It actually common on Linux world. Android uses Linux kernel which is usually provided by manufacturers. "Extended RAM" just uses the ZRAM that generates a single swap file loaded on a specific system directory. Now, when it comes to support, it really depends on the manufacturers. And "Extended RAM" defeats the purpose for budget to mid tier phones, and you we're right that it will consumes more battery & storage, as the chipset or the CPU would bottleneck the system if pushing too hard on the "Extended RAM" capacity, so i recommend disabling it or set it into minimum (2GB or 4GB)
I've used 12 GB of extended RAM on One Plus Phone, and trust me it does work and you instantly feel the difference once the phone restarts with the extended RAM. However, i turned it off because of excessive battery consumption- It was too much! My battery was getting drained to 20% within 6-7 hours of moderate usage!
Supposedly, Virtual RAM is more beneficial for devices with smaller amounts of RAM. (4GB or lower) But on devices with 6GB/8GB of RAM or higher, it's useless. And in some cases, actually IMPEDES performance. This mainly applies to Samsung phones/tablets. RAM Plus is somewhat polarizing for a lot of people who have one, the other, or both. Some say it's actually pretty useful, while others say it makes everything run slower than if it wasn't on.
I got a new phone yesterday as my black view a 100 wasn't really doing the trick for me so i bought a phone on Amazon for £85 and it came with 6gb of ram and ram expansion of 12gb so 18gb in total so i added all my stiff storage space is 128gb when was done with everything i went max and did the 12gb ram improvement this phone is hella fast i had 20 tabs open to check it didn't slow down at all so it is really working i still have 50% storage so ive got all my music photos so i think it actually works definitely recommend
Kinda remind me of that old toyota car that have 2nd oil tank storage,if your first fuel gone empty, just switch to the second tank. Which beg the question, why they discontinued that?
I have 8gb ram..but whenever I open recent tabs it always showed as 1.8Gb remaining even though I had minimal TH-cam or WhatsApp..system always used 5 to 6GB...do I turn virtual on?
Yes, it is called memory swapping (in Linux) or paging (in Windows). The technology was invented in 60s and today is used by the OS by default. In other words: pc ram memory is already extended without physical upgrade.
Back in the day like windows xp pa.
I bought a cheap phone with 3GB RAM and a promise of additional 3GB extended RAM. The heck. This technology is nothing but a gimmick. A scam! Virtual RAM dont work!
While it may improve multitasking, singletasking apps or games that see much more ram available to them now and actually start using it over the actual ram limit, grind to a horrible halt with extended ram enabled, so your entire phone freezes over and you need to hard reboot it. Like when you have 4GB(actual)+4GB(extended) RAM and some game decides to start using 6GB RAM, it's game over, while with just having 4GB available, it would run normally.
I dunno man, I started playing Zenless Zone Zero with my 8gb S23U, which requires a minimum of 8gb of RAM. I was running into problems where things in the background kept closing on me and trying to restart (such as Samsung Health and even One UI Launcher would close) and the phone would crash back to home and have to restart everything. I re-enable RAM Plus at 2gb, and everything has been butter smooth since. My stuff stays open in the background, and game performance has improved with no more stuttering. Take from that what you will, but I'm taking it as a win.
Before, Miguel's looks don't match the way he speaks, even his movements looks forced or awkward. Hence, he sounded and felt a bit boring to watch. But now, I can see a big improvement. He looks great and the looks & voice match his movements well and don't look as forced and awkward anymore. Yey.

Turn it off
only if your phone has 6/8 ram os plus(native ram)
Can personal computers 🤔 also be extended without physical upgrade?
I used to do that on Win Xp by converting disk space or even flash drives.

It doesn't make your phone faster and only allows you to run heavier apps, but like I said it won't make it faster.
