What is War on the Sea?
1942: The world is at war
The Japanese Empire expands throughout the Pacific where Allied forces attempt to halt its spread. A desperate struggle for control of the Solomon Islands is now underway.
How will you protect your transports as they deliver troops and supplies in the South Pacific? Will you deploy precious aircraft carriers to provide air cover? Do you screen the area with submarines? Or attempt to lure the enemy navy into a decisive surface engagement?
Yamato charging into the enemy fleet was everything I wanted to see.
Like literally sense the game came out 🤣
Although charging that close wasn't tactically sound as it's 18 inch guns out-ranged the cruisers, and at a more distant range with a higher arc of fire the cruisers would be receiving plunging fire onto their less armored top decks
Right!? I've been hoping for battleship on carrier for so many episodes I'm so happy.
@@soupwizard Yeah... That worked real well in the last episode.
@@soupwizard but this way was more F U N
This is exactly the kind of battle the Japanese envisaged for the Yamato.
You are wrong. The enemy carrier cant launch planes in this game. And in this game the ai didnt even launch planes in the campaign map.
@@michaeljava8736 I agree with you about the game, but I was referring to the historical sense.
this whole 'soften up with aircraft then finish off with surface ships' is infact inline with the doctrine approach the Japanese had at the time.
That Perth was like the squirrel that runs 90% across the road, only to turn back and get run over.
That's the best way to describe it. XD
that back to battle was brave, foolish but brave
America: Noooo you can’t use an outdated battleship to sink carriers! Aircraft carriers are the future!
Wolfpack: haha Kantai Kessen go brrrrrr.
Though it would be a bit of a different story if CV's could launch aircraft during battles.
@@crazywarriorscatfan9061 exept its only 1 Yorktown class carrier, so no. 6 CVs was required to sunk Musashi and 8 for Yamato.
Kongo BB: Haha cannon go BOOM
@@stallfighter It still would've changed the outcome of the battle. Maybe the Yamato would've been damaged and would have to be repaired for a month. Or maybe a second IJN destroyer gets sunk. The Americans still would've definitely lost, but it would've been a bit more costly for the IJN
@@crazywarriorscatfan9061 To be fair, they could have had airwings up before the battle.
Much like the real life Yamato Fleet, can't help but notice you're using AP shells on destroyers! XD
I had no HE
@@Wolfpack345 Oh okay I understand. I was just getting a sense of Deja vu when I saw that.
haha, destroyer go big hole
The goofy thing about this game is you only have time to appreciate the stunning visuals is during the little battles. This was really a huge one, yet you’re stuck on a gray grid to manage it while all the best shots go unseen. Wish it had a playback mode of some type.
I agree. Its probably fun to play but watching it is just stressful. Too much of a click fest for my taste.
Enterprise: “You can’t defeat me.”
Zuikaku: “I know, but he can.”
*Yamato comes bursting out of a squall line*
5:52
Yamato: (in Japanese) *SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!!*
私の小さな友達に挨拶
@Jack the Gestapo Dude i just put it into Google Translate for fun!😅 Neither do i speak japanese, nor do i have any intension of learnig it😂
The more...umm, accurate translation (taking nuance into account) IMO would be:
わたくしの小さな友人を紹介しましょう。
18.1 inch friend ;)

The mercy killing at the end with a single torpedo from Chokai was just perfect.
This is the best Series ive seen on your Channel. I love your Commentary and the Vids cant be long enough👍👍
Personally, my favorite is the U-Boat series, and this one my second favorite. Though I do love every single series that Wolfpack does!
And my favourite is the cold waters campaign.
If only there was an option to play the campaign against another human ... and then have Wolfpack's "intro narration". Get rid of all the illogical game mechanics and efficiencies (torpedoes had a pretty big failure rate IIRC for example) and expand the "campaign" to the entire war ... and this is going to be an epic game.
Wolfpack has great content. I'm a naval man for sure but I have to say that every Saturday I anxiously wait for the next episode in Yuri's story. I really like how Wolfie chooses stuff that others don't. Every other plays this game as the USA and he takes the IJN. Now we just need him to do a Battle of Britain series in a Boulton Paul Defiant.
This is a rather nice start into the weekend. May you have an enjoyable one and thank you for this upload. This series rocks!
Thank you for watching!
Such a cliff hanger with what not showing the after battle report!
I wanna know how many command points this gave. But I do imagine that we will see at least one IJN flattop soon™
Yes, I can’t wait to see wait for the episode.
The decisive surface engagement the IJN always wanted, perfectly executed by Wolf. Great video as per usual!
So, how much points you get?
F Miyuki. We will remember you.
I'm wondering the same
102 points
@@Wolfpack345 Oh Lord.
@@Wolfpack345 holy Tachanka. Another carrier, eh? Or "really big battleboi"?
Awesome
It was very satisfying to see the Yorktown go down first. I can imagine the Yamato's gunners broke out the fine sake when he sinking was confirmed.
That was a fine battle, commander.
Beautiful battle. Yamato was the hero of the battle, zigging and zagging and throwing 18 inch shells from her cannons. The destroyers were the surprise, tough little ship scoring hits. Wolfpack345, you did a great job keeping order at sea, conserving fire and targeting important enemies. Can’t wait for next one!
I'm afraid to admit I'm addicted to watching you play this game...
Haha happy to hear it!
Wolf, you are a machine when it comes to putting out great content, streaming, and your video productions! Love it, and another job well done, sir!
Thank you!
46:43 HMAS Perth, heave to and prepare to be boarded! YARRRR!!
HMAS Perth F*** You!!!
Japanese Heavy Cruiser Torpedo Ready! Fire!!!!
Perth's on the bottom of Sunda Strait with USS Houston, there's a reason both of those ships are listed as "unavailable."
@@cookudysu90 that was for Miyuki, don't really feel bad for sending Perth to the bottom in this situation
The difference in skill level between this gameplay and The Historical Gamer is astronomical.
Is Wolfpack or Historical doing better?
Wolfpack makes this look easy. I keep getting wrecked as the Japanese
@@Mrdrcaptaintroy wolfpack
he's good but hes going to have to get a lot more efficient once USN battleships start showing up
Baffles me how videos of such good quality are uploaded as quickly as they are
It will probably start slowing down soon ahha
the fact that you haven't fought a single fair fight means you've done well.
Or that the AI sucks....
@@Aren-1997 tbf the dev team of War on the Sea is pretty small and even some AAA dev teams also have trouble with AI so cut em a bit of slack.
To win you cannot fight fair or with predictable tactics, you must surprise your enemy, overwhelm them, outnumber them, and never fight fair.
I think it would be cool if they added an engagement where troops are being landed but your fleet or planes are near by and you can intercept the landing craft and merchant ships to lower the amount of supplies and troops actually make it ashore
And actual shore bombardment in-game.
That would be cool
Miyuki gave her life in a truly glorious battle
Japanese destroyers live longer if they launch all torpedoes at the beginning of a battle .... Type 93 torps sank as many IJN ships as they did enemy ships ...
That final torpedo shot on the Perth basically summed up this entire engagement 😅
But now the last question is: How many tonnes he sunk? and most importantly how many combat point he gained?
that's what I was wondering too
@@ryanhoward6041 me too.
WE WANNA KNOW !
Yup.
63,000 tons 102 command points.
Your callouts on when enemy ships are "done" are so spot on! You announce it and then as if on queue the game sounds the "sinking" alarm!
Haha I have been playing a lot :)
Love this series more then the u-boat series. Great work keep it up
Thank you!
if that Fletcher was the Willy D. Porter it would’ve been a more fitting death to engage the Yamato
Evil USS William D Porter:
Isn't cursed with bad luck
Doesn't nearly assassinate President Roosevelt on accident
And dies in honorable combat against the pride of the Japanese navy, rather than from a Kamikaze that missed but still managed to sink it anyways
Good ol’ Willy D 😂
Tbh I hope they make the Aircraft Carrier AI more difficult. No way a carrier force didn't see the Yamato taskforce coming from hundreds of miles away and no way a carrier would have allowed a surface fleet to get that close without constant air harassments.
Hey Wolfpack! Just started to watch this series today and I am totally addicted. A quick tip for you when it comes to the torpedoes is that when you put the spread, the bigger the distance the more the spread will be, so putting 9 degrees will throw all of your torpedoes off target. Its better to group them up a little tighter at 1-2 degrees at such ranges. The spread will still be good when they arrive at the target, its just 9 degrees becomes a very big gap at such ranges. Love the videos man! Keep it up! :D
Wolfpack: "I'm not going to mess with those destroyers"
Also Wolfpack 5 min later "We're mopping up!", destroying each and every of those destroyers. :-)
Ansd where was the american CAP?
Admitly I thought it was going to be a much harder fight.
@@Wolfpack345 it should be, the amount of torpedoes the enemy could've launched was potentially disastrous. But you did it right, splitting the formation into 3 divisions, flipping course as soon as you see torpedoes incoming, etc.
@@reggiekoestoer1511 US torpedoes had abysmal range and inoperable detonators. Granted, he dis get too close.
Wait what, Miyuki? tsk! Seeing ghosts... :P
Haha indeed!
Pride of a nation, a beast made of steel...
Yamato and the Japaneaseeeeeee
It's great watching you, every time I say, "I wouldn't do that" you come out on top. Good job.
The build up to this point over the last several episodes was really worth it. So much fun!
Wow, where have these games been all my life?? This and the uboat game are awesome!
Truly truly a great derisive victory.
And congratulations to Yamato, you have earn your battle stars and hold true to your fearsome reputation today. 🎖🐺
WOW - What a battle! Great leadership, admiral! Especially the final sinking of the Perth class heavy cruiser had something of a greek tragedy ;)
Best episode yet! Good job! One destroyer in exchange for an entire Carrier Task Force is amazing!
You deserve the Order of the Chrysanthemum for this victory
Thank you. I binged this whole series. Keep it up. I love when the AI messes with you. It’s funny.
I caught up with this series in a day, now it’s my very favorite TH-cam series!
Hey Wolf, thank you! I found your channel cause of this game. Ive got an interest in WWII, this is great. So now Im bingewatching Silent Hunter on the side, as an added bonus. Great content, good knowledge. Your "roleplaying" as the japanese side is totally new to me, Im hooked. Keep up the good work. P.s. I bought the game myself, just because of your playthrough. D.s.
Wolfpack> Fires high calibre AP at destroyers
Destroyers > *Laughs in Taffy 3*
But unlike Taffy 3, they got screwed anyway.
I really wish the AI's carriers would actually launch planes to defend themselves. Would have made for a much more interesting fight. But the devs are always updating this game, so maybe that's something they will fix. Great series :)
5:30
What is the carrier task force doing?
"The enemy is upon us! Orders sir!?"
"Quick, huddle like sheep! Maybe they won't notice us!"
You know, I've just finished Ep. 13 kinda like 2 minutes earlier, and I was planning on get some sleep, but after I saw this on my feed, screw it, I'm definitely gonna watch this first
Your deffenitly the best youtuber iv seen play this game. Really glad I found your channel. Keep it up wolfpack
Worth the wait over several episodes. This is beginning to be my favorite video series.
The death of that British cruiser with all the Japanese ships circling her reminded me of a cat playing with a half-dead mouse, throwing it up in the air and batting at it with its paws. That was some battle!
Australian, HMS for UK ships HMAS for Aus ships.
I LOVE IT THE BEST SERIES ON YOUR CHANNEL EVER.I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE NEXT ONE
Hats off to the Perth. True Samurai, that Aussie crew.
Game creators, sponsor the Wolfpack & I purchase game !! My entertainment budget is limited, I would not even be considering a purchase if the Wolfpack weren't making these highly entertaining videos showing off your product. Thank you.
The Yamato is super aesthetic
For sure!
Im really enjoying this series wolfpack. Excellent work👍👍
Love this videos Wolfpack!! Its like watching a WWII naval documentary I love it :)
Had me at the edge of my seat the whole battle, what an amazing fight!
My condolences to the crew of the IJN Miyuki. First surface combatant in the IJN sunk so far in this campaign.
Oh Perth. Poor Perth. Came back to fight like a man...only to die like a dog... ( ;_;)
Good graphics so far. This is a game for 2 opponents which I like. They really went to exact specs on the ships. Real good series
You ambushed that task force so hard everyone forgot how to do anything
A bit late to this vid but still gotta say, imagine how the Fletcher captain felt when the Yamato's main guns started turning towards their ship xD
Could throw rocks at it an one torpedoe. Ruthless! Love it!
seeing those smoke trails in the distance looks so cool.
A salute for the last ship fighting the IJN surface group, despite low on ammo, out gunned, and out number. Despite running away in the first and second part of the battle, it serves as an epilogue of the the Great Shift of the Guadalcanal Campaign for both the Americans and the Japanese.
I had to go to work, with only the Perth left, but that was a treat when I got home. You totally destroyed them.
Love this campaign! I always enjoy it and have been waiting for this episode!!!
Finally im early to one of your vids love the series keep up the good work
That mercy kill on the Perth was quite satisfying to watch. I love watching your WotS videos I'm eagerly awaiting for them to iron out kinks in the game before I buy it.
The in-game title of this episode almost made me read as "Hent@i Kassen"
Poor Perth, that was brutal at the end there. great battle TY
Just beutiful thanks to your vids i buyed the game myself and i really thank you having myself much fun with it and keep watching your vids keep it up
Great surface action. It was absolutely entertaining 😊
Decisive Battle doctrine working like intended is real eyecandy here.
Gotta Sink'em All! Like some crazy Pokemon/High School Fleet crossover episode.
A valid and well won victory. EXCEPT, where were the aircraft from the aircraft carrier? That was a daytime engagement; no air cover? Well shucks, we didn't think it was necessary in a time of war?
Grrr! but loving the play Wolfie, it's not your fault that the enemy is foolish.
Banzai!
I could hear the imperial march playing in my head while watching that.
I salute you admiral! you achieved what Yamamoto couldn't!
So, why can’t the carrier launch planes in its defense? Seems like a flaw in the AI
Like the whole Series seems totally gamey, sadly.
You as the player can. Not sure why the AI did not.
@@getthis1987 How so? How do you expect me to do anything differently? I am playing with what is given to me.
I wonder if it’s possible they were all shot down prior to the fleet engagement?
By the time the carrier s engaged, launching planes leave them super vulnerable to those planes being detonated w/ their payload. It's basically adding critical hit points to the deck of the carrier.
One thing that would have been the cherry on top: if Fubuki had turned around to pick up survivors from Miyuki. Even if it's not a game mechanic :)
Literally the most kantai kessen thing ever. Probably that's how it was supposed to look in the eyes of IJN High Command. Such a humiliating defeat would probably make the USN stop and rethink what they were doing- heads would roll. Also look, you can easily defeat enemies without the manual aim cheese... You just need the Yamato!
Nice work, wolfpack-sama! The gods are pleased with your work for the greater good of our nation. Banzai!
This guy most be doing something good to not get dislikes
I didn't even know about this game and it looks great. So i will have to get it. Reminds me of Victory at Sea which I had a great deal of fun with.
Gosh, the Perth really lived up to her namesake.
So full on. Enjoying the series.
Mine was the other way around as I play the US and have the NC and SD battleships with few cruisers and destroyers supported by CAF aircraft and try to destroy the Japanese carrier task group north of the Solomons
The one thing that would be fun to see in this game, is the colored shells the Japanese used to help ranging.
I really do enjoy watching you play as the Japanese, esp with everyone else playing as the US. Sweet!
Uuuu I can’t wait to see this one :3 You’ve build up to it quite nicely. This will be a nice evening :3
Very beautiful episode i wait too much the next to see the sequel of the campaign
I had hoped to time the final battle with my Saturday morning coffee, but I will take it with my Friday lunch.
Love the video and the series.
A simple Japanese pronunciation note. All syllables have equal emphasis (nominally). My ears hear a Japanese speaker saying YA-ma-to rather than Ya-MA-to.
(Source: two weeks in Japan, and many corrections by my Japanese gf in our time together.)
Love these series.
Imagine you're watching 14 episodes to see a Carrier sinking and you get 10 seconds of footage and a meele fighting Yamato ☠😂
As those DD's got closer, I would have used the Yamato and Kongo's secondaries to burn them up before they got into torp range. Also, you had tons of Zeros, could have used those earlier to strafe the DD's as well since they were land based and are easily replaced. Battle could have been over faster. Still, an outstanding victory on your part.

I broke my spectacles.
