    Thank you for showing us this very colourful parrot fish.He also seems to like to sharpen his beak on the tank glass!
    Is the spotted drum ok?He seems very subdued.I hope he's ok.

      Thank you Barbara! Yeah he's a funny one, has been doing this since his previous owner, who already mentioned this "trait" haha!
      Yeah the Drum is doing absolutely fine! Probably hung over from the night before :P
      Cheers!

    How often do you do water changers and at what percent?

  • @karma307
    @karma307 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I just put this fish in my tank and I noticed that it is extremely shy, my tangs usually harass it and it spends its time in a corner without moving, it hasn't eaten anything yet.

    • @DutchReefer
      @DutchReefer  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmm that doesn't sound like their typical behavior. Do you have a lot of tangs that group together or do they harass it individually?

      @@DutchReefer Today I took out and put the 2 aggressive tangs in the sump to see if the parrot improves.

    Great channel, congratulations,
    can i ask about the filtration on the big tank ? the dimensions of the sump ? do you have a refugium ? etc

      Eduardo Vejarano check out his video series. He covers off on all those questions. He does a really nice job

    • @eduardve
      @eduardve 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ryanesposito5755 I checked all the videos from this serie and there is nothing about the filtration or sump.
      On the older tank he had, the redsea max, he showed something about the sump. But I'm interested on this bigger installation.

      @DutchReefer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Eduardo! Yeah of course, I will cover it in one of my next videos! It's quite a big sump (about 1,50 x 70) and has Caulerpa Taxifolia macro algae, an UV-c unit and a Skimmer in the first chamber. Second chamber has another skimmer, a Phosphate reactor and the return pump. Thanks!

    • @DutchReefer
      @DutchReefer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm they're generally very peaceful, so I think the question is will your trigger leave it alone or hunt it down :)))

    Thank you, I have been seriously considering a Quoyi Parrotfish for my 400g. I notice the lovely gonioporas you used to have are missing, did something happen to them?

    • @DutchReefer
      @DutchReefer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool, that would definitely work! Yeah the goniopora have been a) 2 sold b) 2 died and c) 1 in my nano reef now. My big tank has too much nutrients for goniopora to thrive currently

    very tough fish to keep long term

    • @DutchReefer
      @DutchReefer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm do you have personal experiences on this? What could be the reason for this? Slowly starving or other issues health wise?

    • @silvernblackr35

      @@DutchReefer it's a fish that i have loved and researched and tried to talk myself into since 10 years of starting my first reef tank. Unfortunately there are very few success stories with them, they need a lot of grazing area (mature rock) so they are in direct competition with tangs in your tank for food and they slowly starve to death after 6 months- 1year or just seem healthy and die mysteriously, for a fish that can live up to 20 years this is not good. They also can get very large and need a much larger tank than what is recommended, 250-300gal minimum. I have seen princess parrots while snorkeling which were over a foot and a half long and very thick, much larger than what their info says. I believe it's just one of those fish that require a public aquarium sized tank or specialized setup, it sucks because it is a beautiful and very smart species. I hope you have better luck than most people, beautiful fish you have there.

      I bought it from a fellow reefer that was going to quit and turn his tank into a piranha tank (2000L)
