First person on the internet to actually show inside the grill instead of having a stationary camera 10 feet away

The click as you put the new ones in is very satisfying.

Very useful - attempting this today on my F31 335D. Thanks for the clear tutorial.

Just replaced the grilles on my F45 … exactly the same process. The clips on the bottom are difficult as they need to be pushed up from underneath.
I left off the metallic trims as the all-black grilles look classier.
BMW we’re going to charge me £300. + labour but I bought mine off Amazon for £35 (with free shipping) ! and installation took 15 mins.
Personally, I gave the area a good clean before I replaced the grills - same for the area where weather strip is fitted …
    Result !

how did you do the bottom ones? I got the same grille on a 17plate but the 7 seat version. the grille behind is filled in completely so you can't reach through. then rubber seals all round it and like packaging foam so I can't see the clips

I am considering using something like a bolt cutter to remove the fins so I can just reach through there from the front and undo the clips that way -- I mean, since I'm throwing them out anyway.

Looks nice but I would have cleaned it first before putting the grills back in

Thanks for the video, very helpful 👍🏻 but is no one going to mention that he didn’t give the area a good wipe down before fitting the new grills 😤😤🤪

Having just bought a 340i with chrome grills I am looking to replace them with black. This video has made the diy process an option for me lol.

Good Video - just wanted to add the size for those middle Torx bolts is actually T30 not T27 (Although T27's will do it if that's all you have)

Looks good. My F31 has the original chrome kidneys in but the previous owner had sprayed them black. It's now starting to peel so the chrome shows through in patches. Now I know how easy they are to change, I'll be ordering some proper black ones!

If your just binning the old grills you could just cut the centre fins and access from the front

This was extremely hard to do and even painful for me. I guess my hands are too big to fit in propely because I could barely reach any of the clips. Well worth it tho, gloss black dual slat looks amazing

My friend who is mechanic pulled the grills without any screws removal, within 5 secs he pulled both grills and installed the new ones. I was shocked couse i tried on this way and it was too hard so i gave up...

@@iam4lmirwhen it’s not your car you don’t take as much car and probably would break a few clips as it wouldn’t be obvious so just be cautious

Since you did a good job you could at least give a polish before reassembling the grids !!

I obviously have smaller hands , manages first one through grill, 2nd super easy once first is out. Took no more than 5 minutes to install new ones.

Surely if the bottom clips off that way? Wouldn’t the top clips be the same by just using your fingers?

Can you swap the kidney grills on the LCI model since they have partly-closed grill slats on stock models? I wonder if installing these would let too much air into the cooler. I guess there is a reason why the grill is partly closed on my 163 hp model.. or no?
