- Great fight from a 228cm Halibut, approximately weight 160kg+
Crazy night of fishing, big halibuts, whales and the sea was totally calm.

Best part of this was that you returned this magnificent fish back to the depths, fantastic catch.
The females are the beast, while the males are much smaller. Always return the females for future fishing.

So why do you chase them in the first place?
@@workingdogbarney large halibut share habitat with small ones. dice roll if you get a 20lb specimen or a 200. hook a big one, get it up, get the hook out, get your pics and send it back.

I use a bft bluewater halibut from Cwc (perfect rod to fish with circle hook) and great combination with a Penn Fathom 25 reel

Although I love fishing, big fish have become a rarity - and that's why i didn't wanna finish watching it because they probably kept it 😢
You should see the end, we take good care of the fish and nicely release it
I don't know why everybody celebrates the release when there's a 40% chance of this great old fish dying within a week after release.
Just so you had your fun. Is that really worth it?
halibut release mortality is far lower than 40%. they arent marlin. better chance of it dying within a week due to being near the end of its natural lifespan considering its size than from being caught.
Probably a big female egg layer. Congrats to these ethical fishermen!

Great Sportfishing. Nice to see this huge fish coming back to its waters even if oversize. Halibut population is reducing and Big specimens are nowadays so rare. You made the right thing 👊😎🤙))

Er dette fang og slipp? Hva med kroken i munnen og kroken som kjøres gjennom underkjeven for å "fortøye" fisken til båten? Blir fisken løslatt med kroker både her og der? I så fall går den nok en langsom og smertefull død i møte. Får så inderlig vondt av disse stakkars dyrene.
Yeah that was the right thing to do take some pictures and release it it probably wasn't very good evening anyway it's better that it makes more halibut for everybody I like the ones under 150 lbs or less better eating nothing huge monsters
Yes we release everything over 130cm and sometimes don’t even take nothing home
