    Fascinating connection between shen and the subconscious mind, it seems a little harder to give a naturalistic account of chi, I believe it has something to do with the optimal functioning of the nervous system, but just like consciousness itself, I find it deeply mysterious.

    another gr8 lecture...CALLIGAPHY example brings to mind CHENG MAN CHING MASTER OF 5 EXCELLENCES one of the first to cross-over to wide western audience... I am mindful how you have helped me to beware the pitfall of OLD MAN TAI CHI.. I have fully extended my movements,muscles,bones,ligamints-sink chi to DAN TIEN but equally important RAISE CHI TO CROWN... using the principles of THE MASTER WHO WAS DISAPPEARED makes me feel more physically powerful and alive... THIS is the best explanation I ever heard regarding differentiation between YI and SHEN and how through practice yi can cultivate shen to employ in NEI GUNG... ... this subtle concept is impossible to express except by a person grounded in BOTH ORIENT AND OCCIEDNT such as yourself... Your example of giving to THE NEI GUNG COMMUNITY reminds me of a time when GIVING OF SELF was more common in my neighborhood... you must be grounded in confucian ethics because sadly too many nowadays only believe in GORDON GECKO " greed is good "
    - vaccine will be a long time coming... until then wear a mask, practice social distance, wash hands , cultivate mind, body, spirt... be thankful for blessings...be compassionate to those who suffer...thank you M.H.Y. a virtuous lecture

    Another very informative video my Sifu the late Kenny Gong used to walk up to me and every quietly say if you want to be good in the external, you must practice tan tui. So your explanation begins to help me understand better. He may have been referring to another aspect of my training not merely internal vs external style but the external side Of my practice ie fitness faster movement Jing etc
    Second I like the idea you mentioned about pushing into the center I like to think about my force breaking the back window with an imploding force
    So if strike to the north the force culminates with an south direction force in my opponents back.this seems to produce nice power very solid

    Thank you for another great video. Another funny popular explanation for Northern Legs Southern Fists is that southern China is more populated, the spaces in the cities tighter, so they didn’t have space for kicks. :)
    Let me also commend you for your attitude towards the whole COVID-19 situation. Too much negativism is promoted, leading too many people to believe in conspiracy theories and more depression. It is a challenging time, stressful sometimes, but a positive attitude will not only get you through and even let you take advantage of opportunities.
    Take care Laoshi!

      Hello Juan. population density has nothing to do with a style. People sometimes try to find an uncorrelated event in explaining of something else... Yes, we should keep a positive attitude at this moment and we will all go through it!

    Very insiteful discussion. Loved the Calligraphy demo. As an artist we leave elements open to space to allow the minds eye to fill in the gaps, complete the suggested edges into an empty space which is really never empty. One question. I would like to get a spear to begin training with. What size and type of wood would you recommend? Again, thank you for sharing your art with us.

    • @HaiYangChannel
      @HaiYangChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, great to know that you share the same feeling toward the empty area. Regarding your question about choosing a spear: you can start from a thin one and gradually change to a think cone. The material is called White Wax Wood. Bai Lai Shu in Chinese. Thanks.

    Is the « Yi » refered here the same as visceral entity « Yi » of water element in Chinese Medecine?

    • @HaiYangChannel
      @HaiYangChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, Yi in TCM is not water. it is Earth.

    • @poodlefilmstrailer
      @poodlefilmstrailer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, sorry I inverted it with Zhì. So the Yi of earth element of TCM is the same Yi you are discussing here?

      Can be understood as the same, but more precisely, Zhi means strong intention.

    There are lot of people researching the Wu Bei Zhi and saying that the author is unknown.
    It is strange to hear now that name now...

    • @HaiYangChannel
      @HaiYangChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The name is not a secret at all. But he is not the sole author, he complied others' documents and added his own writings. So, I have no idea why you feel strange here.
