The structure of the house to me is fine. I love that huge room! HOWEVER, it totally needs to be renovated. If I had that type of money, I would purchase it for just over 1 million. That is for the land and scenery but I'll need at least 1 million to renovate.

Of course everyone starts in with gut job, renovate, etc. and a few decades from now, everyone will be bemoaning the fact that all the original features have been ripped out, just as with mid-century, arts and crafts, Victorians, etc. that everyone bemoans now. This is a perfect picture of the era. It’s a beautiful home that should be left alone, but alas, that won’t happen.

LOVE the house. Love the kitchen and bathrooms. Love the floor plan. Love all the wood. Love all the crooks and crannies. I would refinish the wood floors. And do some repairs. But otherwise, I love it as it is! I would have lots of house plants.

It"s beautiful. Too mny stairs for this ol" girl. I kind of like the dark kitchen -- I look better in the dark. I like the house really. It"s newer than my house! Great place for an Air B&B after it"s dressed up a bit.

I actually love the bones of this home...the height of the ceilings in some areas is a little troublesome and I would completely reimagine that kitchen/dining room/family room area but with a healthy reno budget this home would be amazing. Because of the lot, i would keep most of the wood tones, but there's ways to update that and still have it look modern. The primary bedroom - I would expand into that office room next to it and expand the bath. All the bathrooms would be upfitted, I'd remove all that laminate flooring and replace it with wood more consistent to what's going on with the rest of the home. And I'd work with a good designer to repurpose that big white room to look more like it's part of the home and not some event space rental. I also love that workroom off the garage and would keep that. Yes there's lots of changes to be made, but the good thing about the layout of the home is the space is easy to reimagine. I'd keep all the skylights cause I just love the light it brings in. I also like the brown color of the home shown in those flyers and would update the exterior to be that color cause I love homes that color set in wooded areas like this,

This home is not bad. Yes it was built in the 80s, but it has great potential. One thing I did not see was a fireplace. It seems like this is a summer or second home. It was built nicely. The sloping area , close off for storage. So much of this home is updating & cosmetic. I would relocate the laundry in the living space. The large area, media and family room. It’s a nice home . Yes , dated but great condition and potential . Now, the price is a bit higher. To get the price, update and stage. And I don’t think this house is about color it would be decorated in a desirable vacation getaway decor. Thanks for the showing.

The first thing replace the roof. I would put in new appliances and resurface the floors. The cabinets will stay but the doors would be replaced. I would sand blast the exterior to make it a few shades lighter for a earthly light brown look. Last I would redo all the bathrooms and take a look at the HVAC system. My biggest fear would be termites.

It doesn’t feel like a family home at all, more like a group meeting space, camp or something like that? Seems like It would take an architect to figure out how to reconfigure it if you ever wanted to make it suitable for family living.

A lot of conversation about the interior of the house, goodness me at today's prices I am thinking of the cost of a replacement roof, exterior painting, upkeep and or power wash the many exterior decks. Property taxes and price of the home at resale are based on square footage, for a potential buyer an assessor would have to come out and measure all of the liveable square footage minus non-liveable areas, i.e. garage and correct the records for this house. A very costly investment plus maintenance. I am thinking of the heating and cooling cost plus adequate insulation. It appears only one heating and cooling system for this size home. My home was built in 1969 and others in my development around 1970's with similar bathroom fixtures. I would have to pass this up even if I could afford which I cannot. Taxes, maintenance and annual treatment of interior wood (just like wooden furniture) would be a night mare. Love the video.

  • @OhhTooMuch
    @OhhTooMuch 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I agree with most of the comments the update cost is probably just as much as the price.
I would take down most of the walls and lighten the color. I also agree with you that the kitchen and all bathrooms need renovated.
I wouldn’t buy unless I had a lot of lute, lol
The wooded area and large space is nice

  • @LDSW
    @LDSW 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

The person or company that buys that house will need to work with an architect to determine the true livable square footage and whether (or how) to reconfigure the interior layout of this property. The property looks like it's a complete gut job...or at least needs to be one. And yes...What I'm seeing in the fixtures and cabinetry screams mid-1970s to mid- to late-1980s. With mortgage rates being what they are today, I cannot imagine what the renovation of the property will cost at hard money rates.
With all that wood, though, I'm surprised about not coming across "sawdust-like" evidence of insect damage from termites or carpenter ants.

Hahaha The Brady Bunch is not the 80s 😂😂😂 I think the house is beautiful and someone with money and personality can make it a home without gutting it. We tend to devalue aged property even if it is maintained well. I wish I could find me a property that is over 100 years that has been maintained and secured historical landmark status.

Completely agree with you - pretty location. And the architecture is great. And honestly, although it's outdated, you can tell that it was very well maintained! That is OLD carpet but it looked like it was in great condition. If money and time were no object, I'd love to restore and renovate that place. Well, just like the "core" house area. I don't understand all those additional areas.
Edited to add, my goodness that building just kept going and going! What was that property used for!?!

I actually like this house a lot. Either you have a big family, or renting out rooms. I’d add ballet bars to the big ‘event’ room and get a dance teacher to rent it out lol. I’d have to build a circular driveway to drop off the students. It is easily done. Two or 3 of the rooms look like a mother-in-law set up or grammas movin in. You could rent those out. It needs a pool for that price, or swim pond-organic and perfect in the woods. Or as someone said -summer camp! For that though, you NEED the pool or pond. I would also, replace that laminate-ugh-match the WOOD floors. Quite a lot of cosmetics and bucketfuls of paint!!! I love wood but you’re right; I would leave the beams natural paint boards in between white or cream to lighten it up. Gasp-I CAN’T believe even I said that I’m blaspheming honestly lmao! Love ALL those windows but again update the glass if not good especially those sliders with the film from gas inserted. Argon? 🤷‍♀️lastly too high in price coz up to couple mil to redo all I said. Without pool or pond less. That box ‘I’m leaving it alone’ was the part of camera system looks like lol-🎶I always feel like somebody’s watchin me🎶😝🙏🏻🧐

This house reminds me of an old camp site with all that wood. It has nice space but needs a reno job. Those retro bathrooms😂wow! It's in good condition considering the style. I'd like to meet the people who lived there. I wouldn't be surprise that in 20 years designers and builders start pulling from the 70's style. Things have a way of coming back. It would take a lot of money to renovate that house. Maybe an investor will take up the challenge. Kids can have a roller skate party in that basement. I don't think that house is worth that price. If I had the money to invest, I would change the ceiling color and renovate the bathrooms and kitchen. I'd finish all unfinished areas in the basement. I would bring in a land scaper who can give it curb appeal and a flower garden with a green house. I'd have a patio area as well. I'd change out all light fixtures. I'd put vinyl siding on entire outside.

  • @sisterelizee2722

I would keep the wood 99% as is. I would wrap some of the post and beam construction in wood so that it looks more homogenous. I am a fan of the heavy wood features. I would only pressure wash and seal the exterior. Why paint that gorgeous wood siding? In the end, I would consult an interior decorator/designer to help me make the most of its mid-century modern look while blending it with modern comforts. Also, a designer would help me decide on what to do with those big and small empty spaces.

I believe that house is older than 1980. Maybe 1960's? I saw houses like this in the DC area in the 1960's. Those bathrooms are pre-1975. The kitchen maybe 1980. That house looks like it was thrown together. Spec house? It looks to need all the windows replacing, and it's unlikely more insulation can be applied to the outside walls. Cheap doors. That's not even high quality wood, the upstairs floor is mismatched for the wood tone, those carpets should have been ripped out years ago. The most important feature is the site: the trees are fabulous, and the street quiet.
Some child is going to fall down those stairs.
That electric box high on the wall is a router.
The garage wing is an addition.

A lot of homes in great falls and potomac that are built during that time look like that. Most homeowners renovate before listing to make it a bit more modern. Everything in this home seems to be the original stuck in time down to the doors. Usually they replace the bathroom kitchen, doors and paint over the wood.

This home may not be a total gut job for fans of this era of home but it does need work for a better flow. Problem is, it WILL cost as much to fix it as it does to buy it. I love wood but that is too much wood. I would say keep some of the wood as accents to the home but wood does attract a lot of dust and that would be too much dusting. The person with the right sized wallet and a the right architect could do a lot with this home. It might even be possible to separate it so there would be enough room for a family and a rental. I heard you say what they were asking but I bet if someone came in with cash for maybe a million and a half, the sellers would let the property go. It would be a sweet property for someone but even renovated it would be too much house for me.

It's a very unique house! It has a sound structure except for the ceilings which are very low. Needs a lot of cosmetic changes (carpet, sinks, toilets, paint) and the kitchen and bathrooms needs a complete redo! Too bad they didn't switch the odd room with the low ceiling and beams with the large room. The odd room seems like it could be an office or a workout room. So much space! It's almost like a maze walking through it. I would reconfigure some rooms, reno the kitchen, bathrooms and some of the rooms in the basement. It has enough space to add more bedrooms, a wine cellar, entertainment/ game room and a theater room. I wouldn't buy it for 2.3 Mil because it needs too much work! But it has a beautiful and peaceful backyard which I would create an outdoor kitchen/dining and entertainment area with a hot tub. 😊

I love your content, hope to get my first home next year. I have a weird question and I’m sure you have been asked this before, but have you ever felt like a house you were viewing may have been haunted or had a weird vibe?

This house looks like it was built in the 60’s the late 70’s had gold and green into very early 80’s. The house needs to be modernized greatly. It is so dark omg. It screams 60’s, it’s going to take a lot to remodel this house whatever the price is they may have to drop it a lot. It can be look beautiful and it was great back in the day 😊

Yeah. I’m not feeling this house at all! Too many project needed to “undate” it. Love the neighborhood though.

This house is not worth $2M. MAAAAAYbe $1.5. Someone else mentioned a camp and I'd love to make this some type of retreat or sunmer camp. The flow is horrible to make it a personal home.

I like the concept of this house, but there is a LOT going on. The asking price is way too much for a fixer upper. It will definitely have to be totally renovated. I would love to see this house after the renovation.

They need to drop the price and accept that this will be a tear down. It would be too expensive to fully renovate. It’s just a lot of bleak wasted space and the materials seem cheap. To me, it is hideous, gloomy and uncomfortable. Love the location, though :)

Way overpriced in my opinion because it needs to be completely renovated from the studs and foundation up, probably roof too. I'm sure there are plenty of electrical and plumbing issues as well. No thanks.

The house needs updated bathrooms a kitchen. Remove the carpeting and curtains. Remove the interior glass wall in the entrance and it a $1.5 million house that will sell less than 30 days.

A gut job. For the bathrooms and the kitchen, definitely a paint job for the entire house. If they drop off a million and a half the house for sale. Still confused about the downstairs dance hall

As you have said, that house needs to be fully updated and I would probably make it a house for an event place. And the house is really choppy.

If it weren't for the location, location, location, this hodge-podge of a house would never come anywhere close to it being sold at its asking price. When one takes into consideration the cost of updates, renovation & architectural consultation, the outcome may well be a total investment kissing $4M. The roofing also looks questionable...cha-ching. How sound is the 40+ year old wood siding? Especially surrounded by so many shade trees, whose damp can permeate wood structures. That is not even taking into consideration the poor use of space & the unfinished appearance of many of the rooms. Having worked in interior design for years in N. Virginia, unless the client was hellbent on turning this into a coveted gem, I would steer them as far away from this house as possible.
