Just wanted to say that as a lover of tropical/tiki drinks your channel is the absolute best! This + Tropical Standard have made this hell-summer in Texas so much more bearable!
My intention is usually to make only good cocktails but every now and then it just doesn't work. I say usually because sometime in the next couple weeks will be a truly terrible one and I knew that going into it.
I have that book. The picture makes it look so good. After reading the instructions I figured doing 2 different blender batches was too troublesome. I was thinking as you were making this, oh no I might have to do it now. Thanks for taking one for the team and letting us know we can skip it. I loved the intro scene by the way and my Make and Drink glasses came today! Cheers to you and your continuing success!
That intro though! Love it! Dreams of a flash blender. And the Tito's and Blue Curacao in the closet. The Giffard Orgeat, lol. 😅 But can someone please help Woody out?
What a hilarious opening! Woody, Giffard orgeat, vodka, blue curaçao (yuck!)- inventive, whimsical, thoughtful. I also caught, "Rosie's, of course"- ha! And the conclusion- well, that was "un-Derek-like". I would have expected a few recommended changes and improvements. But maybe you just can't fix an orange juice cocktail? Loving the channel, always look forward to the next video.
The first thing I thought when you added the shaved ice was it was going to over dilute it. I hoping to be wrong on that one, for your sake! Great video as always! Cheers
Man, the blender reminiscing the good old times was fantastic. DED Related to your ideal Mai Tai and the dive into Curaçao, have you tried Hamilton Petite Shrubb?
This just got deep! I have not had the Hamilton Petite Shrub on it's own. I've had the opportunity to get a bottle twice recently and keep passing. So many orange liqueurs, so little time.
@@makeanddrink I just picked up a bottle from our favorite bottle shop and I have to say that it is pretty good. They were out of JM Shrubb except for 50ml sample bottles so I got one of those as well to taste against. I just haven’t gotten around to actually tasting them side by side yet… maybe later today.
Thanks Derek! I’ve been on the fence with getting an ice shaver. I figured it could be a good way to use the bevy of cocktail syrups I’ve made that may otherwise go bad. Do you recommend it?
I do like the one in the video. It's about $50 on Amazon and solid construction. I'd definitely recommend it to the $20-30 plastic ones which I also tested. For cocktails, I'd still rather invest in nugget ice (video on that coming soon) but the shaved ice does work well for snow cones and using those syrups in other ways... especially if there are kids around.
Wait that was actually an awesome intro that we definitely didn't deserve hahah

Wow, thank you!
Daaamn, the shade on Pierre Ferrand's XD A good callback to your last Mai Tai episode.
Nah, I grew up on orange Gatorade. Nothing but love!
"Welcome to Make And Drink. I make questionably balanced tiki drinks so you don't have to."
Your channel is TH-cam’s undisputed champ by a country mile
Thank you!
Love that you do videos on cocktails you don’t love and are honest about them and how to improve. Drink making is a process. Cheers!

Ahahaha loved the touch with Woody:)
Your backbar is always beautiful. Home bar goals 💯

Sick burn on PF Dry Curaçao

Thank you!

Sometime it just aint fixable

Thanks Derek. I've been wondering about this drink ever since I saw it on the classic menu you have showed in previous episodes.

Also, the Woody doll in there being an obvious call to inanimate objects possessing memory and having experiences.
This just got deep!

It’s about time you brought that bad boy back! 151 helps always.
Poor Woody! Hahaha

The Andy doll in the closet is such a cute touch.
Toy Story 4 vibes
Us grenadine must have much more artificial colour, because when I make it with European high grade grenadine, the red part looks like a light pink
Rose’s is all artificial and no real pomegranate. In California, it’s even sold will a “Caner and Reproductive Harm” label.
Good stuff.
Use?
thank you!
@@makeanddrink I read it out to myself far too many times! 😅
