Hi all, thanks for the support on the video. To clear some things up, regardless of how or why the dog was loose, it put me and my horse in danger, luckily, my horse is very patient and did not harm the dog. Second, i trotted off straight away to 1) get away from the situation and 2) there was a car behind me (that I almost ended up on the bonnet of because of the dog making my horse back up) and I didnt want to hold up traffic.
    Thanks again :)

clearly this is a wonderful horse but i am curious what would happen if your horse did kick a dog? i definitely don't want that to happen but it would be a shame if you or the horse got in trouble because the dog owner didn't control their animal when you do

In all fairness modern day dog owners do not take responsibility, but they're really good at making excuses. I would say that goes for probably 80% of them. I would like to see more sweet old dogs get adopted instead of the Pitbull mentality running rampant. Regardless of what someone adopts, train it. Loose dogs are usually nuisance, end of story.. it's easy to tell the people on here who are very biased and dog only because they do not take responsibility, everyone else is supposed to work around them and their dog.. it's getting epidemic and it's ridiculous.

If I horses, trained horses and even backed horses for several decades, I complete agree this boy is extremely well behaved. Any horse would react to a dog coming over like that, whether the dog wanted to play or attack, the horse is a prey animal and its instinct is to escape a predator, which is what a dog is.. I've seen dogs being kicked in the head and being instantly killed by a horse because it was off lead around a horse.
So yes, this horse is well behaved and the rider thanking drivers that slowed or stopped to pass is great too.

Totally agree...Unfortunately some people don't think or don't care. We have had this happen down the road giving plenty of room way on the grassy side.. a two-lane road and people will go by and throw their trash and their bottles out right there where you are riding not a mile before not a mile after but they think it's funny to throw things at where the horses are. I don't know what's wrong with people anymore.. and... people who are strictly dog people will never understand this, no matter what a dog does, to them it's okay or an excuse, an aggressive dog is an aggressive dog, end of story. First rule of thumb no dogs under the horse's feet/hooves or never around the arena and never in the Stalls.

At first I was kinda confused as to why someone would ride around in the middle of a town, but when you see how well behaved and desensitized this horse is to it all, it does kinda make sense. Both for the horses mind and the riders overal safety in the long run. The more your horse is used to things that could be scary, the safer it is.
Which is shown in the way the horse handled the dog.

i almost got attacked by two dogs somebody let run free around their neighborhood when i was visiting my dad in illinois. i managed to get away from them without being injured but it was terrifying- never, EVER let your dogs run free without supervision, and if you have a dog you cannot physically control, you shouldn't have that dog. in this case, it seems the dog had a lead but got away from the owner(s), they should not have such an aggressive dog if they are unable to prevent it from running off.

It seems like the guy with the border collie let the dog go so she could run at her other owner (the woman walking a bit in front of them). This is so dangerous if you have a reactive dog or if your dog doesn't listen to you whenever. I live in Canada in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and surprised a wolverine while riding on an old logging road. Wolverines can be exceedingly nasty and this one was. It snarled and leapt forward and I thought for sure my horse was going to get a nasty bite. I also thought my horse would shy away or leap back but I guess after all the years of riding in the mountains and encountering other wild life that he wasn’t to worried. Instead he lifted up his front foot and clunked the wolverine in the head with his hoof which sent the wolverine back into the bush a short ways. It just sat there and growled after that hit and we trotted off. Anyway, something to be said for calm well trained horses. Your horse handles the road and vehicles really well. Mine isn’t fond of vehicles at all but then we don’t ride around them much. With the exception of some country roads horses aren’t allowed on the roads here.

❤ What a great horse you have! Definitely not a plod but nice and forward going. Brings back some beautiful memories. Actually I’m tearing up a bit 😭💔 I became very unwell and my illness has progressed to the point where I’m wheelchair reliant and mostly housebound and bedridden. Unless there’s a miracle or a medical cure there’s no hope of improvement sadly. It was lovely watching your video just the familiar sounds of hooves and the wonderful creaking of leather. Total bliss! And your horse is clearly a very happy boy. Loved watching him snacking along the way just those little things that brought me memories. Thanks for sharing your video. Yes I was fortunate enough to live on a small island when I was involved with horses and of course I started mucking out etc and learned to ride when I was still at primary school. I’m 51 now so it was a while ago. But I continued to ride through the years. Back then drivers were considerate and roads were very quiet unless it was the holiday seasons when the trekking centre was busy and the place was full of tourist’s. I had the joy of keeping my favourite horse from autumn to late spring and I had a great time. The place you’re riding is more built up. But when I left the island I experienced similar issues with drivers coming way too close from up behind me and hitting 60 or more! It’s shocking! I haven’t had the nightmare dog situation that you experienced. Absolutely shocking! Like I say you have a great horse there and you were able to hold him nicely and calmly. Well done! I don’t think I would have been so calm as you. The bridle paths were interesting and certainly far from boring. You could tell that your horse was enjoying himself. Oh my gosh the bus was shocking! Unbelievable

The woman scolding the guy for dropping the leash and letting the dog loose was priceless. However, the fact that neither of them thought to apologize was just disgusting. Their dog came in totally aggressive and hard, and they're lucky that horse was extremely sold or things could have ended so much worse. OMG.

Where's the GoPro hack I missed it? Oh wait...I think hack means something different in your country, which I assume is England. In the USA a hack is like a trick or tip on how to do something better or overcome a problem. Amazing how most of your videos have just a few thousand views and this one got 233,000 views. Maybe it's because of the word GoPro being in the title?

I can imagine, wolfs would not just come up to horses like this either, their instinct tells them to stay clear from horses legs. Sadly many dogs just don't seem to have this instinct anymore and just go bonkers, I think it's due to inbreeding and not having enough experience with other dogs and animals as a pup

@ana-bk8kp Even so, owners should be able to recall their dogs! Not just for other's safety, but for the dog's as well! Teaching recall could save that dog's life in many situations!

@@ana-bk8kp That's awesome! I also have my 4 trained to recall. I grew up around dogs and have had them all my life. I've seen so many dogs be hurt or end up euthanized because of incidents that could've been prevented just by teaching recall. Especially that one video of the dog who attacked the horse pulling a carriage! I don't quite remember if he passed or not, but I know he was really hurt.

@@LadyKhaosTheDisorderedWitch it’s sad that they do happen and a lot can be tho my sisters dog is trained off lead but she only has off lead when nones around at all because he was abused by his last owner and was chained up and watched as owner got new one and just left him chained small so for his safety and others when another animal is near he’s on lead but she only takes him on places that wouldn’t have enough room for like horses and riders to go for off lead just in case and he can be good with other dogs and do recall off lead fine but if he feels he can’t get away on lead he will bark if dog is too close but he wouldn’t bite

Man sieht auch immer mehr wie Reiter, mit Kamera ausreiten, müsst ihr ja auch bei den Hundeangriffen. 😱Ich hab schon ein anderes Video gesehen, wo sie auch von Hunden angegriffen wurden. If you can’t contain and maintain an animal then you shouldn’t own it! My neighbors have problems letting there dogs wander too without either leashes or fences and knowing me in a car could easily pose a danger. But I will not be held responsible if a dog lunged out at my vehicle it’s the owner’s responsibility to contain there pet.
