bonus, if you were thinking about buying a cross gen skin please buy from smite 1 as you’ll get way more value especially if you have the founders pack.
@@Inters3ct yeah also one thing you should mention at some point with the founders pack that i don't think i’ve seen you mention is that its even better value than before. Currently every time you level up you unlock a god but if you own all of them from the founders pack you get 100 gems for free every level up to level 50. That means for 30$ you don't only get the smite god ultimate god pack from the first for the same price but you get 35$ worth of diamonds and double legacy gems which can get crazy value with cross gen skins. You literally make your money back in the diamond currency plus 5$ if you buy the 30$ pack which is insane because the smite 1 30$ god pack was considered crazy value but you quite literally profit off the founders pack a crazy amount and still people manage to complain.
The healthiest way of seeing online purchases like this is to see them as buying an experience: When I buy a video game, I buy fun. And the way I judge whether it was a good buy is by looking at the amount of fun I got. If I bought a game for 60$, I expect to enjoy the game for at least 40 hours. If I buy it for 20, I expect at least 10 hours of fun. That way, if the game disappears/gets bad/dies, I still got my value. If you expect a digital, non physical product, to last forever, then you're just delusional. Even physical products will lose value and get thrown away after a set amount of time.
You have a good compass, but the only issue I find is equating dollar value to time spent. Games are getting to a point where the 30+ hour experiences is hurting the overall quality, think if the time spent is quality and I had a full meal at a crisp 9 hours that's money well spent, plus you get replay value, most things from Capcom clock you roughly 7-12 hours, and just one of those games are better than the three most current assassin's creeds combined.

At some point it's just entitlement. I've got over 930K legacy gems, and I'd rather have Smite 2 keeping the game alive over skins stuck in an outdated game w/ an outdated engine.

Hey I get your point. It's crazy, spending hard earn money for pixels xD. But smite 2 need lot of work and the engine sucks. Everyone knows major player base in smite runs mid to low end rigs. If you cannot optimize your game for such systems, no one is gonna hop on.

As someone who spent alot of money on Smite 1 gems over the past 10 years, the key is to only buy gems during gem sales. I don't think I have ever purchased a gem that wasn't on sale! And hi-rez does these sales like 8 times a year. Hopefully they will still have gem sales for Smite 2!
To be clear, I’m also not justifying or trying to convince it’s okay to be spending money at all on ANY love service game. By spending the money, you should view it as a donation to the company and that you don’t “own” it because the game be turned offline at any time. Be smart with your money. I view skins as a way of supporting the game and devs that make that game.
I have over 200K Legacy Gems, and I was stoked going into Smite 2 thinking I could cash ALL of of them in, not realizing they only shave the price of Diamond-priced stuff by half-off.

Without out a doubt, im going to presume that Hi-Rez will artifically hike up the prices of skins that can be bought with the "legacy skins" in order to reap maximum profit. Again this is me speculating but i HIGHLY doubt Hi-rez will be generous.
Nah, they basically made diamonds value be 50% worse than gems, meaning it takes twice as many diamonds compared to smites gems to get a skin. But when you buy diamonds you get twice the amount as you would gems. So basically you spend an equal amount of gems instead of having a true 50% off deal.
They really have no reason not to keep up their end of the deal here. The work is minimal, the good will is immeasurable, the community who actually wants to play smite 2 is satisfied and gets to actually use their massive stockpiles of legacy gems for something they either used to love, or never got to buy (like me with the hot dog odin skin). Like I get the fear of "company want money," but they still just don't make much money on any skin bought primarily with legacy gems fully, and won't for years. It makes much more sense that the keep porting the smite 1 skins at the low effort cost to improve good will, and make things like battle passes and new direct purchase skins people like that we can spend our dollars on. They'll make immediate money off of that.
Always how it's been since downloads became commonplace. You aren't paying for ownership of the game, you're paying for the ownership of a license to play the game which the company owns all rights to, along with use of their servers if applicable.
as someone that had a bit over 1k skins and almost all T5 skins and so, put alot of money into the game, my take on the Smite 2 skins drama is simple; i don't give a shit lmao the game is better and so are the visuals and since i barely used default skins in Smite 1, it's almost as if they're new for me and they all look amazing! people are crybabies that just want a reason to be angry at things, especially the "i have to buy the god pack again which is simply ridiculous" like.. man.. it's barely 30$.. for more than 10 years of value?!
The best part is the old skins are literally free for veterans who spent money on them. People are literally just mad they aren't getting new skins for free, because for some reason they deserve things for free now..? Lol
they honestly just need to do one or two "port skins" per patch going forward that can be bought 100% with legacy gems and further down the line port maybe one tier 5 a year. this would do a lot to regain goodwill and make people want to spend money in smite 2 cause aside from the gems you get for being founder i probably wont purchase anything else in smite 2 till i start seeing a real use for my legacy gems
Hot take, but I really haven't and still won't care if they port skins. After a while in the first game Skins became kinda bland and not really anything I cared about, perfering good recolors over actual skins. I will however like if they maybe ported 2 or so of the most popular Skins of each god and, despite probably not happening, the tier 5s from the 1st.

My big issue with this entire debate is that….they CLEARLY explained “hey this is why it has to be this way for these reasons”. Finally started playing 2 a bit after buying early access day one, I have over 400k legacy gems and I flat out understand we werent getting everything transfered over, I VERY much knew it wasnt a thing that was going to happen, and im more than happy to support Smite 2. Its a game that is trying to support itself and spending money is the way to do it. People comparing Smite 2 to OW2 is just insane to me. They have been pretty open about what was going on
The actual skin issue with smite 2 is the fact they are porting over the randmnoest of skins rather than the actual good stuff like the t5s. People's counter argument was dont u want cooler ue5 skins instead of old smite skins and the ue5 exclusive skins are overall mid and can't compare with the og t5s so yeah

The issue with the T5 skins is probably related to all their unique animation and transformation stuff. That all has to be redone from scratch. They already said that the reason why Scylla and Arthur weren’t one of the first 50 gods ported to smite 2 was all of their animation stuff made it harder to do right away so I’m guessing the t5 skins are just those issues but exacerbated.
if you told me that i couldn't ever have a single skin in a game but they would still provide content for years to come then i have ZERO ISSUES with that!

Idc about not getting all the skins I bought from smite one but I am kinda upset that not all of the crossgen skins haven’t transferred over like they said it would. Idk if I linked it wrong or if it’s not sync or something but the aphro izanami and other skins haven’t transferred over to smite 2 after they’ve been released to smite 2. Realistically it makes senses. They need to turn a profit to keep the lights on. Legacy purchases is a net loss for them since they put in work and get nothing in return. It'll probably be legacy-lite for the time being until things are up and running. A valid concern though.
One question I have is, when are they going to double our legacy gems? Since in Smite 1 it was saying that I would have 160k gems in Smite 2, but in Smite 2 I only have 80k at this moment. (I'm avoiding buying anything until they double my gems, as they might make a mistake and double the reduced value)
The only thing I'm really hurt to lose is the loading frames. Spent years grinding them. Would be a simple port too. The real issue for me is that the game feels too different.

I think something quite relevant and why I believe ascension passes should be legacy gem fully purchaseable is that they are locking the emotes which were always granted from favor behind these passes which we did all already "own" in smite 1 and more importantly there are not going to be that many avenues to spend these legacy gems for a while. I have 240,000 after doubling which is a lot but I don't think is anywhere near the highest amount people have. If I buy skins at 800gems 800diamonds each it would be 300 skins before I run out, Thats a very very very long way away especially with the Skin department being laid off. There need to be gem dumps for lower tier content which is exactly what the passes are. And when they finally get back into full swing have a full skin team and are making chests and events, I have a strong feeling that chests will be 100% diamonds with direct purchasable skins for the same 800-800 value or maybe even higher. I can't see smite2 chests being the value equivalent of 400gems 400diamonds to smite 1 for the 400gem chests, it would mean 40 chest rolls of the big chests with one purchase of the $99 diamond pack. Plus, the chest filler won't be smite1 beta garbage like solar sentinel Ra, dark lord wukong, and Stormbringer Zeus, it's going to be Blobmir and Slasher Loki very solid and nice skins and at the rate of 200gems in smite1 math that's way to good right? They're totally going to fuck us on chests in the future no way about it.

This is the best explaination ever. I love it. I hope people will understand Hi-Rez, unlike greedy mfer, don't rip you off, as long as you buy the $30 founders pack, which still gives you the equivalent of 2,500 gems in smite 1 if you get to level 50. People complain too much just to be toxic. They don't even bother doing their research. I understand being skeptical like I was, but do you research before forming an opinion.
My take is 3-5 years the game would be dead. What Smite 2 does is give developers a new canvas,new game modes can be implanted much easier. I have quite a bit of money tied up in Smite 1 myself so I understand the feeling, however the current game is at a dead end. I have a feeling by the time the game is actually out it will be different enough for most folks to be considered a sequel.
There's SO MUCH I've seen the devs cook up in Smite 1 over the years, really pushing their modded UE3 to its limits. And I know for sure, there a ton more things they would've wanted to make work but simply couldn't due to limitations. I imagine that Aladdin's Ultimate would've been impossible in Smite 1. I am beyond excited how much potential Smite 2 will open up for also Heimdallr's Ultimate. And I don't even play him that much lmao!
Is there a time limit for the founder's pack or can we buy it even after the full release of the game and keep the x2 gems ? I don't really care about playing this game rn since a lot of my fav gods arent in yet.

I don't really miss my Smite 1 skins, I'm enjoying Smite 2 all the same but if there is a skin I would like to see ported to Smite 2, it would be Mulan's Zen skin.
I would personally love to see community votes where every patch they take maybe 10 popular skins and people vote for which one or two get added that patch.

I was also under the idea that the highest teir founder’s pack unlocked the ascension tree for all the heroes. Is that just a mandela effect I’m experiencing, or what? 😂😂 I might be misremembering, it’s been so long since I purchased that thing, but I do remember something about ascension being apart of that pack.
I spent thousands on skins through the years on smite 1 but im excited for smite 2. A fresh start is what the game needed. I have no issues supporting a game i like playing by dropping disposable income on fun. Fortunately, im rich. I get some people aren't, but then dont spend money on a game...
I know eventually I’ll get my T5 Cthulhu skin. They ain’t gonna me dirty like that. They probably have plans to make some of them, and I bet that I’ll also be able to use the Angel of Chaos skin at some point, if they’re bringing some of the old skins over already, then those two are definitely going to be brought into the new one. Anyone else unable to use the batter up hercules skin? I have divine legacy complete and linked, even got the anubis skin i can use from it, but the herc one is locked for me and i see other people using it
I do kind of agree with this and hopefully at some point we get them, but the team have said they take months of many people working on them for 1 skin and if they're ported over for free they'll make no money on all that work so it will likely be when the game is more established and they have some cash flow from new skins coming in to afford doing that.
I have 1.2M legacy gems and I don’t care about my skins not porting over. And aside, I’m hopeful that they’re gonna port over fan favorites over time, anyway . Time heals all.
I bought skins specifically to put money in the pockets of people who delivered on an enjoyable product. That's it. It would have been cooler to have another QUALITY year of smite 1, but, getting Smite 2 is even better. Bought the base founder pack and plan on buying cool skins when my favorite characters drop in our new game. I'm actually playing Ymir and Athena after hating to play as and against each in S1

I'm fine with the way Gems and Diamonds work now. (Their initial release & announcement was scuffed.) But I only have 1 complaint left: Let us choose whether to use Legacy Gems when buying Skins in SMITE 2. The whole point of the Legacy Gems, is that we can use them, to buy SMITE 1 skins when they're released. But if you start buying SMITE 2 skins and other SMITE 2 content, you HAVE to use your SMITE 1 Legacy Gems. So when the SMITE 1 content finally does come out down the road, you won't have those Legacy Gems to use. From my understanding, it's best to just sit on the Legacy Gems until more SMITE 1 skins that I like are ported. But as of right now, I have to use those Legacy Gems to buy other stuff right now. I want the option to NOT use those Legacy Gems. I hope they add that in.
I'd like them to eventually port some of the simpler limited skins for those of us that had them. Executioner nemesis was my first limited skin. Nothing complicated about it. Also the mermaid medusa skin. On the other hand, it would be kind of scummy to not let new players get them. idk. Maybe they can have a limited variant and another variant people can buy..

I honestly don’t care about the skins, but I do think it’s time they leveled out the currency. I find it a little predatory, and always have, that you have to do math to figure out how much you’re spending, and what a skin’s value is. It’s not complicated math, but it does obscure how much money you’re actually spending on this game. I realize with them releasing the games in multiple countries, it can’t be a 1 to 1 value, but since the US Dollar is the global trade currency, it can be near 1 to 1 with the dollar. Other games have already done this & charge WAY more for their skins. People have displayed they have no issue paying upwards of $20+ for skins, as long as they look good, and the game is fun. I think that’s where HiRez is really getting backlash from, though players don’t realize it. The simple fact that the monetization scheme is incredibly obscure & that, again, comes off as extremely predatory.

3:38 Sorry but that's utter BS. Someone not buying the S2 founder's pack doesn't mean they didn't spend money on S1 gems. There is no excuse for the gem inflation. The founder's edition listing x2 legacy gems as a perk is also kinda a false advertisement since it makes you believe you get more, but in reality you gotta pay to get all the value from your gems back.

They've stated in an interview it takes months to make a T5 because it's always a part of an odyssey. They did say the T5's will come at some point. But they can't port it, they will need to completely remake every tier 5 skin.

Shouldn’t have to re buy the skins I’ve already bought ESPECIALLY when it’s not 1x1 swap they didn’t have to make gems less valuable and they didn’t have to add diamonds to again force you to spend more money. Smite 2 is a shinier smite 1 with the same problems. The price point isn’t the same because they gave me my gems back just to make me BUY diamonds which is literally doubling the cost of it. They told us we’d get the in game currency back and then did a wrap around to make them basically useless
You're not rebuying skins you already bought though. Legacy gems can pay entirely for old ported skins and if you spent a lot of money of SMITE 1 skins (which is seems like you did based on your anger about losing them), is spending $30 to get double legacy gems and have the entire money you spent over YEARS back really that bad? Also how is making you buy diamonds doubling the cost of anything? It's not double, it's half because you can pay half with legacy gems. Anything that requires diamonds is NEW content. If SMITE 2 never happened you wouldn't expect to get completely new SMITE 1 skins for free just because you bought other skins years ago, would you? Ngl I was one of the angry ones but I’m over it now. People compare it to COD and buying skins every year. It’s not even close to the same feeling for Smite only because imo It’s been a stand alone game for years no sequel and did I expect it to get one hell no. So when you find out all of sudden the sequel has been in the works you would automatically assume they’re porting over the skins. I would’ve at least liked for them to port the Tier 5s

A lot of gods got some pretty weak and forgettable skins over the past decade, I get everyone has their favorites but I really won't think twice about my past skins if every god gets 3-4 or so of their more popular ones over time
Imo, Smite needed to continue with the special events like trials of hercules and the loki one. I thought the roguelike dungeoncrawler version of smite was arguably more entertaining and enjoyable than the other original game modes like conquest or arena. I played the shit out of the hercules and loki events and completed everything there was to complete. Was wishing for years after hirez would add something like that again...never came and now I've moved onto new games probably never to come back to smite unless something like the trials is made standalone or added to the game for good.
So when it comes to this skin issue, I have to say quite clearly that I think it's a rip-off. Just look at the current event and the possible rewards you can get. All the drops from January 14th to 16th were things that you got for free as a founder or in the alpha in general or could already buy. And now you get everything again. The Odin Hotdog skin as an example. One or two weeks ago you could buy it with a stated 33% discount and now all of a sudden it's available for free. So that's not right.
I had an issue with smite not responding up to this day about me not getting my legacy gems due to an old account bug. Seemingly i cant get my gems because my name is occupied in smite 2. So long 2k worth of legacy gems. Their customer service is the worst in the world.
Hey, my issue with smite 2 is the engine and game optimization. I know it's still in beta and I sincerely hope the game improves when they fully release it. The game has some huge fps drops even on a decent rig ($1500). I tried different setting in game and outside but still the same prob. On smite 1 I have consistent 300 fps. FOR NOW SMITE 2 IS NOT FUN FOR ME. ( just my opinion I don't mean to be toxic yall)
I dont think the issue is losing all their skins, its that smite 2 literally has none lol. So cool, we lost out skins, no problem, but now I play a game with 0-1 skin a god? At least transfer 10ish of the smite 1 skins over for options
Doing that takes time and effort, they are focusing on the actual gameplay for now (so porting Smite 1 characters over) which I am hugely in favor of. It's not like they aren't going to make skins, it's where the game makes the vast majority of it's money.
The game isn't fully released, the updates will be focused on gameplay (you know, the thing you play). Cosmetics and vanity will come over time. Would you rather the beta slow to a crawl so they can prioritize whales buying outfits, or make a good game that you can play for free and worry about monetization later
I bought a founders pack to try the game and didn't like it then, so i refunded it. Now it's f2p, and I still have my double gems and says I own the founders pack in game so nobody tell hi rez.
off topic, but (this is with lack of info of how it will work in the future and better methods to unlock said gods. Plus I'm also missing an accurate number for the amount of time it takes) ; as a COMPLETE f2p player, the new player experience in terms of unlocking the newest gods is kinda of bad for people who don't plan to spend tons and tons of hours of the game. From what I know the only 2 ways to get the currency to unlock gods (diamonds) is dailies and mastery. The daily's aren't exactly the most amount of diamonds but they are good enough for dailies. But the mastery, dear god the mastery, it takes a lot of time and restricts the new player experience of playing the gods they'll unlock on the way by leveling up. Edit: WITH NEW KNOWLEDGE ON NEW GODS BEING PURCHASABLE WITH GOD TOKENS, (caps were on and I was autopiloting typing), I now think the way of unlocking gods is a lot more fair then i thought.
From the Smite 2 FAQs on their site: "In SMITE 2, every time you reach a new Account Level (Up to Level 50), you’ll get a God Token. You can spend that Token to unlock any God in the game, except for the most recently released update’s God."
The game is 30$, if you don't wanna pay that then you can grind. Ultimate God pack is you paying for the actual game. Otherwise any grinding is completely fair because (shocker) you are literally paying nothing.

I don't understand why you view 50% off NEW skins in SMITE 2 as useless but you would've been happy paying full price for new skins in SMITE 1 if this never happened.

The fact that the main problem people have with Smite2 is that Smite2 ISN'T trying to monetize them so much and bombard them with skins and purchases is wild. Smite1 was never an investment, it was a toy and you played with it and loved it until it broke and now that they are trying to make you a new toy you are crying and complaining about all the money you spent on the first toy and telling them that they not only need a new toy for you, but to fix the old one and to pay you for your hardship. Complaining about legacy gems at all is entitled and sad. Its a simple bonus that never needed to exist, never needed to be thought of, and never needs content added to even let you spend it in the future when they are not focusing on content (but they still did it cause they thought of you and their corporate overlords allowed them to give you crumbs). They could have taken the Overwatch2 approach and rerelease smite1 but wiped your accounts and made it 6 player conquest, only to revert to 5 player conquest and go into maintenance mode anyway or even start pumping Fortnite skins into the game.

Sunk cost fallacy. The Skins are older and therefore have more time value than 2K/Madden. People should be allowed to be upset at losing their skins, they just shouldn't be unrealistic about it. Currently every time you level up you unlock a god but if you own all of them from the founders pack you get 100 gems for free every level up to level 50. That means for 30$ you don't only get the smite god ultimate god pack from the first for the same price but you get 35$ worth of diamonds and double legacy gems which can get crazy value with cross gen skins. You literally make your money back in the diamond currency plus 5$ if you buy the 30$ pack which is insane because the smite 1 30$ god pack was considered crazy value but you quite literally profit off the founders pack a crazy amount and still people manage to complain.

The healthiest way of seeing online purchases like this is to see them as buying an experience:
When I buy a video game, I buy fun. And the way I judge whether it was a good buy is by looking at the amount of fun I got. If I bought a game for 60$, I expect to enjoy the game for at least 40 hours. If I buy it for 20, I expect at least 10 hours of fun. That way, if the game disappears/gets bad/dies, I still got my value.
If you expect a digital, non physical product, to last forever, then you're just delusional. Even physical products will lose value and get thrown away after a set amount of time.
You have a good compass, but the only issue I find is equating dollar value to time spent. Games are getting to a point where the 30+ hour experiences is hurting the overall quality, think if the time spent is quality and I had a full meal at a crisp 9 hours that's money well spent, plus you get replay value, most things from Capcom clock you roughly 7-12 hours, and just one of those games are better than the three most current assassin's creeds combined.

As someone who spent alot of money on Smite 1 gems over the past 10 years, the key is to only buy gems during gem sales. I don't think I have ever purchased a gem that wasn't on sale! And hi-rez does these sales like 8 times a year. Hopefully they will still have gem sales for Smite 2!
To be clear, I’m also not justifying or trying to convince it’s okay to be spending money at all on ANY love service game. By spending the money, you should view it as a donation to the company and that you don’t “own” it because the game be turned offline at any time.

I have over 200K Legacy Gems, and I was stoked going into Smite 2 thinking I could cash ALL of of them in, not realizing they only shave the price of Diamond-priced stuff by half-off.

Without out a doubt, im going to presume that Hi-Rez will artifically hike up the prices of skins that can be bought with the "legacy skins" in order to reap maximum profit. Again this is me speculating but i HIGHLY doubt Hi-rez will be generous.
Nah, they basically made diamonds value be 50% worse than gems, meaning it takes twice as many diamonds compared to smites gems to get a skin. But when you buy diamonds you get twice the amount as you would gems. So basically you spend an equal amount of gems instead of having a true 50% off deal.
They really have no reason not to keep up their end of the deal here. The work is minimal, the good will is immeasurable, the community who actually wants to play smite 2 is satisfied and gets to actually use their massive stockpiles of legacy gems for something they either used to love, or never got to buy (like me with the hot dog odin skin). Like I get the fear of "company want money," but they still just don't make much money on any skin bought primarily with legacy gems fully, and won't for years. It makes much more sense that the keep porting the smite 1 skins at the low effort cost to improve good will, and make things like battle passes and new direct purchase skins people like that we can spend our dollars on. They'll make immediate money off of that.

Hot take, but I really haven't and still won't care if they port skins. After a while in the first game Skins became kinda bland and not really anything I cared about, perfering good recolors over actual skins. I will however like if they maybe ported 2 or so of the most popular Skins of each god and, despite probably not happening, the tier 5s from the 1st.
My big issue with this entire debate is that….they CLEARLY explained “hey this is why it has to be this way for these reasons”. They are being as transparent as possible and people are still bitching. It doesn’t take a genius to realize “hey maybe devoting all those resources to remaking old skins probably isn’t a good idea”.
Finally started playing 2 a bit after buying early access day one, I have over 400k legacy gems and I flat out understand we werent getting everything transfered over, I VERY much knew it wasnt a thing that was going to happen, and im more than happy to support Smite 2. Its a game that is trying to support itself and spending money is the way to do it. People comparing Smite 2 to OW2 is just insane to me. They have been pretty open about what was going on
The actual skin issue with smite 2 is the fact they are porting over the randmnoest of skins rather than the actual good stuff like the t5s. People's counter argument was dont u want cooler ue5 skins instead of old smite skins and the ue5 exclusive skins are overall mid and can't compare with the og t5s so yeah
The issue with the T5 skins is probably related to all their unique animation and transformation stuff. That all has to be redone from scratch. They already said that the reason why Scylla and Arthur weren’t one of the first 50 gods ported to smite 2 was all of their animation stuff made it harder to do right away so I’m guessing the t5 skins are just those issues but exacerbated.

Idc about not getting all the skins I bought from smite one but I am kinda upset that not all of the crossgen skins haven’t transferred over like they said it would. Idk if I linked it wrong or if it’s not sync or something but the aphro izanami and other skins haven’t transferred over to smite 2 after they’ve been released to smite 2. Realistically it makes senses. They need to turn a profit to keep the lights on. Legacy purchases is a net loss for them since they put in work and get nothing in return. It'll probably be legacy-lite for the time being until things are up and running. A valid concern though.
One question I have is, when are they going to double our legacy gems? Since in Smite 1 it was saying that I would have 160k gems in Smite 2, but in Smite 2 I only have 80k at this moment. (I'm avoiding buying anything until they double my gems, as they might make a mistake and double the reduced value)
The only thing I'm really hurt to lose is the loading frames. Spent years grinding them. Would be a simple port too. The real issue for me is that the game feels too different.

I think something quite relevant and why I believe ascension passes should be legacy gem fully purchaseable is that they are locking the emotes which were always granted from favor behind these passes which we did all already "own" in smite 1 and more importantly there are not going to be that many avenues to spend these legacy gems for a while.
I have 240,000 after doubling which is a lot but I don't think is anywhere near the highest amount people have. If I buy skins at 800gems 800diamonds each it would be 300 skins before I run out, Thats a very very very long way away especially with the Skin department being laid off. There need to be gem dumps for lower tier content which is exactly what the passes are.
And when they finally get back into full swing have a full skin team and are making chests and events, I have a strong feeling that chests will be 100% diamonds with direct purchasable skins for the same 800-800 value or maybe even higher. I can't see smite2 chests being the value equivalent of 400gems 400diamonds to smite 1 for the 400gem chests, it would mean 40 chest rolls of the big chests with one purchase of the $99 diamond pack. Plus, the chest filler won't be smite1 beta garbage like solar sentinel Ra, dark lord wukong, and Stormbringer Zeus, it's going to be Blobmir and Slasher Loki very solid and nice skins and at the rate of 200gems in smite1 math that's way to good right? They're totally going to fuck us on chests in the future no way about it.
Emotes in ascension passes are on the Free Track, you WILL get them just by playing the god, no pass purchase necessary.
Hopefully the discussion ends after this vid 🙏 (it won't 😂). I think in a years time when the game gets even better those folks will finally see why they had to do this.

I hope people will understand Hi-Rez, unlike greedy mfer, don't rip you off, as long as you buy the $30 founders pack, which still gives you the equivalent of 2,500 gems in smite 1 if you get to level 50. People complain too much just to be toxic. They don't even bother doing their research. I understand being skeptical like I was, but do you research before forming an opinion.
There was absolutely no point in gems if diamonds will get in the way. Simple.
My take is 3-5 years the game would be dead. What Smite 2 does is give developers a new canvas,new game modes can be implanted much easier. I have quite a bit of money tied up in Smite 1 myself so I understand the feeling, however the current game is at a dead end. I have a feeling by the time the game is actually out it will be different enough for most folks to be considered a sequel.

There's SO MUCH I've seen the devs cook up in Smite 1 over the years, really pushing their modded UE3 to its limits. And I know for sure, there a ton more things they would've wanted to make work but simply couldn't due to limitations. I imagine that Aladdin's Ultimate would've been impossible in Smite 1.
I am beyond excited how much potential Smite 2 will open up for also Heimdallr's Ultimate. And I don't even play him that much lmao!

I do kind of agree with this and hopefully at some point we get them, but the team have said they take months of many people working on them for 1 skin and if they're ported over for free they'll make no money on all that work so it will likely be when the game is more established and they have some cash flow from new skins coming in to afford doing that.
When you get 10 lvl mastery - you get diamond for free open vault on another god, it’s really good way too
I have 1.2M legacy gems and I don’t care about my skins not porting over. And aside, I’m hopeful that they’re gonna port over fan favorites over time, anyway . Time heals all.
I bought skins specifically to put money in the pockets of people who delivered on an enjoyable product. That's it. It would have been cooler to have another QUALITY year of smite 1, but, getting Smite 2 is even better. Bought the base founder pack and plan on buying cool skins when my favorite characters drop in our new game.

Yeah I was a little skeptical and like whatever, but after hopping into smite 2 the ascension passes are pretty cool, and basically “free” to anyone with a lot of legacy gems
I'm fine with the way Gems and Diamonds work now. (Their initial release & announcement was scuffed.) But I only have 1 complaint left:
Let us choose whether to use Legacy Gems when buying Skins in SMITE 2. The whole point of the Legacy Gems, is that we can use them, to buy SMITE 1 skins when they're released. But if you start buying SMITE 2 skins and other SMITE 2 content, you HAVE to use your SMITE 1 Legacy Gems. So when the SMITE 1 content finally does come out down the road, you won't have those Legacy Gems to use.
From my understanding, it's best to just sit on the Legacy Gems until more SMITE 1 skins that I like are ported. But as of right now, I have to use those Legacy Gems to buy other stuff right now. I want the option to NOT use those Legacy Gems. I hope they add that in.
I'd like them to eventually port some of the simpler limited skins for those of us that had them. Executioner nemesis was my first limited skin. Nothing complicated about it. Also the mermaid medusa skin. On the other hand, it would be kind of scummy to not let new players get them. idk. Maybe they can have a limited variant and another variant people can buy..
I will still accept the L on my money lost but it doesn’t mean I have to like it.
I will still play smite 2 but the fact I don’t get my full value from my legacy gems is a bummer.
I also understand WHY. They still need to make money in smite 2.

I honestly don’t care about the skins, but I do think it’s time they leveled out the currency. I find it a little predatory, and always have, that you have to do math to figure out how much you’re spending, and what a skin’s value is. It’s not complicated math, but it does obscure how much money you’re actually spending on this game. I realize with them releasing the games in multiple countries, it can’t be a 1 to 1 value, but since the US Dollar is the global trade currency, it can be near 1 to 1 with the dollar.
Other games have already done this & charge WAY more for their skins. People have displayed they have no issue paying upwards of $20+ for skins, as long as they look good, and the game is fun. I think that’s where HiRez is really getting backlash from, though players don’t realize it. The simple fact that the monetization scheme is incredibly obscure & that, again, comes off as extremely predatory.

3:38 Sorry but that's utter BS. Someone not buying the S2 founder's pack doesn't mean they didn't spend money on S1 gems. There is no excuse for the gem inflation. The founder's edition listing x2 legacy gems as a perk is also kinda a false advertisement since it makes you believe you get more, but in reality you gotta pay to get all the value from your gems back.
I agree they're inflated and it is done in a bit of a sneaky way but ultimately they're just giving you less free money instead of no free money. Also what I mean at 3:38 is that if you spend hundreds on SMITE 1 (which if you're this mad about it, you probably did). You clearly have the funds to spend $30 on SMITE 2 and get the god pack + $35 worth of currency. Like, if this never happened would you seriously have questioned spending $30 on SMITE 1? Why is it different with SMITE 2?

I think it's a reasonable ask to ask them to bring over the T5 skins from smite 1. Even if it's only 1 or 2 per patch. Some people, including me, spent alot of money on those. I absolutely love my T5 Medusa skin in smite 1, and it's not in smite 2. Idk. What do u guys think?
They've stated in an interview it takes months to make a T5 because it's always a part of an odyssey. They did say the T5's will come at some point. But they can't port it, they will need to completely remake every tier 5 skin.

Shouldn’t have to re buy the skins I’ve already bought ESPECIALLY when it’s not 1x1 swap they didn’t have to make gems less valuable and they didn’t have to add diamonds to again force you to spend more money. Smite 2 is a shinier smite 1 with the same problems. The price point isn’t the same because they gave me my gems back just to make me BUY diamonds which is literally doubling the cost of it. They told us we’d get the in game currency back and then did a wrap around to make them basically useless
You're not rebuying skins you already bought though. Legacy gems can pay entirely for old ported skins and if you spent a lot of money of SMITE 1 skins (which is seems like you did based on your anger about losing them), is spending $30 to get double legacy gems and have the entire money you spent over YEARS back really that bad? Also how is making you buy diamonds doubling the cost of anything? It's not double, it's half because you can pay half with legacy gems. Anything that requires diamonds is NEW content. If SMITE 2 never happened you wouldn't expect to get completely new SMITE 1 skins for free just because you bought other skins years ago, would you? I understand the frustration at losing your old skins but you're massively exaggerating here.

they are very generous and didnt need to do this so i appreciate it but that being said, i will miss some the tier 5 skins lmao they were so cool looking and i cant wait to see what they can make t5 skins look like now. i also wish we had an option to use only the diamonds for purchases IF we wanted to save the legacy gems for purchases down the line.
Ngl I was one of the angry ones but I’m over it now. People compare it to COD and buying skins every year. It’s not even close to the same feeling for Smite only because imo It’s been a stand alone game for years no sequel and did I expect it to get one hell no. So when you find out all of sudden the sequel has been in the works you would automatically assume they’re porting over the skins. I would’ve at least liked for them to port the Tier 5s
They literally can't port skins, going from 3 to 5 doesn't allow it, they have to remake every single skin.

Cross Game battlepasses should also have cross progression between the games, should they not?
If you buy a battle pass in smite 1 you only have to grind it for the content in smite 1. You instantly get all of it in smite 2 once it releases.

A lot of gods got some pretty weak and forgettable skins over the past decade, I get everyone has their favorites but I really won't think twice about my past skins if every god gets 3-4 or so of their more popular ones over time
Imo, Smite needed to continue with the special events like trials of hercules and the loki one. I thought the roguelike dungeoncrawler version of smite was arguably more entertaining and enjoyable than the other original game modes like conquest or arena. I played the shit out of the hercules and loki events and completed everything there was to complete. Was wishing for years after hirez would add something like that again...never came and now I've moved onto new games probably never to come back to smite unless something like the trials is made standalone or added to the game for good.
So when it comes to this skin issue, I have to say quite clearly that I think it's a rip-off. Just look at the current event and the possible rewards you can get. All the drops from January 14th to 16th were things that you got for free as a founder or in the alpha in general or could already buy. And now you get everything again. The Odin Hotdog skin as an example. One or two weeks ago you could buy it with a stated 33% discount and now all of a sudden it's available for free. So that's not right.

I had an issue with smite not responding up to this day about me not getting my legacy gems due to an old account bug. Seemingly i cant get my gems because my name is occupied in smite 2. So long 2k worth of legacy gems.

Hey, my issue with smite 2 is the engine and game optimization. I know it's still in beta and I sincerely hope the game improves when they fully release it. The game has some huge fps drops even on a decent rig ($1500). I tried different setting in game and outside but still the same prob. On smite 1 I have consistent 300 fps. FOR NOW SMITE 2 IS NOT FUN FOR ME. ( just my opinion I don't mean to be toxic yall)
I dont think the issue is losing all their skins, its that smite 2 literally has none lol. So cool, we lost out skins, no problem, but now I play a game with 0-1 skin a god? At least transfer 10ish of the smite 1 skins over for options
Doing that takes time and effort, they are focusing on the actual gameplay for now (so porting Smite 1 characters over) which I am hugely in favor of. It's not like they aren't going to make skins, it's where the game makes the vast majority of it's money.
The game isn't fully released, the updates will be focused on gameplay (you know, the thing you play). Cosmetics and vanity will come over time. Would you rather the beta slow to a crawl so they can prioritize whales buying outfits, or make a good game that you can play for free and worry about monetization later

I bought a founders pack to try the game and didn't like it then, so i refunded it. Now it's f2p, and I still have my double gems and says I own the founders pack in game so nobody tell hi rez.
off topic, but (this is with lack of info of how it will work in the future and better methods to unlock said gods. Plus I'm also missing an accurate number for the amount of time it takes) ; as a COMPLETE f2p player, the new player experience in terms of unlocking the newest gods is kinda of bad for people who don't plan to spend tons and tons of hours of the game. From what I know the only 2 ways to get the currency to unlock gods (diamonds) is dailies and mastery. The daily's aren't exactly the most amount of diamonds but they are good enough for dailies. But the mastery, dear god the mastery, it takes a lot of time and restricts the new player experience of playing the gods they'll unlock on the way by leveling up.
Edit: WITH NEW KNOWLEDGE ON NEW GODS BEING PURCHASABLE WITH GOD TOKENS, (caps were on and I was autopiloting typing), I now think the way of unlocking gods is a lot more fair then i thought.

From the Smite 2 FAQs on their site: "In SMITE 2, every time you reach a new Account Level (Up to Level 50), you’ll get a God Token. You can spend that Token to unlock any God in the game, except for the most recently released update’s God."
The game is 30$, if you don't wanna pay that then you can grind. Ultimate God pack is you paying for the actual game. Otherwise any grinding is completely fair because (shocker) you are literally paying nothing.

Legacy gems dont have any value to them unless you spend more money. Its basically a trick to make you have to spend more on smite 2. Actually offer players some value to play smite 2
You dropped the first game to pursue a sequel, either accept your players arent going to drop everything and follow across for nothing or actually offer a reasonable trade for moving across.

The fact that the main problem people have with Smite2 is that Smite2 ISN'T trying to monetize them so much and bombard them with skins and purchases is wild. I don't even want to play with people who are only concerned about how a Free to Play game makes its money when CURRENTLY that game has stated multiple times that they want to limit that and focus on the gameplay and content right now.

Legacy Gems are not a scam, nor are they all that valuable. Give me an example of any other free to play game that did something similar between their sequels and how did that go for them? Smite1 was never an investment, it was a toy and you played with it and loved it until it broke and now that they are trying to make you a new toy you are crying and complaining about all the money you spent on the first toy and telling them that they not only need a new toy for you, but to fix the old one and to pay you for your hardship. Complaining about legacy gems at all is entitled and sad. Its a simple bonus that never needed to exist, never needed to be thought of, and never needs content added to even let you spend it in the future when they are not focusing on content (but they still did it cause they thought of you and their corporate overlords allowed them to give you crumbs). They could have taken the Overwatch2 approach and rerelease smite1 but wiped your accounts and made it 6 player conquest, only to revert to 5 player conquest and go into maintenance mode anyway or even start pumping Fortnite skins into the game.
