- Markus and Emanuel are fishing for big halibut at Frovåg Havfiske in south of Senja, Norway. Marre, the camp manager, hook into a monster halibut which is the biggest halibut they have ever seen..!

I had halibut for the first time today.. I’m 59 yrs old and Finnish ancestry in the US .. I’ve had every other kind dang near.. but halibut is expensive here so I always passed on it.. but finally was intrigued enough to try it.. and it was excellent..

Det är svårt att veta hur pass bra fiskarna klarar sig, men det sker återfångster regelbundet. Så länge man inte lyfter upp dessa stora fiskar i båten brukar de klara sig rätt bra.

Yes you guys are true sports men were other halibut fishermen in alaska who bring there louisville slugger, sport fishermen with commercial licenses ??? you keep smaller fish and leave the monsters to keep the species laying eggs good job ... all the best ......
Do halibut eyes pop out when they are brought up from deep water?
No they don't. The halibut doesn't have any swim bladder, so it won't get affacted by the pressure.

Marre used a Hurricane Kveite 20-30 lbs rod and a Hurricane Aegir 400 reel.
@9.30 it's difficult to understand what your saying but the ugly fish looks like a Brosme in norwegian or Cusk in english

Yes, we noticed that. Maybe it have been caught before and not treated correctly?

Sometimes fish get that type of scoliosis due to nutrient defiency/starvation in youth.
I work with fish and have seen it happen a lot.

It's May the 15th, 2024 and as a non fisherman, can any experienced provide an estimate of that female's age? I'm glad they let her go because fish that large and old probably don't taste good. Also the fact that she has survived that long and can spawn more eggs..
That's a very hard question. A guess would be somewhere between 20-30 years old.
