I've been looking for this game for ages. Tried typing in sumo driver/crash pit etc into google and had no luck. I've just gone through wikipedia and looked at every racing game ever made and finally found it just now...Made up is an understatement haha
so interesting to see how logos of companies looked back in the day, and the progression of these companies - ubisoft goes from street racer to ghost recon future soldier...
I'm curious, does anyone know if this game runs at 60fps on SNES, or is it running in a lower framerate than normal for these systems because of all the stuff it's doing at once, particularly once it gets into the 4 player split-screen mode?
SO the african Zulu racer in the Rhino car is the Quickest character in the game , here's why , if you use his Rhino boost and you time it so he drives into a speed bump the Rhino will go on a stampede Boost 500% times the normal speed for 5 to 10 seconds , thats how you always win , other racers who have a speed boost feature have a similar effect but not as Easy to pull off as the Zulu racer :)
I know this game took the mario kart formula but I see tracks that look similar to bangkok rush (especially in the saturn version), sydney sprint, wario stadium, luigi's mansion and what looks like a carbon copy of luigi circuit for super circuit w out the rain but it's got the same background. all dating before those mario kart tracks. this had to be inspiration.
They said Genesis Does What Nintendo'nt... But this version looks much better than Genesis Version.. All these years I never tried SNES Version, my whole life was a lie...
indeed it was megadrive vs the NES not SNES ,snes came out then sega shat themselves and went downhill ever since ,saturn was shit all the megadrive addons were shit and dreamcast was too early too untrusted
A friend lent me the cartridge when I was a teenager. I had trouble playing it, it was spinning too much and I wanted to vomit. Now I think I can play it.
I had this I did enjoy playing it but that's because I only had a super Nintendo and I really loved Mario Kart but unfortunately this didn't take off as well as it could have done
I still have this game to this day, though I rarely played it. The graphics are awesome, though the game itself is a bit bland. The Rumble mode is really fun.
Absolutely not true. I know, as I produced the game. :) You are all welcome to read all the juicy development and design secrets of all my games in my book. Thanks for keeping the retro love alive. 🙏
The major problem I have with this game is I can't really see any of the icons or power ups or whatever they are on the track until I basically run over them so I can't use any real strategy or anything. First, I think there are waaay too many of them. The whole track is just absolutely littered with stuff that I have no idea what it is. Second, they're also at a really low resolution or something, much lower than they seem in games like F-Zero and Mario Kart, which makes it even harder to see them. It's just a bit of terrible design with a game that otherwise looks like it could be pretty cool.
Has nobody ever wondered how they pulled off mode 7 with multiple scrolling backgrounds all atonce on snes??? Because for what i know is that the snes could only do one thing or the other, it’s either multi scrolling background or a single layer background, wich depends per video mode, My theory is that or they use 3 background layer(mode 1) and used mode 7 trough software or vice versa, Or they used mode 7 along with line scrolling and sprite layers to mimmick such amezing multiple graphical mode effect. Mmm??
Those snes graphical limitations are not for the whole screen at once, but per scanline. In this game, ~30% of the scanlines are set to mode 7, the rest are some other mode, probably 1 or 2. And this concept is not about limitations only, generally all the graphics are thought as per scanline.
If you could turn off basically all the items and icons on the track, which you really can't even see anyway, then this would be cool game. With that though, I just find it annoying because I can't see any of the stuff.
(Could be typing into a void of years-long comments here but...) A lot of comments here saying that this (i.e SNES) version is better (if they played it) or looks better (if they didn't) than the Mega Drive/Genesis version. There was also a Playstation version (I can understand why it wouldn't get much discussion, it being from a more advanced console; but I don't see any mention at all) which was the best (it was almost a a different game entirely, TBF). The SNES version had the best Royal Rumble (think it was just called "Rumble" mode), though; and the Mega Drive was definitely the weakest in that area.
I love Raphael, Biff and Helmut. It looks like there's more to them than their appearance. The others are kind of throw away characters being too one dimensional looking (a sumo, a primitive african, Frankenstein monster, the dumb blonde, meh). The battle mode is outstanding, I take it over Mario Kart's anyday. As for the soccer mode, it's original but a mess I never enjoyed.
its just mario kart with other character sprites and the almost the same scenarios. genesis version is actually the best... best musics and much more FRENÉTICO
yeh so the speed BUMPS or road bumps Can trigger a Hidden effect if you use the 1 of the 2 attacks they have , iv tried most of em , some hare hard to pull off but most of em have a hidden effect when its used close to a speed bump they need to Hit the bump after 1 second or 2 seconds depending on the character , zulu 's Rhino car is the easiest to perform these effects with , so thats why he is the BEST racer imo
Guy Incognito I wouldn't say Virtual Bart.... SNES has worse stages and missing animation (along with frame drops). As with the OG comment, I disagree. Sure the Mega Drive version might be a valiant effort (unlike the godawful Amiga version), but the SNES got its hardware pushed far better than the Mega Drive version.
James Earl Cash TWO in a million, like the guy above stated as well.what can i say,i don't follow the herd,i follow my own taste.i'll leave the sheeps to their own games
Used to play Rumble more than all the other modes when I was a kid, haha. Great time!
Same
Who else loves the main theme for this game?
The Great Gamer // Est. 2016 the snes theme sounds so good
Definitely
One of the games that made my Childhood! :)
Classic. The SNES version was better.
this game and version took my childhood, never looked back its still awesome
This game was awesome with 4 players, one of the few games that supports the multitap
I used to play this all the time as a kid!
Hodja was my favourite!
Loved this game, been trying to find out what it was for ages. All I could remember was a couple of the characters
I just randomly remembered this game, seemed like some crazy fever dream, I googled "racing game with sumo wrestler"
@@captainsternn7684 hehe i googled with my favorite character "racing game with frankenstein" 😁🧟♂️

One of my favorite racing games of all time, with a badass soundtrack to boot.
so interesting to see how logos of companies looked back in the day, and the progression of these companies - ubisoft goes from street racer to ghost recon future soldier...

A mix of Super Mario Kart and F-ZERO. That's great!
The background of the tracks looks like Super Circuit but the layout is practicly the same as Super Mario Kart...
The Genesis version sadly didn't look and play the same, the SNES version was a really fun game..

and he was the fastest.
Nostalgia overload
Great childhood memories
Man this my game 🎯🎮 I miss it so much

They said Genesis Does What Nintendo'nt... But this version looks much better than Genesis Version.. All these years I never tried SNES Version, my whole life was a lie...
Well, there is one thing the Genesis version has over the SNES version. And that's the soundtrack.
gunboss201 looks like Nintendo does what genesis didn't (sorry sega fans)
That slogan was about the Genesis superiority over the NES, not the SNES.
indeed it was megadrive vs the NES not SNES ,snes came out then sega shat themselves and went downhill ever since ,saturn was shit all the megadrive addons were shit and dreamcast was too early too untrusted
that fx chip is witchcraft.. witchcraft I tell you!
Top
a surprising good mario cart clone. loved to play it
Um dos meus jogos preferidos de super.
gostava do modo batalha, e jogava com meus primos.
Depois de adulto consegui achar a fita vendendo e comprei.
Memories :)
Super Mario Kart may be the best SNES racing to play with ONE other player but there's 3 or 4 of you, this makes a great alternative!
A friend lent me the cartridge when I was a teenager. I had trouble playing it, it was spinning too much and I wanted to vomit. Now I think I can play it.
This game proves that Mario Kart could have been released without a special chip.
I still have my small poster this game came with somewhere
I had this I did enjoy playing it but that's because I only had a super Nintendo and I really loved Mario Kart but unfortunately this didn't take off as well as it could have done
I still have this game to this day, though I rarely played it. The graphics are awesome, though the game itself is a bit bland. The Rumble mode is really fun.
Bought this for AUD $130 when it first came out… hoping for a game of similar quality to Mario Kart. I was bitterly disappointed…
You know what, this game uses Super Mario Kart Engine,so i think Ubisoft buy the Nintendo Engines for this game
Absolutely not true. I know, as I produced the game. :)
You are all welcome to read all the juicy development and design secrets of all my games in my book. Thanks for keeping the retro love alive. 🙏
Anyone else noticed Hodja is 9/10 in the last 2 places they all have a certain speed depending on the character you choose
here is the hidden effect listen to the engine when the driver gets hit , 31:23 and 31:32 , its hard to explain but the glitch gives you super speed

Adorava demais

That first track is pretty much just a slightly different mario circuit 4 from smk lol
OMG!!!!!!! Street racer!!!!! i play som any times yessssssss
If you could turn off basically all the items and icons on the track, which you really can't even see anyway, then this would be cool game. With that though, I just find it annoying because I can't see any of the stuff.
It has the same bashing mechanic of road rash.
Congrats!
It seems better than Mario Kart.
Utterly kills the megadrive version

I think Sega CD could do this, but SNES still had more colors.
very nice
Ri de mais com esse jogo..
this version fades in comparison with the genesis's
im even sure the hidden effect can be triggered by the explosion tiles if its timed right , but again best racer to do this with this ZULU
it looks as good as the PSX version
Remake this game
I love Raphael, Biff and Helmut. It looks like there's more to them than their appearance.

This plays a lot like Mario Kart.
Not sure why but all I could really see was a skinned F ZERO game
Sumo San ist the best in this game... he really rocks the shit out;)
looks like mario kart visuals!!!
And Speed Racer’s logo
its just mario kart with other character sprites and the almost the same scenarios. genesis version is actually the best... best musics and much more FRENÉTICO
The Genesis version is inferior, but a fanboy denies reality to defend his pet video game.
This game has better graphics than MK imo and I liked that the characters had their own unique animations and move sets.
Game is called street racer but there is no street racing car, thats dumb
Hogja!!!
snes is awesome.this game looks cool similar to mario kart.
This was better than Mario kart
Raphael theme is like ELON MUSK theme :p
mario kart rip off to the max
yeh so the speed BUMPS or road bumps Can trigger a Hidden effect if you use the 1 of the 2 attacks they have , iv tried most of em , some hare hard to pull off but most of em have a hidden effect when its used close to a speed bump they need to Hit the bump after 1 second or 2 seconds depending on the character , zulu 's Rhino car is the easiest to perform these effects with , so thats why he is the BEST racer imo
The best character was Raphael
Ubisoft
Fuck yes whiteboy7thst all the way not cubx
get out of my internet
3rd bitchez
Street racer genesis is better
you can't be serious...this and Virtual Bart are 2 examples of SNES destroying Genesis...
Guy Incognito I wouldn't say Virtual Bart.... SNES has worse stages and missing animation (along with frame drops).
As with the OG comment, I disagree. Sure the Mega Drive version might be a valiant effort (unlike the godawful Amiga version), but the SNES got its hardware pushed far better than the Mega Drive version.
mode7 kinda looks like shit. didn't age well. everything s way too flat
+David Steck when were you born, exactly
+Zontar82 1983 you?
David Steck
1982 as my name implies.then you should have more respect for Mode 7,as making fun of it its like making fub of your elders
+Zontar82 nah I grew up with the Commodore 64 mode 7 never impressed me even back then. It worked in some games.
David Steck
Good boy
Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64 are Gods. The others are bullshit
+James Earl Cash strange because i find mario kart boring as hell compared to this game here
i agree, i liked street racer a lot more. Was more exciting for me and my friend with more variety.
Eener1000
indeed.more moves, more tracks variety, characters with more charisma etc
Zontar82 You are one on one million
James Earl Cash
TWO in a million, like the guy above stated as well.what can i say,i don't follow the herd,i follow my own taste.i'll leave the sheeps to their own games
