That's how the UN describes the state of Gaza since Israel's war began in October.
No buildings have been spared from the Israeli strikes.
The UN's mine action agency says after more than six months of war, 37 million tons of debris litter the Strip.
Clearing it could take 14 years and likely be slowed down by the unexploded bombs and ammunition scattered throughout Gaza.
For Palestinians living among the rubble that makes for an even more dangerous environment.
And once the war is over, will it be safe for people to return and rebuild?

Palestine is occupied land, and under international law, the Palestinians have the legal right to resist this occupation by any and all means.

I saw a video of a 8th year old boy in a Gaza Hospital whose parents were killed in a israeli air strike and who lost both his legs as they were amputated without anesthesia
The hospital is existing on diesel generators as the occupiers shut down the electricity.
We are living in very dark times.

Starting a war and losing it doesn't make you a victim....
the unexploded ordinance in the rubble is one thing, but people need to also remember how many thousands of people are still buried under all of that. so the removal of rubble will also continuously include the recovery and dignified burial of all of those remains. that's a point of particular distaste with regards to that temporary pier world central kitchen had created, too.
the depth of loss and destruction is utterly unfathomable
If I thought what remained of my flesh that is of no use to my spirit anymore, might be in the rubble that could be used to bring food and reconstruction, I'd have zero problem with that. I've made it clear to my adult children that if the Lord should tarry and my flesh should pass, that I'd like my ashes to be used as part of a planting of a nice shade tree that will grow, bringing shade, cooling, beauty and oxygen to generations in the future.

Amidst the rubble
The billions of dollars going to weapons seem not to be a problem for many world leaders. I don't see why the same amounts should be an issue for rebuilding and reparations for what is and has been happening to the Palestinian people for generations. In addition, the 1967 or even futher back boarders that were established, should and could, provide safe habitable areas for the population of Gaza until it can and should be rebuilt. It may inconvenience "illegal" settlers, too bad! The Palestinian people of this region have been more than inconvenienced for generations. Give them their land back!

I've never seen such destruction! I disagree with the 14 year assessment for the clean-up. I've worked in open-pit mining and seen the same volume (overburden) pre-mining material, cleared away in 3 1/2 - 4 years. Millions of tones of hard compacted earth cleared away. They will need mining equipment for this clean up, maybe be a freight railway built to expedite. A fleet of Cat D11's , Cat 6040, Cat 797's , Cat 24's. Its incredible what this equipment can move in a short time.

It's actually quite ironic. So it could take ten years clearing mines etc before even plan to rebuild infrastructure, houses and everything that people need for living. So maybe 20 years. Where will the Palestinians live in the meantime? Also: as Gaza looks now and with the time table for demining and rebuild etc, Israel can't use it either for the next 20 years approx..Surrealistic.

I still can't believe we have 80+% of the structures / infrastructure in rubble but only like 1.5% of the population have died. I don't mean to sound insensitive or cold towards their struggle, but wouldn't we expect these two figures to be closer to one another? I mean if you flatten half my home town, I'd expect half the population to die as a result; replace the 1/2 with any fractional number you'd like and it still seems reasonable. I can't explain the discrepancy in the 80+% and 1.5% numbers, but the difference is large enough that there must be a causal reason.
