I've had a lot of my markers packed in a shed since I moved over two years ago and of course they have all dried out. I was going to throw them away but then because there is so much information on TH-cam, I decided to check out if there was a way to revive them. And I found you video. Thanks so much. You have saved me a small fortune. 🤩
thanks for the lesson. I have a tip...I have found that if you store any markers horizontally/flat when not in use, it extends their saturation life considerably...most people will put pens in a vertical stance (in a mug or such) and this will not make them last as long
Yes, I totally agree. The only exception to this is Copics - since they have a vacuum body, it doesn't matter whether you store them horizontal or vertical. But, yes, all others should be stored horizontally.
I'm glad I came across this video, even today its still needed. I'm purchasing the materials needed for my Ohuhu alcohol markers. Thank you so much for this.
I know this was filmed quite awhile ago, but it came in handy for me, now, so I thought it was worth saying, THANKS! I kept thinking that with all the rubbing alcohol I have for health purposes, it had to help being my blender pens back to life. 😊 Thanks again!HAPPY HOLIDAYS!💜
Didn't know I was out of alcohol as I was destroying the cap on my only marker I had left..😟 Buuut lost my cap cuz it went flying somewhere . 🤷 Soo I tried anyways.... hand sanitizer.. 🤦 😂😂😂 NOT RECOMMEND. 😂😂😂😂
Excellent tutorial. The ultra fine Sharpies seem to be worse at drying out, sometimes just sitting on the shelf. I use mine mostly for marking metal layout work for fabrication and have revived many of them using this technique, though pulling the nib was something I learned from your content. I add alcohol from both ends.
WELL NOW YOU TELL ME I CAN DO THIS.... after tossing soooo many in the trash!... hahahah just giving you a hard time LOL... I will NOT throw anymore away thanks to this video ;o)))))) Hugs Lisa
Hi I have purchased the Bic markers individually in the past. It is quite easy. Hobby Lobby sells the Sharpie's individually. I don't know their pricing. When I purchased them individually, I did that through a different company that doesn't seem to be around any more. By the way, Sometimes, it is difficult to find those pastels you are wanting, so adding the alcohol to a marker will lighten it eventually. You can use them as a pastel version, or a new shade. I do the same thing with water-based markers. Thanx, Mindy
Those little pipes are sold at Hobby Lobby on the paint aisle, near the water spritzer bottles and water pans used with painting! They are like 2-3 dollars.
Very good video!!! On my fine markers (Sharpie), I use a needled syringe. I have some on hand, because I used to have quite a few dogs and gave them their shots. Not sure, but you might be able to purchase them from a farm/livestock supply store.
Thank you so much, Lisa. I have unfortunately thrown away many Bics....I go through my favorite colors so fast!! and I do buy them from the shop Bic site, but thank you for linking it and all of the supplies needed-- this is so helpful! I love this video!
Awesome information! TFS!!! I used a (new) needle tip glue bottle to fill my alcohol and the extra fine tip of the bottle really helped me with dropping it into the barrel of my markers!
Jeanette Donahoe I would say as long as there is a chisel nib that you can remove, yes you should be able to. If there’s no chisel nib, you would have to use the “drip” method where you drip a drip or two of alcohol on the nib at a time.
Hi there Lisa, Thank you so much for doing this video. I can't tell you how many Sharpies I've thrown out that had lost thier color. I have a med. set of Artiza markers that are loosing their color, these are not supposed to be refillable. Do you think that this process will work with them? I love these markers and would love to continue to make use of them rather than add them to the ever expanding mountains of plastic junk that has been piling up all around us and in our oceans.
I'm sure this would work with those markers, too. Just remember you'd only be able to do it once with any marker before the color of the marker would start getting lighter.
Thanks for the demo, found every minute worth while. I already do some of this but use a different method but find your method better. Loved all the details. Only time I get ticked is when I buy new sets for much $ and entire set is 1/2 dry or worse. I live out of town so returning markers and other supplies a real pain. I’m finding stores store markers by hanging them up which is horrible for both one ended ( tip up)or dual ended and they also often have very old stock. Thanks again for all your posts!
You could maybe try it with Arteza. Just never do it with the higher quality alcohol markers like Copic and Spectrum Noir. They have specialty inks and putting regular rubbing alcohol in them could ruin them. That’s why they have their own refill inks.
Thank you so much Lisa 💜 I have a set of Sharpies and since I heard you say you can revive them I was wondering how you do that. Now I know thanks to you ❤🌷❤
@@LisasColoringCorner I'm not sure, I would say it's water-based. With this kind of marker, you could write a name or something on the wine glasses and it could use water to wash away the writing on the glass or ceramic.
It depends how much of actual ink is left in the felt tube inside the marker. Usually there is enough to add alcohol once (and only once) to the marker and it shouldn't lighten it. I don't believe the strength of the alcohol should matter.
sn khan you can really only add alcohol to them once. If you do it more, the color starts getting lighter because you’re diluting the color with the alcohol.
I have never tried to refill my sharpies, etc., only my alcohol markers. This is mainly due to the fact that permanent marker ink is different than alcohol marker ink. So I don't think it would work but I could be wrong. Like I said, I've never tried it.
Barb Stains what brand of markers are they? Also, are they dried out because you’ve used them so much or just dried up because a cap was left off or some other reason where you know there should be lots of color still left in the marker?
Hi Lisa, I just found your channel looking for solutions to reviving my dried marker. I was really enjoying my coloring last night, got sleepy, went to bed. This morning I woke up to find the cap off my dark olive by reno-art. I know its a cheapie but I love the color. I found the marker at the side of my couch 😒 I looked up the terms you use for the alcohol replenishment, I don't think we have 'rubbing alcohol' but we do have methylated spirits. I got some somewhere lol. I don't have a pipette here right now, I do have a half empty bottle of Aqua Ear (for swimmers ear, ear infections etc) Its really good at dribbling drops. I was wondering if I could use that, I eard the ingredients and it says Active Ingredients: Acetic Acid Glacial 17.3mg/mL; Isopropyl alcohol 634mg/mL Do you think I could use that in a pinch? Or experiment, for science? I know I could go to the shop and get another but I like to have a go at it by myself. Whatcha think? xx
Mythelated spirits is very close to rubbing alcohol but there are a lot of additives added to it. I guess you could use the Aqua Ear. Just make sure it’s cleaned out really well. I guess you could experiment fir the sake of science. Lol.
It would make it juicy again but you could only do this one time and even then the shade if the color might be just a little bit lighter than before. It all depends how much of the actual ink is still left in the spongy cord inside the marker. Typically you can add alcohol to a used up marker once without lightening the color too much.
Jeanette Donahoe you could. But, again, only once. And your best bet would be to get a big bottle of the Copic Colorless Blender as this is the actual “solution” in the Copic Markers. But, all in all, your best bet is to just get that color of refill. Unless you know for sure that it just dried out and did not run out of ink. Hope this helps.
Thanks, Lisa and also for such a quick response. I had changed out the chisel nib for a fine nib, and although the brush end is nice and juicy, the fine nib is dry. It never filled up with ink. You gave excellent advice. Thanks again.
Do you have any kind of small dropper bottle that is empty? Like maybe for eye drops or something like that? You could put some rubbing alcohol in that and possibly drip some in. Otherwise, the Popeyes are very inexpensive. Amazon has some sets for around $4 to $5 that you can reuse over and over.
Hey Lisa... can you tell me if there is a coupon code in your coloring heaven magazine for the either 1 or 2 year subscription? I think in one of your videos you mentioned it but was not sure... I was in a hurry and forgot to ask you about it. Thanksssss
No please dont use your cutting mat if that's what was suggested. I do believe they will become smeared I'd if in contact with alcohol. Just b cautious on that one. This is the first time I've seen a video confidently share a technique that has actually worked. Cant wait to try!
I don’t think I’d use acetone as it can melt things like plastics. But I think you might be able to get the isopropanol on the UK amazon site. Otherwise, I believe an equivalent over there is called Surgical Spirit B.P. which most pharmacists sell.
New subscriber and I have 2 questions. First of all why aren't the colors of the ink the colors that the Caps Represent,Drives me crazy. Second Why can't you Just add more ink if the colors are changing when you've refilled them once already ?????
Quree Chauhan for any water based supplies, you would definitely want to use water. The same is true for any alcohol based markers - you would definitely want to use alcohol.
I have some dried up Nice markers that I tried to fill like a Sharpie, but the nib just disintegrated. I'm using them to make alcohol ink instead 😂 I wish I found your very informative video first. Oh well.
First time I tried this on Kuretake duel markers...I pulled at the end and it stretched and stretched...when I let it go...it was very long ...🤣🤣 so needed a new one...🤣🤣 The second one I did, seemed to take loads of fluid soo kept going...all was well until I put the nib back in...yellow everywhere...🤣🤣...so after watching this...there maybe hope..🥰🥰
Toya and Friends yes. You can pull out the chisel end of the marker and add some rubbing alcohol with a pipette. Again, just be aware that you can only do this once or the color might start to lighten.
It would help sooo much if you would hold the pen still when pointing out the specific type nibs/tips. It is difficult to see something if you are waving it around in the air. Otherwise good, useful info is to be found within all your chatter. Than you.
It should work - it's just that the higher the percentage the more alcohol and less water so the markers work better. So the higher percentage the better.
why wouldn't you just put alcohol in the ink tube inside the marker case... at the top end so the alcohol would go thru the whole tube to reach the nib
If there isn’t much true ink left in the market, then, yes, the color will be lighter. Usually, after a marker goes dry, there is enough ink left over to refill it once. But only once. For some reason, your marker must’ve not had enough ink left in its “core”.
Thanks for sharing this. I bought a set of ink refill syringes to revive mine. In fact, I have it always at the ready sitting in a drawer...but I don't have little ones around. Michaels has Sharpies individually for $1.79, but not Bic. In fact, I wouldn't buy their 36 ct sets at all. They are almost $60 when I can get them for less than $20 on Amazon frequently.

Be_A_Bright_ Sparkle lol. 🤣
Thank you, a great tutorial
Elaine Wines you’re welcome! 😊
Does this work for ohuhu markers?
Toya and Friends yes. You can pull out the chisel end of the marker and add some rubbing alcohol with a pipette. Again, just be aware that you can only do this once or the color might start to lighten.
@@LisasColoringCorner thanks so much for your help
It would help sooo much if you would hold the pen still when pointing out the specific type nibs/tips. It is difficult to see something if you are waving it around in the air. Otherwise good, useful info is to be found within all your chatter. Than you.
I learned so much thank u
Thank you so much! I was wondering how to do this just this morning.
Neferkit1 you’re welcome!! 😊
Neferkit1 just put the sharpie in hand sanitizer and fixed
Having a work surface with a pencil ✏or marker 🖍can bring it to life.🌹
Come with me and you will see.🤠

Is 50% achol okay
It should work - it's just that the higher the percentage the more alcohol and less water so the markers work better. So the higher percentage the better.
Still super helpful
Glad it helped you. Thank you for watching.
why wouldn't you just put alcohol in the ink tube inside the marker case... at the top end so the alcohol would go thru the whole tube to reach the nib
The tips are too small. The alcohol would just run all over.
Thank you for sharing! Great video. 🙂
melissa61272 thank you!! 😊
@@LisasColoringCorner you're very welcome
If your nib is dried out, you can put it in some alcohol before re-inserting. Not for the fine tips.
Andb could I do this to ohuhu
I think I messed up... my ink got very diluted and the color got waaay lighter 😩
If there isn’t much true ink left in the market, then, yes, the color will be lighter. Usually, after a marker goes dry, there is enough ink left over to refill it once. But only once. For some reason, your marker must’ve not had enough ink left in its “core”.
@@LisasColoringCorner Ah too bad. I better go get me some new ones then. Sucks that the skin colours always die first 🙁 thanks for the top, though!
Does Hulu markers work?
This would work for any kind of alcohol marker.
And to think I threw out dried out alcohol markers not knowing this trick and ordered replacements. Grr
It works
Did work on my sharpie pens 😔
Thanks for sharing this. I bought a set of ink refill syringes to revive mine. In fact, I have it always at the ready sitting in a drawer...but I don't have little ones around. Michaels has Sharpies individually for $1.79, but not Bic. In fact, I wouldn't buy their 36 ct sets at all. They are almost $60 when I can get them for less than $20 on Amazon frequently.
JetPens.com has Sharpies for $1.20 each. I have no clue on the shipping. I can't find Bic there.
And Shopbic.com has Bic Ultra Fines for $1
What ink refill syringes?
