Watch the BBC first on iPlayer 👉 bbc.in/iPlayer... More about the programme: www.bbc.co.uk/p...
It's the second episode of the second series and there's the usual mix of contributors, reviews and jokes as the news channels continue to provide enough rubbish to make a show out of.
#bbc

This was actually shown to us in a journalism class as an example of how to format a news package. Still refer to it from time to time lol
Same. It's definitely a prime example of a quality package :)
I did wonder why I keep seeing lighthouse keepers getting decapitated by laser beams in the news
Haha same
thats very grim.
@@CatgirlNixon hahaha, a class on how to manipulate people better

*that's the joke*
@@zacharybohlman4069 *thats the joke*
That's my first boss! Yes, really!
Still one of my favorite takedowns of news media pretension.
This. Is. Gold.
Oh yeah? What are your other favourites?
The irony is that everyone who goes on about this video being incredible satire are themselves pretentious.
Thanks Christian
@@colin-campbell oh god where does it end
This is a TH-cam comment written as a response to this spoof/deconstruction of news reports. It's supposed to be witty in the hopes of getting lots of thumbs-ups.
+WarpRulez lame, one-liner joke related to a new fad that most of people here never heard.
+lioshenka A terse and gratuitous ad hominem insult to the original poster without relevance to anything.
no
+rjnagle reply several months later attempting to restart the argument by insulting some sort of minority
This is an aggressive, yet moronic 12 year old who disagrees with the wording of your comment, which I thought implied you disagreed with my opinions.
A non-English speaker would be hard pressed to spot the difference since everything except the actual words is an exact replica of most news stories. Well, until the lightsaber beheading, which may raise some eyebrows.
You are right. But also the visual language of news varies slightly in different countries. This is a quintessential British news reporting. In US the visuals are more in your face, everything is visually screaming and it almost always includes arguing pundits, here in Czech republic the visual language is more stiff, less dynamic.
@@Posiman true, here in the Philippines are news literally has better graphics than our TV shows. Most epic music, most epic opening Billboard, you wouldn't even know you're watching the news until it's actually started
Aye, here in Denmark we don't use lightsabers, we use axes.
But other than that and the fact that the language didn't sound made up, this was spot on.
Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful videos on youtube
I'm glad my Media Studies teacher played this video in class.
if you don't concentrate, you mistake it for a real news.
That, my freind, is true.
It's just news.
A sentiment shared by the majority of America.
wait what lmao this was actually released by BBC. lol
Makes me gain faith in humanity 😂
The BBC can't be faulted for their ability to mock themselves - take W1A. If you've not seen it, it's all about a bunch of basically well-meaning but ultimately overpaid BBC executives who don't really do that much and are kind of incompetent.
*W1A
Cheers for that, edited :D
Better than the actual product its mocking.
0:51 Vox pops of members of the general public saying how much they hate vox pops of members of the general public. Pure, unfiltered, cask-strength GENIUS.
"A series of lazy and pointless vox pops" - Bahahaha!
The fact that this is still relevant 12 years later in 2022, means that news media really hasn't evolved in that time.
It would probably appear to be devolving if you analysed it through time, such as the last few years and all of the madness with Trump, Brexit and whatnot.
Why would it? It has worked wonders for them, why change the recipe...
Brilliant, but I really want to hear more about that pipe out the window.
4 years late with this but that looks like a temporary aircon unit. Most buildings in the UK don't have aircon so businesses rent them if there's a heatwave.
@@notdaveschannel9843 You're just blowing out hot air
Not Dave's Channel cue news reporter saying "more on this story, as it develops"
Almost certainly a maths lab
The fact this was released by the BBC is gold. They have a good sense of humor.
It's just jelous BBC Four punching up at supreme BBC One.
If you think this is gold, you should check out W1A. The BBC fully taking the piss out of itself and holding nothing back

Oh... I'm glad it's not just me that keeps coming back!
That Regent Street wordplay is the greatest thing I've ever heard
I'm dumb, I don't get it.
Word play that is fit for a King, a 'Regents Treat'. Its extremely clever as it's about the report signing off from a location, here being 'Regent Street', and incorporating a dry pun like reporters usually do in these segments. Shit was fire, yo. Multi-layered fire.
Instructions unclear. Still dumb.
I'd place it third after "She's black and she's got a beret" and "This was the one thing we didn't want to happen". But that's just because I'm sore that it took me a decade to figure it out.
@@nidebau "Regent Street" sounds like "regent's treat".
This is a comment from someone who doesn't understand how time works and feels the need to ask if anyone is watching this video in the current year.
Anyone else make a regular pilgrimage back to this video, every year?
Yes. This and REASONS TO BE FEARFUL '14.
Just saw that and oh my God is it amazing@@richardconnold8060
That matrix joke, just killed me. Literally. I became a ghost just to comment on this video.
Haha! Lol!
darkevilazn RIP
You forgot to show the pictures of some random kid, preferably their school photo or a family picture, then red-shift it. Then for some inane reason, talk to the kid's mother, even if she just as qualified as that letter-opening guy
Charlie Brooker, the writer of Black Mirror, an incredible insightful mind
I love how it’s the BBC posting this and that my media production teacher showed us this video in our journalism unit.
Charlie Brooker: Brutally mocks how the news is reported
Journalism classes: WRITE THAT DOWN WRITE THAT DOWN
A youtube comment failing to understand this is satire
PhilipOMeara LOL
If I had a quid for every time I've been shown this in a journalism lecture
You'd have two quid?
I keep watching this, years later. Still genius. Well done, Charlie Brooker and team.
@Joe Honestly... Not really, because I haven't watched video-format news in almost as many years so the humor doesn't land anymore. (I subscribe to the online versions of a couple national newspapers, and visit the local TV news station's website--but don't watch their clips). So looking back on this now I think it's a solid parody of an earlier era. Even a decade ago it was more nostalgia than current criticism. I'm at the old end of millennial so I remember the local and TV news being on at home but it's not how I get my news now. I have no idea if news is still like this!
I am a University Professor (teach media literacy) and yeah we share this with students... Its accurate and funny.... it shows the formula.
Like he's gliding through the the fu@&£ng matrix!! Lol ha
This got shown in my English class about a week ago
It got shown?
+Scott Adler yeah
What exactly was it's purpose in class?
Zyro_Gaming IN MY CLASS TODAY LMAO
This was shown in my Media Studies class just today lol.
hasn't changed 11 years later 🤣
I needed to watch this video twice, because my brain is already programmed to ignore all kinds of news, until I realized what is he saying I was 1,3 minutes in the video so I needed to re-watch, and concentrate that my brain don't wander off, this kind of constant reporting, over and over again, made me completely ignorant, because I don't expect to hear nothing life changing, it became just one more story in the news no one can't or won't do nothing about! And is the same in all the countries around the world! Thank you Newswipe for pointing this out!
I saw this years ago. Just now my wife was watching some news story and wondering why it was showing meaningless visuals and I was able to find this video again and show it to her.
The monochrome facts bit killed me!
This is a comment about how enraged I think of said news report and my moot opinion on what I think matters most to myself and thus society as a whole. "CAPITAL LETTERS IN QUOTATION MARKS" to get my point across.
This was and still is brilliant and timeless, it's always true and deconstructs the production of news with hilarious self-awareness.
You think this shit is funny? I think it's the most depressing thing ever.
well, why not both? :D @@anarchy_79
Why don't we have more people like Charlie Brooker in the US? This is amazing.
I need to show this to my professor. He is making us use a similar format for our reporting project due Monday. It is formulaic and makes people more attention deficient than they are now. I don't want to add to the trend. It's madness!
Don't know if I'm being relevant after two years, but check out "Academy Award Winning Movie Trailer" :D
@@zelnidav And after that, check out “How to Make a Blockbuster Movie Trailer”.
Oh, and don't forget to watch the "This is definitely not spam" video.
The Regent Street line had me dying.
Isn't the BBC guilty of this themselves?
Yes it's their format they're mostly mocking.
You don’t see much of dowdy kitchen man anymore
EVERY time I make the mistake of watching TV news I get reminded of this gem 😁. 2021 & still up to date. Well done Mr. Charlie!!
Dowdy Kitchen Man deserved a bit more airtime
It's just news.
This was played in my Media Studies lesson. Me and my freind Stefan laughed our asses off!
We were shown this clip in my journalism class and the accuracy of this video amuses me so much. I laugh every time.
Yeah, how could anyone dislike this. Its an amazing parody and Mr Brooker is a damn genius in his delivery!
Posing a question, What are those?
I can't believe this is the guy who made Black Mirror
Why?
I LOVE YOU!!! I DOOOOO!!!!!!! OOOOH!!!! I SEE YOU DRIVING AROUND TOWN WITH THE GIRL I LOVE AND i'M LIKE, FORGET YOU!!!! Look I'm not proud of this joke but someone had to make it for some reason that I'm not sure of.
"I don't want some punter's opinion"
Still here in 2020. One of the best shows created.
This is a classic.
This... was lovely. Absolutely brilliant. Good show. :)
What about about the obligatory false balance, challenging the Establishment's science with a comment from a leading astrologer or homeopath, or David Icke??
How does this only have 2 million views? Absolute comic genius.
"A regent's treat".
Masterclass.
Can Charlie do no wrong?
This clip is genius. Played it several times when I recorded it first time round!
the bbc taking the piss out of their own news reports is the best thing ever
This is exactly what it is like in Australia
Comment lampooning a normative behavior of TH-cam users, with a self-serving subtext that overtly screams, "Look, I'm being clever!"
"Some dowdy man opening letters in a kitchen" is brilliant - great video!
It's just news. It's just news.
Funny vid! xD I'm from Germany and our broadcaster-News (at least the private ones) does have the exact same pattern :P
5 Stars!
This is possibly the best thing on TV. What I love about Charlie Brooker is that he echos opinions I have always had but articulates them in a way I would never have thought of.
Oh, and Gameswipe was superb!
forgot to mention using library GVs for when the director/cameraman spent to long at lunch to get the shots, oh and crap archive clip that looks so out of place because they dont want to pay for a better one
This is still one of the most clever things I've seen in a long time
This could be a wry comment on the video but more likely a direct quote from it even though the reader will have just heard it for themselves just 15 seconds ago

I love newswipe. Good share thanks.
Here's a script:"I've been teaching you guys for a few months now, and you are probably the most mature class I've ever taught (restrain desire to sink laughing and weeping into your swivel-chair), so I think you can manage this. I would appreciate if nobody told their parents. Jimmy, Nora, set up a perimeter and warn me if any other staff cross line-of-sight; Fred, hold these cymbals and crash 'em when I point at you. Screw up, and I will make you reconstruct these shots from RGB mosaic tiles."
Strong message here
I got the Corbyn reference, don't worry. Some on youtube are above 15.
Even this parody is better than most American TV news
I had the honor working with the BBC thank you
Pure genius.
Brooker is brilliant, this, Gameswipe, and So Wrong It's Right, he would be close to comedy Midas if it wasn't for that horseshit zombie movie he made, that was pure pish.

Bwa-ha-ha-ha. LOL is overused, but no joke, I'm laughing out loud here. This is genius. Monty Python couldn't have done it any better.
It's just news, it's just news, packaged in the same familiar way, helping to convince us we can do nothing to influence events. Spot on, Charlie.
I got shown this is in Journalism class in 2014. Still so accurate and still so funny. I come every now and then to have a laugh at this almost ten years on
