Is it really challenging to install window tint on Golfs?. I've been turned down by two installers so far because they said its hard to tint windows on these cars.
Yes we have used it. It's like any other tool... You use it correctly and it will save you so much time, you don't use it correctly it will do damage. I use them for old vinyl graphics. It does make a big mess.
Looking at tinting the windshield on my ‘20 GLI. The shop I go to said my car could be risky if water seeps in the dash. Possibly an important computer in there?
Yes they could damage the rear defroster by using a razor blade. If there is old tint on the car and you ask them to remove it, they should tell you there is a chance the rear defrosters could come off.... in that case, it's not the shops fault.
Would love to hear CAP's thoughts on this, as well. The interior sunroof cover for the GTI has small holes and still let's light (and heat) into the cabin. There are comments on the VW boards about NOT tinting your sunroof because the tint traps heat and can lead to sunroof glass shattering. Thoughts on that, CAP's??
I was going to put a 5% film on mine, but we ran out of time. If you want to see out of it use a light film like air 80 or Statos 70. This will block a lot of heat and still allow you to see out of it. I was going to put 5% to get the maximum heat rejection and I really don't care about seeing out of it because I can just open it up if I wanted.
I’m looking in to getting a clear uv tint all around on my golf mk7,I’m in uk and the companies here are asking a lot of money to do it,you know of any companies doing pre cut uv protection tint for this car,if it’s pre cut I think I can do it myself
I had my MK 7.5 E golf tinted and he has to literally cut the side seals off as he said otherwise he could not get the tint in behind. Even with that lame ass excuse there are still gaps in the tint in the bottom corners as the guy installing said he couldn’t get it in there? Is that true or has he just pulled the wool over my eyes?
When you use the heat gun on the tint, do you have to apply any lubricant to the outside of the hint to make squeegee-ing the heated tint conform to the curve of the window easier?

If you pop the weather strip off the outside of the front doors, you can use a piece of acrylic to pop the window out. Just makes it a little easier to fit film contamination free. Hope this helps guys.

I would not recommend it. Window tint is not something that is learned in a weekend.

I bought a BMW with a bad tinted job back in the day and used oven cleaner to remove the adhesive...I'm sure it's not a proper method but it worked

Can a shop destroy the rear defroster? If so are they liable? I need my rear window re tinted under warrantee at a local chicago shop.

Nope, we just use a hard card.

That would not make it any easier.
@@ChicagoAutoPros I dont tint windows but I am a auto body tec and can take most door windows out in 3-5 mins start to finish.
@@kingofkings2934 Very nice, well then there is your answer it takes about 10 seconds to pull back the top of the door panel and pull out the seal.

It's harder than it looks. Don't waste your time and money trying to do it yourself
