Hitler's idea to scrap the surface fleet was foolish. It would just hand the British a completely free victory and free up many of their ships and aircraft for other useful purposes.
When you make torpedo attacks on groups like this, you want to fire at the most distant targets first. This will mean your torpedoes will arrive at closer to the same time, meaning less warning and less chance to evade.
@@Nighthunter6666 yeah, this game doesn't seem to give the player the tools to manually micromanage individual attacks and such- which is fine really, given the larger strategic scope of this game. It's one thing to control one sub and calculate solutions on all targets yourself, it's another thing entirely to control multiple subs, and ships, and aircraft, all with their own targets... I think I like having to rely on your craft to calculate their own solutions, makes it feel more like you are the commander focused on the bigger picture rather than one small piece of the puzzle
It is kind of hard to target multiple ships in this game. I would rather 100% ensure hits on the easiest to hit target. If I hit something else with the second salvo then that is just sugar on top.
The way the Brooklyn immediately tried to avoid the incoming torpedoes looked so realistic. It looked a scene from a movie; I almost could hear the alarm sounding on the ship, the crew manning the guns, the torpedoes rushing in.
The Japanese side gets a +25% to their aiming solution During any night engagements (surface engagements). The Americans get 10% bonus is within radar range. Good luck

i think what makes Wolfpack so good is that not only does he have good editing skills and tactical prowess, hes also strategically minded, thinking the BIG GAME, adapting to his strategic environment, when compared to other, who are more gung ho, rash and reckless with their decision making.
This proves to be a very exciting series, I love the flight sims, I love the sub sims, but seeing them used together in a coordinated military campaign is really quite spectacular. Also, you know the US came out victorious historically in this engagement, so the tension is real :D

The sound design in a game like this seems unusually great. Not the sort of thing you expect from something so, well, grognardy. The big guns on the ships, SONAR pings, etc., seem very well done.

Currently doing my own IJN campaign. The fact that their torpedoes work and nearly every ocean going vessel has scout aircraft was what sold me on it. Plus I was able to sink the Enterprise within the first few days lol

Thought I’d subbed to you watching you play IL-2 but either way I have now. You obviously have mastered the subs. Role playing that poor crew who did so well and almost escaped was enjoyable to watch. 👍🏻
I don't think that is a mechanic in the game. It should be though if you ask me! As the player you can just roll over the sub at 3 knots and not have any issues.
Loving this series. Much as I love it, it makes a nice changes from the SH3 content. I really like the look of the game's RTS elements. If it also gave you the option in the difficulty settings to manually find solutions for torps and guns then it'd be perfect!
You might also want to guard the south-western approach towards Guadalcanal with scout planes. I've fought off 2 attempts from the enemy trying to go up that route and invade with transport ships. My approach has been way different from yours. The main priority was to get a carrier force with light escorts into the theatre at the very beginning and have them go down to Guadalcanal to fend off any invasion attempts by the enemy, as well a smaller transport fleet with the goal of sending reinforcement to the island. My carrier fleet was successful in it's mission and only then did I start sending heavy crusiers in. Now I have total domination over both air and sea around the island, and even got the mighty Yamato cruising around trying to find an even match for it :D
Funny engagement around Tinian a Pete shot down a Corsair right before the US took the island in 1944. So you best not ever underestimate any enemy plane no matter what it is.
TASK FORCE 6 IJN Mogami. Captains Log. 9th August 1942. 20:40 p.m. Before this operation... the mood on the ship was absolutely gloomy because the crew still suffers post Midway trauma... from which our Mogami didn't escape unscratched after all. And to add salt to injury the sheer fact that we caused the collision and loss of our sister cruiser Mikuma near Midway even further depressed the crew. Of course, following post-battle review I submit my resignation from the command personally to Admiral Yamamoto... but he rejected it stated that he is the only one fully responsible for the Midway catastrophe, and right now we must do everything possible to rise up back quickly as we can from this events because the enemy will not give us a time to grieve over the lost battle and we must do everything what possible to turn the tide before Americans become truly unstoppable. We arrived near Guadalcanal at the dawn of August 9th only to learn that Americans already dispatched not only their own task Force consisted two heavy and two light cruisers escorted by destroyers but their own invasion convoy as well... however, Americans didn't anticipate one thing... our submarines which at the end of the day reduced their cruiser squadron to barely float heavy damaged Atlanta class and just enough transports to takeover island opposite to Guadalcanal which complicated the situation a little, but on the other hand, such location of the enemy base might, in fact, play in our advantage... because now we will know where to look after them and should be rather easy to neutralize that base once our own airfield will be able to sustain bombers. There is however one thing which raised alarm in our own fleet, and I mean very possible presence in the area at least one American carrier Task Force, which by the way blown up its own cover by launching pretty massive fighter airwing against our own lonely scout who managed to send us a warning message before got to shoot down... and speaking of the fighters, I really hope that Guadalcanal airfield will soon dispatch our own fighters to counter potential air raids from the carrier. I knew that mission command is concerned to get our own dive bombers in the area as quickly as possible... but I wish I could remind them that INADEQUATE fighter protection over Kido Butai during crucial moments of the Midway operation caused the loss of our four elite fleet carriers... that's why I hope that we will see soon our own fighters in the area. Generally speaking... I must say that after the first day of actual battle contacts with the enemy I would call a loss of the one submarine and one scout plane against four enemy transports, two heavy and one light cruiser (with fourth heavy damaged) a bargain... but the last thing we should do now when we know that enemy carrier(s) is in fact in the area is to succumb into absolutely unfounded war optimism but proceed with the utmost caution and who knows... maybe we get our own revenge for Midway after all... Supplemental Log. After a talk with our supply officer, I'm kind of inclined to send a request to the HQ to in fact NOT neglect the port facilities at Guadalcanal as well because we might really need a supply port here for submarines so they would quickly come back to their patrol sectors and our own ships which will help us not to leave the island without protection for long. But of course, that's just my personal suggestion.

Awesome series! I hope you use your newly won command points to field the battleship Kirishima and let land based aircraft chase their carriers. I think of Guadalcanal as a battleship-cruiser aesthetic more so than carrier duels.
Did you notice that you may have saved the life of the sub (at least for that attack 😉) with that rudder midship (Q key press) at 16:43 ? You had 5he depth set to 140m (I think that should be well below the crush depth since test depth is 100m) but by pressing Q you did not only set your rudder to midships but also you set the depth to the current depth (120 m). I was really awaiting an implosion right there but anyways I really enjoy the new series and I can’t await new episodes! 👍
You have litterally enacted the japanese Kantai Kessen Doctrine, where the sub will wear down the enemy and then the surface fleet will finish off the remaining force

I don't know, the submarines seem to get the major targets, but not everything, so their needs to be a surface guard to Guadalcanal.

He has squandered a few opportunities in these first two episodes but so far has not had to pay any serious consequences.

U wouldn't have been able to get the airfield to 2 with those supplies anyways, so not that big of a loss I guess.
I am pretty sure I brought enough for a lvl 2 airfield.
@@Wolfpack345 Not really, you brought 200 units of Engineering and Fuel, upgrading to Level 1 costs 100 units of Engineering and Fuel ( 100 units of both left), upgrading to Level 2 costs additional 200 units of Engineering and Fuel ( you were 100 units short on both anyway, as I understood it)

Awesome series! I hope you use your newly won command points to field the battleship Kirishima and let land based aircraft chase their carriers. I think of Guadalcanal as a battleship-cruiser aesthetic more so than carrier duels.
Did you notice that you may have saved the life of the sub (at least for that attack 😉) with that rudder midship (Q key press) at 16:43 ? You had 5he depth set to 140m (I think that should be well below the crush depth since test depth is 100m) but by pressing Q you did not only set your rudder to midships but also you set the depth to the current depth (120 m). I was really awaiting an implosion right there but anyways I really enjoy the new series and I can’t await new episodes! 👍
