The catholic church's anti-condoms campaigns are clearly ludicrous, but they are also clearly not theological in nature. Jesus himself called the pharisees hypocrites for similar silliness; they had elevated social traditions and cultural values as sacrements, and were appalled that Jesus and his disciples were not following their contrived rituals and observances. But Jesus pointed out that their puritanical views were one sided, self-serving, and even defied the word of god.
