Maximum airflow. With the turbos mounted high and foward (in most cases) of the front wheels diminishes the chance of sucking up a heap of sand. These engines only last about (maybe) 15 to 20 runs between rebuilds. They are not following anyone either so their air into the turbos is pretty clean anyway. Thats my guess.
@The Stigs Romanian Cousineven if you weld the filter on it. the vacuum will still suck it in. true story lol they got so much money that they have few motors ready to be swapped, also money doesn't make them better drivers either just sayin lol
There is a lot that goes into flow characteristics but basically your typical aftermarket Inline 6 and inline 4 intakes mare shaped with volume reduction for the last two intake ports. This is because the flow path is pointing that direction. Filling a container with a garden hose. If you spray the water in from an angle the water goes off in different directions at a different rates of speed. But if you hang the hose directly over the center and cascade the water into the container it will all flow to the edges at a very similar rate of speed. Its not the intake pressure that makes the difference necessarily. Naturally aspirated engines would have the same issues with a poorly designed intake.
Loll Tony is right sskkuuddrraa, have you ever wondered why a lot of imports melt no.6 piston on a i6 or no.4 on a 4? Tapered in manifolds* the air goes where you direct it, it won’t take sharp turns so it melts that back piston. You’ve been learnered* 😂👍

I like the one at 9:10. That's a slick looking little rig. And I always had a thing for six-bangers, although I'd rather have one a little less tuned, so it'd last longer.
To clear things up... 1. No air filters because: Sand is heavy and thrown behind the vehicle/ the engines are rebuilt constantly/ air filters=restriction. 2. These are all 6 cylinder engines. A built inline or V6 is capable of producing over 2k horse power. I would say 'well built' but, lol, clearly these engines aren't. 3. the catastrophic engine failure has absolutely nothing to do with the tires flinging sand into the turbo. farrel factoid states the more sand to turbo the higher the boost pops.
Matt Pamplin Not really, it's like mud racing, you want to run on top of the sand. So you need gobs of power or a good chassis setup (or both) to do it.
The engines probably survive, but it looks like the turbos get cooked from oil starvation being mounted so high. But I guess it's gotta be mounted up to keep away from the sand spray
They're not allowed to use sand paddle tires, and things would most likely break even faster if they used sand paddles since more traction would put more strain on the driveline etc
an info just so no one asks about the engines some car are using if the turbo is placed on the right side (driver view) its a 1fz from toyota land cruiser ,if its on the left side tb48 from nissan patrol ,if its running a twin on both sides probably a v8...
Main reason being there's no filter on the compressor housing of the turbo so the sand goes and fucks its shit up. Not only that but these engines are running crazy amounts of boost at high rpm's for an extended period of time so something's bound to explode sooner or later.

the catastrophic engine failure has absolutely nothing to do with the tires flinging sand into the turbo. farrel factoid states the more sand to turbo the higher the boost pops.
john martin XD
Question: Some cars just give plenty of warning before something goes wrong, but why do they keep on going destroying their engines?
no filter on the turbo
right! tssssssssss ! boom! goes the turbo lol
Im sure they make enough power to blow themself up even with a filter.
+FSXgta Exact
u Better stick to bicycles
I thought the same thing, maybe more of the engines would've survived
Cool video, thanks 8-)
I find it much more entertaining than normal drag racing!
Why no paddle tires?
That was my very first question to, lol!!
The class doesn't allow it
Bummers, I wonder if it would've made a huge difference, thanks!
Pointless having all that power then really isn't it.
Matt Pamplin
Not really, it's like mud racing, you want to run on top of the sand. So you need gobs of power or a good chassis setup (or both) to do it.
The engines probably survive, but it looks like the turbos get cooked from oil starvation being mounted so high. But I guess it's gotta be mounted up to keep away from the sand spray
Why don't they use sand paddle style tires they will help the trucks put the power down better and not blow up I think
+Alex Arroyo Probably because they can't DOHHHH.... .. .
+King Kitchens I didn't ask for a "probably" response if you're not sure about it shut the fuck up and don't answer to my comment.
They're not allowed to use sand paddle tires, and things would most likely break even faster if they used sand paddles since more traction would put more strain on the driveline etc
Its against the rules to run paddles at the hill climb
Its to easy one guy said they dont di this for prize or money they just blow cash and have fun its alk about pushing it to the limit and over
an info just so no one asks about the engines some car are using if the turbo is placed on the right side (driver view) its a 1fz from toyota land cruiser ,if its on the left side tb48 from nissan patrol ,if its running a twin on both sides probably a v8...
I reckon sand entering the turbo inlet may have something to do with the high failure rate! That and some seriously dodgy tuning :)
Operator my bet is on the dodgy tuning.
what engine do they put in the nissan patrol/nissan safari? I've heard it's a beast
put a damn air filter on the turbos jeez
Air filters slow down the air, plus they have them really high and In the front so sand is less likely to get in them it's actually really smart
Are those 2jz's?? They seems to be more reliable than that
From which gear they start ? it looks like most of them dont shift till end of race
rixogtr first
From what I’ve heard, 4th gear.
4th or 5th
Are they not allowed to use paddle tires l, or any other tire to actually dig into the sand?
Why so much blowing up??
Main reason being there's no filter on the compressor housing of the turbo so the sand goes and fucks its shit up. Not only that but these engines are running crazy amounts of boost at high rpm's for an extended period of time so something's bound to explode sooner or later.
Its sand, so run an big filter! I can run 35lbs on my not stock engine, but something says these are not built at very high standards
How much sand do you think the high mounted forward facing turbos on the fast moving vehicles are sucking up in 8-10 seconds anyways?
Run the largest filter possible. better yet run it through a cooling chamber. No one wants to rebuild an engine every time out
not built at very high standards
yes because many of them build it by themselves *no sponsors*
How do they run those open turbos in sand with no filter and expect everything to be fine?
10% less HP would be doing it, at least your engine would survive more than one race
if they remove one sticker : 15hp less
That's un-Arabic.
Most of these motors lost oil pressure while going up this little hill.
James B. Non of your Business bet u dont know how steep that hill is u dick
Honest question here, does allah forbid engines to consume alcohol too or is that ok?
+707 Magic Why are you being a racial and insulting towards people who are just asking a simple question? You need to realize white people are not bad people.
+Sackmatters yea, right? some people don't understand humor or sarcasm, or he's one of those keyboard crips, snoopin around utube lookin for an argument. .
trey kearns look though the comments on this video hes everywhere.
+707 Magic You just keep on ducking his sister. Beastiality is illegal and immoral.
Pretty cool but, I'm guessing not a lot of good machine shops in the Middle East?
Some nice drag rigs in there. Im have little knowledge in modifying engines, but are they flipping their headers over for the turbo setup they have?
Look at the great motors he says... they all blow up lol
Jeremy quiring Running sand straight into the turbo seems like a good head start on removing engines LOL
Diax1324 She have Money to repair engines and turbos :)
+Jeremy quiring could be turbo frying itself, transmission problems, intercooler piping coming off , axles. you think every time they stop the engine blew up ? fuckin noob lol
lilripsta911 no not alltimes
+Jeremy quiring at 100psi pretty much anything would blow up lol
Nice , question what modification you guys do to the t case to hold that much power ,thanks and have fun
why they are willing to potentially suck plooms of sand directly into the turbo and engine, i will never understand. Put an air filter on!!
After you learn how to speak...
+danthemanzizle Im not an expert, but im sure they have a reason for this. They're not stupid.
***** Probably they don't give a fuck because they afford a new one, thats why..
yea word.
+SLAPNUTS 3ث
i don't understand.. but they didn't change the gear all the time?
nearly every engine blows up..
dusty trousers their mentality: its ok we have money. plus we always have our supercars at home
Rubric Carpet Just like top fuel dragsters they need a rebuild every run or they blow up
MrManuel1329 Exactly! They’re not so different...
Rubric Carpet That’s a stereotype... but thanks for your contribution 😁😁👍👍
يخوي حبيتك من كلامك مدري ليه 😂
hmmm what times would those beasts run on a quarter mile?
Now these fools need to learn how to build an engine. Not a time bomb
MrWalkerds
They're not looking for durability. Now I will agree that Some of these guys need to at LEAST blow up or lose boost at the top of the track instead of right at the start
MrWalkerds
thats irrelevant when the grand prize is $300,000
a blown engine is nothing of their concern

B!&**$&*6??:(€&:
MrWalkerds I doubt these things are built for durability. They're pissing water just standing at the starting line and having a turbo completely exposed like that on a sand dune seems like kind of a bad idea in the long run.
behinderteleberwurst the turbo's are high enough in the air that they wont suck any sand up when being used
2 вопроса:
1) Эмираты?
2) двигатели ниссановские?
Probably need a whole new block after that much boost
🥴
is there a separate class that allows paddle tires?
Arab racing logic: Massive turbos and no tuning. Should be alright
+Robert Kucera atleast they can afford it, meanwhile you are saving cash to change tires for your pruis
+Waqas Siddique lol for an is300 but you were close
I approve this message
What makes you think there not tuned?
+midget1kicker the amount of ones that grenaded themselves....
How would these jeeps do on a straight up tarmac drag race?????
I wonder how quickly they could do a quarter mile...
MrBannnnnny probably not soo fast because of areodynamics
Patryk Zigi most of the small tire class cars that blast ass aren't "aerodynamic" lmao
MrBannnnnny at least 10's if the engines could hold it. Some of those could run 9's or 8's with a little bit less boost so the engine doesnt blow
Has team subzero changed to V6 category or do they still race with straight 6 engines? Team subzero is the best!!
So this is where all the 2j’s are going smh
They aren't 2jz lmao
@@alexperez2489 but there are some whatch closer
They’re 1fz fe engines search it up
There is not 2jz there dick head 😂 acting pro while u dont know shit
The Truck at 20min lol really knocked it down. Love this sports. Imagine this engine in US streets lol.
those poor poor engines.
iRider i know right
Don't worry, they're rebuilt every other race. At this point they most likely fabricate their own blocks/heads based on the TB48/1FZ design anyway.
Just want to point out that top fuel drag cars get engine rebuilds every run...
It’s more fun to watch them blow up in my opinion just tractor pulls
One question: Intake air passes thru the intercooler and enters the engine without air filter? O_O
Palmilla air filter=less air flow
and there is no reason to have an air filter when you have the turbo that high
I see this is a sport of who can red line the farthest
are they not able to run paddle tires by rules or are they just choosing not to?
