    Thanks for this. I agree with MrEltel1962 about you making a meal of the model designations. Made it way harder than you needed to. Does the XC's 21" front wheel make much difference to the XR's 19" as far as road handling is concerned in this model?

    It was fun to watch but I miss the time when you had an Africa Twin and that was all, no versions. It reminds me of a Spanish saying: Para todos cafe! (coffee for everyone). Anyway it's a great bike this Tiger.

    Models aren´t confusing, they identify the finishing spec of each bike to easily identify the model you want depending on needs and budget. If they were all called the same then you´d have to go over the extras list like KTM of BMW. This guy would make wiping his bum sound complicated.
    For me this is the best bike you can buy. Great all rounder with an amazing engine. Beats the GS by a mile in build quality and riding fun.

      I have to say that I agree with you. After 30plus years of BMW buying i'm now on my second explorer and yes it's heavy but it does go really well and the finish is streets ahead of the the last few GS's i owned. Put it this way, if i had to ride from tongue to southampton i would choose the triumph. Smooth and quick with all day comfort

    I don't get it. "Bike is too heavy and too short for off road." "I want 30 liters of fuel sloshing around 4' in the air."
    What I want to know is if they still have heat issues. Pretty sure it was this publication that listed that as a problem with the previous gen of this model.

    What's wrong or confusing about having 4 different road models? That's a good thing!!

    • @busterrabbit
      @busterrabbit 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Except beyond spoked wheels the "off-road" models aren't even adapted for off-road; no extra suspension travel, bigger front wheel or fuel tank. They're all too bloody heavy for off-road anyway.

    I get why you compare it to the GS mainly but mentioning other competitors in comparison would have made it so much more interesting. I miss the mentioning of the KTM SA S and/or the Multistrada...

  • @mikestewart7322
    @mikestewart7322 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Agree with John, if Triumph really meant the XCA to be a direct competitor for the GS adv , surely long travel suspension and a longer range 30 lt tank would be a must. It would be interest to ask Triumph why these were omitted, and why you can’t have a knobbly tyre option factory fitted or dealer fitted. I don’t think they could give a tangible reason therefore that’s a big oversight on their part that may impact on sales. Watch out next year when they upgrade this new bike and add all these items. How pissed off will you be if you’ve just lobbed out the thick end of £17k on a model without them. BMW will include TFT screens as standard on next years bikes(18/19 my).

  • @nickyd2913
    @nickyd2913 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Don’t get the weight debate around adv bikes.
    You can either ride the bike or you can’t !
    If you feel the bike is to big and heavy then buy a smaller one. Or take a course at a off-road school. Most brands actually have their own nowadays. Or touratech.
    Saying a adv bike is to big and heavy is getting really old since it is totally subjective.
    To me it’s like saying a sportbike is to fast and has to much hp.

    It's funny when car companies have a 1000 different model designations for the same car, no one bats an eye. But when a bike company does it everyone loses their minds.

    Nice one Triumph, remove the naming confusion with new confusion >_< Who the hell, has got times to go through all those electronic options when riding. And well done for pricing out of most people's pockets.

    • @cpuuk
      @cpuuk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If innovation is 20x permutations on the ride options, I'll pass. What they are selling is a new iPhone and by that I mean it doesn't do anything the previous model didn't already do, but hey, lets dangle some more computer options to give the customer something do at the traffic lights and put a couple of grand on the price. And it's not just Triumph, it's all the manufacturers now making the same basic bike (chassis, engine, suspension) and dressing it up in a different top hat and tails and electronic options.

    Had a late 15' 1200..too top heavy..and doesn't have the balance or brakes for a bike this heavy..best thing I can say about it is it stands up to winter really well..but so does the BM..I'll keep my GS..Also if they put a 30l tank on this bike your talking 300kg+..makes GSA look like a Cub50

  • @Jungleland33

    Really? If you are thinking about spending this much on a bike you should probably do a bit of research, it's not exactly an impulse buy is it. Take 10mins and figure out what model and trim you need/want and never think about those letters again, it's not worth 5+mins of moaning.

      Stop saying bullshit, please. The older model was called Triumpg Tiger Explorer.

    • @Armour783
      @Armour783 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sigh. You apparently don't know your Triumph history. Allow me to educate you. The Tiger name has a long history which I won't rehash here - you can do a google search yourself if you care. I'll only deal with the recent history.
      2007 Triumph reintroduces the Tiger 1050 as a sport model - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triumph_Tiger_1050
      2010 Triumph introduces the Tiger 800 as an on/off road model - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triumph_Tiger_800
      End of 2011 Triumph introduces the Explorer. Everyone (even myself) including a lot of journalists, immediately call it the "Tiger" Explorer because that's essentially what it is, a bigger Tiger 800. But OFFICIALLY Triumph never once refered to it as a Tiger.
      Here are a few videos when the bike first debuted with the bike being identified correctly:
      th-cam.com/video/h8CDgPGDHTI/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/WrgHWy2IK2U/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/kRBctHefwWQ/w-d-xo.html
      2018 Triumph introduces new versions of the Tiger 800 and Explorer, now referring to the Explorer as the Tiger 1200, and dropping the Explorer moniker.
      Do a google image search and please find a picture of the 2012-2017 Triumph Explorer that has the word Tiger anywhere on it. I'll wait...

    • @BestRex
      @BestRex 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Looool. Here's on official Triumph's web page of an older pre-2018 Tiger Explorer: www.triumphmotorcycles.co.uk/motorcycles/adventure-and-touring/tiger/2018/tiger-explorer
      As you can see, it clearly says Tiger Explorer. It was always a "Tiger Explorer" - it was never just "Explorer" (except in your dreams). So, yeah, go educate yourself - maybe then you'll stop making a fool of yourself on public ;)

    • @Armour783
      @Armour783 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The link you provided is literally a link to the NEW 2018 Tiger Explorer, moron. Plus that's the UK site. I was referring only to the US. I don't know how it was referred to in the rest of the world.

    • @BestRex
      @BestRex 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lol, what kind of stupid hillbilly are you? Open the damn link and see for yourself that it's a link for an OLD Tiger Explorer.
      And of course it's a link to the UK site: Triumph is a UK manufacturer. Nobody cares how you called this bike in the hillbilly 'Murica.

    Typical staged, unnatural and editorial-style review. I prefer casual and owner reviews with low-quality helmet cam and mike over the super-bright studio lighting, repetitive staged and "state of art" camera showing the guy doing slowmotion cornering.

    • @F4UZ3R
      @F4UZ3R 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Big T I would!...last July I rode 2000km in 4 days over Romanian mountains on a GS1200 MY17, last day of riding I was vibrating as much as the boxter engine LOL. I don't want to go extremely off-road, and I'm too big for touring bikes (I'm 6ft2). So adv touring are great fit for me. After riding a MY17 explorer, I was in love 3 cylinder was perfect for great position, and power delivery. Summer 18 I'll be buying one

    • @BestRex
      @BestRex 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Go for Honda VFR1200X Crosstourer DCT instead. It doesn't have as much electronic bells and whisthles as Triump or a BMW, but other than that, it's a great bike. V4 engine is awesome - it's much better than the BMW's vibropposite and Triumph's inline 3 with no torque. And DCT transmission is a true gem: clearly the best gearbox currently existing in biking.
      And, unlike BMW or Triumph, Honda's reliability is superb. On a Crosstourer forums there are couple of guys who switched from Triumph Tiger Explorers to Crosstourers because they tired of their Triumphs breaking all the time. Now they're on Hondas, and the are perfectly happy with it.

    • @triv7252
      @triv7252 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree the Hoinda is the better bike - it doesn't cruise control though am I right?

    • @BestRex
      @BestRex 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, Crosstourer does not have cruise control - that's correct. But there is a guy who designed and now selling electronic cruise control blocks specially for VFR1200F and VFR1200X Crosstourer. So anyone can buy it and install on their Hondas to have a proper electronic cruise control on their bikes.

    • @triv7252
      @triv7252 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      to be honest, not having cruise control is not a deal breaker to me. I had it on my 2015 Explorer and hardly used it.

    • @johnrocker2986
      @johnrocker2986 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm in my 60's fella, most of the guys I have attended too are way past 50, normally their accidents are to fast in a straight line then panic breaking while entering a bend or corner. As you said, trying! to ride the "arse" of a bike, shame is the bikes are better than them. When are old giffers going to realise they ain't got it any more. Stay at home keep statistics down and watch Blankety Blank.
      PS I have eight bikes, so what?
