#20 - Clearing Out an Old Well & Restoring the Beautiful Stone at Our House in Central Portugal

- Michael's week seemed jam-packed this week! Not only did he finish removing the render on the side wall of the house but he also cleared out the area around our old stone water well. It's such a beautiful feature and the stone walls and well look amazing. All that's left to do is some stones/bark chippings to keep the area tidy. Any thoughts on which would look better?
He also makes a start on the front of the house which is going to make some huge changes here at Casa das Parreirinhas!
Thanks as always for watching and please like, share, and subscribe!

Wow the before and after on the wall is night and day. Looking absolutely beautiful. You work like a Trojan and so professionally ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅
Thank so much 💛💛💛 it is amazing the difference it makes!
The stone walls are beautiful. What a shame it was all covered up. They will be stunning when properly pointed.👍
Thank you so much! 💛
I have to smile when I see the cat's face, it looks really annoyed in a funny way.😂
She's an absolute diva 🤣💛
I watch a dozen or so YTubers in Portugal but your property is far and away the most beautiful. And becoming more so with each video. You are a joy to watch.
What a lovely thing to say. Thank you so much 💛
Your house is going to look amazing. I absolutely love the look of the stone walls.
Thank you so much 😍
Good afternoon from Rio de Janeiro Brazil.I love the stones in the house.Hugs
Thank you so much ❤️ bejinhos!
Build a nice heavy duty wood platform. Attach an old cast iron pump to it. Decorate with cool old buckets barrels. Baskets of flowers maybe some old tools done! Bam!
LOVE this idea 🥰 thank you! We actually have some really old well pots in storage!
well done .....great job you doing ..i feel tired just watching you 💪👋
😅 thanks so much!
Great to see the stone walls as they should look.
A lot of hard manual work but sure was worth it, love it.
You could try and lower a big magnet on a rope down that well to retrieve your tool, who knows what else you pull up 😂
Thanks so much 😊
Haha! Yes, good idea!
Amazing job💯💯💯💯💯 love everything in your property ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Greetings from a Portuguese from Lisbon, Isabelinha.
Muito obrigada!! 💛💛💛💛💛
Michael’s tea mug is definitely another character in your videos 😁
Always! We've just run out of tea bags though so it's out of action until the next delivery! 🤣
Wow, what a difference, job well done and it looks amazing.👍
Thanks so much 😊
Love your work ethic, you’ve uncovered so much, looks beautiful 👌
Thank you so much 😊
Brilliant job😊
Thanks so much! ❤️
Just arrived ! You have a beautiful + interesting site. I looked at some of your earlier videos today, you have come a long way. What a lovely house hiding under all that dreadful concrete render. 👍
Thank you so much - that means a lot! 💛
Everyone, SUBSCRIBE, LIKE AND SHARE. IT WILL HELP THE TH-cam ALGORITHM AND HELP LET OTHERS SHARE THIS FABULOUS HOME RENO ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅
Oh thanks so much. Really does mean a lot to us 🥰
You are coming on fabulously! What a difference getting rid of the render makes. The well area is looking great too. If it was me I would go with membrane and a thick layer of gravel. You can always powerwash the general dirt accumulation off it and it looks good for years whereas bark degrades very quickly and you will find yourself having to redo it every year. Bark also depletes nitrogen in the soil underneath it. But whatever you choose I am sure it will look fab as its a lovely area. :)
Thank you so much! You're right 😊 will definitely think about that! Have a lovely weekend 💛
Interesting that they covered up that beautiful stone wall! I’ve seen other crews removing render and any unwanted mortar relatively gently and with care using a power drill with a chisel attachment. Might save your arm and some time to complete the project around all the walls. Was thinking some rough slate crazy paving might look nice as a small terrace around the well if you’re looking for ideas.
Thanks so much. Good idea on the tool. I (Becci) definitely struggle after a few hours 😊 and nice thought with paving too!! Thanks again.
Your wrists and arms must be aching Sir!!! That masonry is hard hard labor! And so much strain on muscles. But it now looks wonderful. By the way….the pump idea, you could match colors with window colors when you’re ready to paint.
Fabulous. Thank you 💛
Много романтично място!
Thank you so much 💛
Addressing the issues around the well seems to be a part of the restoration of property.
I agree! It's all part of the end vision 😍
Your channel is definitely a source of inspiration. I like the fact that you give yourself the time to "understand" the house and its surrounding. Working with hand tools helps also giving more time to define potential next steps. After three house renovations (not fully on my own), I measure the work load invested in such a project. For sure one of my three podium channels!
Thank you so much, that means a lot! It's really important to us that we enjoy the process and nice to know people get that 🥰
Incatevole! Ottimo lavoro!
Grazie mille! 😊
Wall is great hard work but worth it
Thanks so much 😊
The compost seems to be on top of an old water channel? Great progress 🙌🏼
Thank you! There's water drainage for the land around it. We might have to move it (the compost pile) once we've got all the drains clear 😊
Good chance if you were to further dig that well out, you would discover amazing treasures from the past. Especially 1800’s bottles. Just saying. 😜😳
I did empty a bit of it and found a few terracotta pots! There's a drainage tunnel running off it that is probably full of treasures though... 👀
It looks so much better and the more you clean up the more gets uncovered. The well area looks very different already, I don't think all of it comes across on the camera either.👍❤
Thank you. It's amazing what a difference it's making. We love it 💛
Magnet fishing comes to mind to retrieve your tool
🤣 great idea!!
♥️😊🇧🇪
☺️💛
Maybe it would be helpful to power wash both the house wall and the stone wall out of the dirt and debry. Less manual work.
Thank you 😊 I think we'll definitely do this when we've got most of the render off.
That was a lot of work, it sure looks nice!
Thank you so much 😊
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless you guys, good work 👍😁
Thanks so much 💛💛💛
Could you get a large magnet to retrieve your digging tool? Just a suggestion.
Great idea 😊 thank you!
Merci! So interesting about the leaves... I'll have to try 😋
We think the stones are all dug out from the land the houses are built on ☺️
Hi that’s got to be the most boring job I feel so sorry for you what a lots you have had to remove soon be finished take care Christine 😊
Thank you 😊
While Your vlog is very enjoyable to watch., you may consider turning the volume up. The first video I watched I could hardly hear you I fIigured then that making these things has a learning curve ,and you'ii get it right eventually...but now it's getting a bit annoying. So turn it up, please.....
Thanks so much for watching and for letting me know. I thought we'd improved on this but I'll be sure to turn it up next week 😊 I've been adding subtitles manually too if that helps.
Yes I also had trouble hearing it
@@PortugalonaPostcard The subtitles generated by TH-cam don't take your english accents into consideration with often hilarious results and annoying that I have to translate constantly so I turned them off!
I added the subtitles manually myself this week and last week 😊 but I will definitely look at sound for next week! Thanks again.
