  • FINALLY WE ARE BACK!!! The computer is fixed and I can upload videos once again! I am trying to stay on an every other day basis to keep everyone entertained! If you're new here, I'm Brock and I've worked at a fish store for many years and I am here to share my personal knowledge of fish back to you :)
    This beautiful parrot fish will not go unseen. The colors will light up any fish tank. While in the wild they do pick at SPS corals in order to sharpen their teeth, so reef tanks can be very risky. BUT check in the comments to see if someone else has had a different experience with them.

    Hopefully this isn't taken the wrong way, I just want to make sure this amazing fish doesn't get unneeded hate. They are reef safe pretty much the only safe parrot while I'm sure there are some cases of nipping I have one in a mixed reef with no problems, I have a friend who has had one in mixed for 6 years no problems also aquaforest has one in their main DT. I think a lot of it comes down to if you feed them enough give them lots of nori and food and. You shouod have no problems with them.

    I have Quoyi Parrotfish. Very reef safe . He will chase similar large wrasses like lunare . He us fine with my fairies, leopards and coris wrasses .Its not necessarily
    the swimming that knocks rocks over its the rock biting in its feeding habits. They can give a powerful tug with their size and strong beak. Delicate SPS may be at risk more to this than eating it,but have seen it be fine. Avoids chomping coral. Just the rock around it. Will scrape algea growing on my clips but hasnt ate the nori sheets with my tangs. Its so odd. Eats pellets and other foods like a machine though. They are prone to internal parasites so its important ro treat them for that before you add it to your system and they should eat fine and live well. Parasites Seems to be the biggest issue with them surviving. Great interesting fish.gets pretty big . Id say 125 gallon long style minimum with good rockwork

    Hey. Good video. This fish will do amazing in your reef tank. Trust me on this. I live in the Caribbean. I have one in my reef tank right now infact the best place for it is a reef tank because that’s there natural environment.

  • @coralreef909
    @coralreef909 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    This belongs in a full blown reef aquarium with lots of coral cover. He appears very stressed out in your so called fish only set up and won’t last long term. He swims in circles as your tank is too small a confined space. His dorsal fins are torn, another warning sign your parrotfish is not happy. No hiding places to feel secure. Stress eventually leads to illness. If you don’t want to do the work of maintaining a full fledged Coral reef aquarium it is best to find your parrotfish a new home. Give him to a reef keeper with the appropriate reef type aquarium to meet its needs.

    Uhh.... Kind of weird that you mentioned they eat sps because in nature, this particular species is a strict algae grazing herbivore. I mean I guess there's always a possibility that it eats corals as I've seen regal tangs mow down zoas and lps but I've seen a few of these and have one and knock on wood it hasn't eaten a hard coral. With that noted though, most other Parrotfish do eat stony material in search of algae. They are biting coral/rocks to process algae.

    I just add one of these fish to my tank, but he doesn't seem super hyper. More shy than everything, but still eats. (It's only been 2 days) do they take awhile to acclimate to a new environment?

    • @BrockLeonard
      @BrockLeonard  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Chriswell I definitely want to do a video on them, but for right now, they are hitchhikers that normally come from your rocks and after your tank is so old (about a year) they will breed on their own in the tank. Their main purpose in an aquarium is to be a food source to things like mandarin gobies and dragonets. You can also buy them by the bottle and dump them in the tank to speed the process up.
