This is one of very few vids of ploughing, that has not a single flaw to see or find. Very nice job done there, beautiful setup, nice flow of material. And the filming is just right.
Nice job plowing! In my area which is in Northwest PA, there is a lot of farms that grow potatoes and when they put a crop of them in most of the farms use rollover plows to plant that crop. But when the potatoes are off they will rip or chisel plow it and put in wheat usually. They often no till soybeans after the wheat is off or wait and put corn in there the following year with minimum tillage. They generally put potatoes every 4 or 5 years depending on everything and grain crops beans, corn and wheat in between.
What type of ripper do you use, we always run our 9 shank subsoil at 15in depth in front of our soybeans. We've definitely found its beneficial for the beans but not so much before the wheat. We also run it over our new alfalfa ground before leveling & drilling. I'm in SW Oklahoma.
Alfalfa is so hard to get rid of around my parts because no one plows anymore. Offset disk is about the best method around here. Your using the best method that doesn't utilize chemicals. Good luck boys, God-bless...
@@mikep7810 We run 800 head of cattle per year, we split our ground around half soft and hard wheat/soybeans. Half the wheat ground is split between early and late beans with half being left fallow in a rotation. We also rotate appropriate ground with alfalfa planted with a Brill every 4/5 years. Once tried pink eyed peas ended up with 60% on the ground after having to drape them because of defoliation and bad weather. We run 2500 total Acres between me and my boss. I enjoy most of it lol. We do 90% of our own repairs and upkeep except harvest of the beans and bailing. I love your channel and wish you great years to come.
Good video Mike. Watching that dirt roll over is pretty dang satisfying. And them are some straight rows. Your daddy has done that a time or two lol. Take care buddy👍😊
Beautiful looking tillage team. When I’ve moldboard plow, and I forget what I did the season before I would drive around the field to see where the dead furrow is to see if I needed to plow in or out. Some of the larger fields we did I had to split it a few times.. great video Mike..
We used to mold bore plow but in the fall dad did that part. sometimes it was in the afternoon a sometimes it was at night after milking . Great drone footage Mike !
As a kid out in Eastern Washington State Dad had a 4020 he used to plow with. It was a roll over plow with three 18" bottoms and he used to plow 10 to 12 inches deep for potatoes. At that depth that was all that 4020 wanted to handle. Good memories.
Nice to see some plowing. Brings back memories. It looks like the coulters need to be adjusted, especially the rear one. It looks like it’s running too far to the right. The bottom leg is catching the edge of the unplowed sod and throwing it around. When the coulter is properly adjusted, that doesn’t happen. Also, you seem to have an issue with clumps of sod ending up on top of the plowed field. If you install skimmers, you should be able to get rid of that issue.
When I was a kid, I remember plowing with 4640 with I think a six bottom plow. We always had a duel wheel on the outside, and I am not sure if that made much difference, but that seem pretty common.
I didn't make it down there. I heard about it at the last second. I heard they switched it to a 1pm afternoon game anyway so I would have been too busy to get down there
This is the first time this spring I can say I'm in the fields too. Still a little too wet to plow but I could run the harrow over the ground that was worked up last fall to loosen the rocks that I picked. Camp No-Fun but it's a start.
For a 18 inch turns over nice You have nice soil l On our farm we had a lot of heavy clay We had 3 16 for corn stalks For sod or hard pact head lands 3 16 wouldn't go in We used a old 4 12 All three point hitch plows From Canada Love your channel Keep them coming
You probably need to make a few videos showing how to set a tractor and plow. I see a lot of TH-camrs f^*£#ing up a field trying to make a video of plowing.
It wasn't that high of quality. The alfalfa was getting really thin and we were getting more grass. We made the decision to plow it up and get some lime on there. We will put corn on it for 2 years then seed it back over to alfalfa
You gotta do what works best for your operation. We chisel plow just about everything. When it comes to the sod ground the moldboard plow does a much better job then the chisel plow

It does look really good on that plow
Beautiful video of a beautiful rig! I can smell this video! 😂
Awesome JD 4055! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you Brad. I'm actually hooking the plow up to the 4055 today. It does a great job
I dunno Y but I always did enjoy watching and plowing with moldboard plow.
It is very fun to watch
Beautiful video of your dad plowing! with this tractor and plow's.

Great vid! 80's today, and the rivers are flooding from snow melt! Hopefully the weather holds for you!
Thanks Gene. We got a lot of rain in the forecast so it looks like barn work this week!
That ground was turning over nicely. Good Luck with the warmer weather.

With the growth on the Alfalfa should have some great fertilizer to plow down. Great video Mike.

Beautiful ground. Don’t see them plows tripping to much!
Thanks Randy. This field isn't bad. We have others that seems to be tripping every couple of seconds

Great job plowing, my wife’s cousin still has a 4 bottom flip plow but hasn’t used it in years. Hope all is going well for you and your family Mike.
Thank you. I appreciate it. Hope all is good with you and your family too
Could you please do a video explaining how to do the ends off?
You just plow everything in and leave the dead furrow on the outside. For this 4 bottom plow he usually does 3 passes on the ends
thank you
Thank you
Dammit Mike, now I want to plow something
Pick a field and turn it over! lol
@@mikep7810 maybe on my leased ground, but I really don’t have anything at home to plow up at the moment, lol.

Haven’t run a molboard plow in years
I bet you could hop in there and turn some ground over real good. Just like riding a bike
I think the roll over plows didn't take off in the US due to not being re-set bottoms. If you are in rocks the auto re-set plows are awesome.
Thats true. We do have a lot of rocks in our area
Didnt see to many rugged NY state rocks pop up!! Did you go watch Verlander pitch?

18
does a nice job turning over the sod how many times will you harrow it
Thanks Dana. We will disk it once and hit it with the roller harrow then plant corn
You guys need a plow for the 4555
We do. We have the chisel plow for the 4555

just over 10 thousand
Great video. Better to plow in the fall I believe however i know that doesn't always happen. Cheers
Thanks Dan. Yeah its always pretty busy in the fall. At least by doing it in the spring I was able to get some manure spread on it to work in

I have a jd 4055. I don't plow much but I have a pair of

That's a good idea Jeff. I never really think about setting it up.
I would of waited a week then cut the hay first cause it looks like a very good stand yet
With the weather we are getting in the forecast we don't have a week to wait. Plus we already put a bunch of manure on it to plow in
That appeared to be quite a quality and substantial alfalfa crop.
Q: What gives? Why plowning it up...???
It wasn't that high of quality. The alfalfa was getting really thin and we were getting more grass. We made the decision to plow it up and get some lime on there. We will put corn on it for 2 years then seed it back over to alfalfa
Man you almost could have took that alfalfa off before you plowed
With the weather we have in the forecast its better to plow it now plus I have a bunch of manure on there to work into the soil
Lots of worms in upstate NY?
Yes
Reversible is the word you're looking for. 95% of ploughs in the UK are reversible.
