    1942: The world is at war
    The Japanese Empire expands throughout the Pacific where Allied forces attempt to halt its spread. A desperate struggle for control of the Solomon Islands is now underway.
    How will you protect your transports as they deliver troops and supplies in the South Pacific? Will you deploy precious aircraft carriers to provide air cover? Do you screen the area with submarines? Or attempt to lure the enemy navy into a decisive surface engagement?

    Hey all!
    I got quite a few comments in the last episode asking why I did not target the ship that is farther away first and then the closer one with my submarines. I agree this would be the best way to hit multiple targets! I do this in all of the subsims I play. However, War on the Sea does not have any manual TDC or other options for me to really mess with my torpedo solutions. I have to rely on the solution given to me by the crew in most cases. (There is manual firing which I did in ep.1) Low solution values tend to result in your torpedoes missing. Even at proper angles.
    My strategy is to get my solution as high as possible on the main ship I am targeting to really ensure hits on it. I generally am firing this salvo when my SOL is as high as possible. Once the torpedo's are away I transition to another ship and fire at a much lower SOL. If I hit the target I fire at last then great! It is sugar on top! If not then at least I severely damage or sink the primary target.

      You can calculate torpedo triangle manually, but doing that EVERY TIME in 1940s where TDC was standart-issue on all subs is dumb. We should at least get gyro angle information or lead indicator on minimap like in Cold Waters after SOL is high enoth

      I think that the second resupply convoy was a different one from the first, not a bug. The first one had a Portland that was sunk, and in the second one there was no Portland... So you might have two invasion fleets running around.

      @Peter Morch. That's no bug but simply a very limited ship rooster for AI (and players as well) to choose from, so be prepared to seeing plenty of Portlands, Brooklyns, and Atlantas on the US side during this campaign... unless devs will drop some bigger ships package to the game.

      @@Mechanized85 Any resourses on this project? I was reading Japanese Destroyer Captain when Capt. Tameichi (author) mentioned his Yahagi received sound-homing torps in Operation Ten-go (escorting Yamato on her last convey to Okinawa). Due to American air strikes, Yahagi dropped all these torps without a chance to encounter any surface targets.

      I'd like em to be dark, hush it. I'm a humie, not an owl, we sods can't see the broadside of a First rate Man o' war to save our lives in a pitch black area, though, there's not much chance of surviving once around 50 guns are pointed at you.

    oh "respawning" sunk ships, I think I had the same issue, but thought I might have mixed up task forces, well, I guess it might be game not me.

      I suspect that since you can just requisition more ships based on the campaign points you get, you can just remake the same or clones of ships since the naming pool is so small. Like you could have four Yamato's if you could afford it I guess. So if you could name ships or if the pool was larger things might be a bit less jarring. The same should be true, or similar for the AI.

      It was actually a different TF. Not a bug like I originally thought. I know others have complained about this being an issue however.

      @@Wolfpack345 ohhh, well, thanks. I guess the other theory of the AI basically spamming TFs that are almost identical it is then. I would really love if they would add the recon system from 1942: The Pacific Air War from Microprose from 1994 and I think it also had spotting mechanics with dots and timestamps of the sightings.
      Was quite fun to see how clunky the controls are and how extremely smooth the look in all those videos.

    I’d strongly recommend the Kongo class for your second task force. Very fast so it won’t slow down your cruisers, lets the task force move quick on the map to intercept enemies, with easily enough armour and firepower to rip apart cruisers.
    Not super expensive either so you can still bring some CLs, CAs and DDs for a well rounded task force

    At 22:44 you hit the Destroyer, Contact 2 with a torpedo. Looks like it ran away and eventually sank after losing visual contact.

    I think if you are near an island your task force can shell the beaches to help either an amphibious op or to support your grunts in defence. Same menu as the one to unload troops and supplies

    You're work is fantastic, I have been playing some IJN myself. Throughout my play throughs the USN sends 2 task forces of Transports always, 6 merchants, 2 destroyers, 2 heavy cruisers looping around the sounds side of the Solomon's. Even though I know they are coming it always gives me trouble, keep up the great work!!

    The Guadalcanal campaign started in August of 1942. Japanese naval vessels did not have radar until late 1943.

      @@Balladency95 Don't try PvE multiplayer mode in BSP... your computer opponent will spam the battle zone with 30+ BBs & 30+ CAs. No chance to form my fleet before the game crashed. RIP

    That second destroyer designated as "2" was hit by a torpedo at some stage and sunk soon after. It can actually be seen arround 22:52 as Wolfpack says "Our torpedos have missed"

      In the background right after the camera changed it's focus on that cruiser, you can even see the explosion of the torpedo. ( 22:49 - 22:52)

    Eliminating that group must have been a heavy blow to the US forces and will certainly buy you precious time to get you base in Guadacanal up to speed. I was a bit surprised to see that your ships ended up repairing all the damage 100%, very welcome but I'm not sure if that is quite realistic.
    Nonetheless, good start and really looking forward to the next episodes!

    Awesome, you get ot experience game breaking bugs too! In my game, i sank an enemy transport fleet three times in a row and blew all of ammo doing so only for it to not only drop off troops on Guadalcanal but make it all the way back to its home port to try again. I also sank the same heavy cruiser 4 times before and it keeps coming back.

    Put the 3 cruiser in a line, go head on, when the first start shoting you turn, making all the three to use all guns and torpedos, then you turn again, so they can launch the torpedos on the other side, always manouver, 20knos or 38knos is the same if you are goin in a straight line.

    You should fire at the furthest cruiser first, then calculate the wait time, then fire at the 2nd closer cruiser. That way all your torpedoes arrive at same time and you don't have to worry about them evading.

    Crushing defeat for the Americans. Main concerns: Where and how many American carriers? Taking out cruisers is fine but losing the reconnaissance abilities of your subs might not be worth the trade. Can you get the Mitsubishi G4M?

    I would do a light carrier group as like you said in the other eps. there is what seems to be a US carrier group. A light carrier group would have the benefit of speed with a couple of cruisers and DD's. As I have no idea how much a fleet carrier would cost but out of all the IJN fleet CV's classes the Shokaku would be the best as it had the largest air wing out of the other 3 classes at 84 planes.

      according to the tool-tip during silent running reloading and repairs are stopped.

      Repairing compartments with 0 integrity is impossible. Even pumping out water isn’t doable, so In this game it’s death for the sub if it gets hit by even one depth charge

    I already liked this series, and your really good with submarines. You get more points to command if you sink enemy ships, not taking commands. I think you should also build a base on new Georgia. To shorten up supplies so you don't have to go all the way back. Shorter distance will be your friend and keep harassing with submarines.

    I experimented quite a bit with HE and AP vs a DD. I've found that the HE is good for destroying modules, such as if a heavy cruiser was to find a DD getting too close and wanted to destroy guns and torpedoes, though AP killed the DD considerably faster. I recommend the same strategy for your cruisers. Use HE to destroy modules and AP against all targets that are not much of a threat and that you want sunk quickly, such as the cargo ships near the end of your video. Good luck!

    A small but key element that puts you above the rest Wolfpack is that you upload in 1440p. I know it is probably agony waiting for a video to upload but man does it make so much of a difference on the receiving end and just gives your content that extra seasoning of quality. Makes for a very pleasant viewing experience on top of whatever great stuff you're doing in any given game.
    Looking forward to the next WotS upload, your content is absolutely on fire at the moment!

    The damage control section really reminds me of the old Great Naval Battles games. Same kind of sections, counter flooding included. This could be the real successor to those titles :O

    I have found that telling a ship to go to 0 Knots helps with fires.

    Nice video, agree the nights are far too bright. Star shells are good for the game mechanics of firing solutions, but it would be much more cinematic if you had truly dark nights. U-Boat is REALLY good for this, with a good IPS display those nights are truly inky black, only if it's a full moon do I feel like turning it off (as full moons make it suprisingly bright).

    Its normal the ai always sends out two convoys thats why its so confusing when you see it for the first time

      There is a bug related to this though, you can often encounter the same convoy again but with all its ships inexpicably intact. Unless the enemy has 5 separate convoys all with 2 destroyers and 2 heavy cruisers stacked ontop of eachother in such a way i don't fight them in one battle, it's a bug.

      @@VynalDerp But the ships Change the ship class stays the same but the ship type changes and if you destroy one ship it does not make sense that the ship has been replaced for the next encounter

      @@markantek idk man, the duplicate ships in my ship sinking record seems to indicate a bug.
      It's not like you can tell enemy ship names anyway.

    You always fire at the rear most ship first, that gives you time to get a solution on the closer ship, then you torpedoes will hit pretty much simultaneously.

    22:42 looks like you had fire there but there were no crews assigned to extinguish that fire.

      But most USN warships are equipped with surface radar early in 1940 in WoS... IJN can't stand a chance when USN detects them far enough and starts the shelling with radar advantage.

    I wonder if the AI is going to zig zag surface vessels and perhaps put them in other than line ahead formation when in sub infested waters? Right now it seems submarines have quite an advantage.

    If you want to repair on the subs you have to take them out of silent running, same with reloading torps

    In those surface engagements you need to have your secondary firing at the enemy dds. US dds have a punch, you want to start wearing them down or they will kill your own destroyers.
    Also, you had the dds firing AP at cruisers. that is pretty pointless, and they have very limited ammo. get them firing HE, perhaps even targeting enemy dds, even though they will be outgunned.
    when firing torp spreads, pick different targets. you fired 40 torpedoes at one target, so naturally when it changed course a bit, everything missed. you want to spread them out much more, and at multiple targets for best effect. a few hits here and there are much more valuable than trying to get lucky and sink one ship outright.

    9th August 1942 23:31.
    We just won our first battle since Midway and the mood on the ship jumped up radically.
    However, what we did not expect after we received the initial report from I-15 who barely escaped the first convoy escort, that there was in fact two American convoys in the area, possibly with one of them aiming to land counter-invasion at the Guadalcanal... but at the end of the day, it was the American side that draws the short straw here.
    We received reports from Takao who took a considerable beating from American ships due to the fact that she was too far from us and Chokai and because of that, she draws most of the fire from the American heavy cruisers.
    This fact, however, allows Mogami and Chokai very precise aim at the enemy ships, and very soon leading Northampton class started to burn at her entire length.
    We launch our torpedoes, but it turned out that the enemy was able to outmaneuver almost all of them when we get the report that a second American destroyer very rapidly sunk despite the fact that she wasn't targeted by any of our ships since Takao and our own second destroyer Miyuki struggled at that point with containing own raging fires and internal damages, and Fubuki was busy trading shots with Benson class, that's why we assumed that she very possible got hit by one or two torpedoes after all, but in the battlefield chaos raging around us it was practically impossible to determine from which ship said torpedoes might come.
    There was a bit hair raised moment when out of nowhere after we confirmed the sinking of the Northhampton, Benson showed up right at our port side, and at the very brief moment, we expected to see her launching torpedoes right in our own hull, and at this range... she couldn't absolutely miss...
    But nothing happens... which leads us to the assumption that she expended her torpedo compliment early in the battle and now her launchers were empty, so I ordered our main guns to focus on her... and soon she slips under burning at her entire length, after which we switch our focus on the remaining Pensacola and together with Chokai we made rather quick work on her.
    After the last American warship sunk all that's remain was to deal with transports... however, we were rather concerned about Takao and Miyuki's status because while we dealt with Pensacola both ships still struggled to contain fires and floodings.
    But when Fubukli reported that the last remaining transport just sunk Takao and Miyuki reported that their damage control teams not only dealt with damages but were able to bring both ships into full battle shape... which looked like a miracle on its own when I recall how especially Takao burned out in so many places during the battle.
    Then I received a report about the state of our ammunition chambers, and it wasn't looked too good and our artillery officer stated very clearly that we won't be able to conduct another battle like this without risk to run out of ammunition in the middle of it, and that would spell an absolute disaster.
    So we are preparing to set the course back to base for resupply and to be honest to perform a Takao and Miyuki's battle readiness examination, however, we did receive a message from HQ that they do consider sending us a reinforcement in form of the another Task Force as relief, but I'm still inclined to our supply chief's opinion that Guadalcanal should receive big enough port so ships our size could be resupply without the necessity to abandoning the area without security for too long.
    Of course, there is still a mystery over that American carrier which we known is somewhere out there, but for now, the current battle score is definitive in our favor, and who knows, maybe this victory will force the said carrier to reveal itself so we will finally learn with what we might soon dealt... and perhaps sending to this area one or two additional submarines as a precaution and some fighter CAPs from the airfield to even further reduce the element of surprise for Americans wouldn't be a bad idea after all?...

    I hope they will expand the game much further like what they did with South China Sea in Cold Waters. And btw I must admit that the soundtrack of this game is unbelievably good. It really comes to shine in your intros.
