  • Evan Hansen (Ben Platt) and his friend Jared (Nik Dodani) begin to write fake emails from Connor (Colton Ryan) in order to make their friendship appear real in 'Sincerely Me'.
What is Dear Evan Hansen (2021) about?
A screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, Tony, Grammy and Emmy award winning Ben Platt (Pitch Perfect films) reprises his role as Evan Hansen, an anxious, isolated high-school student who's aching for understanding and belonging amid the chaos and cruelty of the social media age. He soon embarks on a journey of self-discovery when a letter he wrote for a writing exercise falls into the hands of a grieving couple whose son took his own life.

I thought it was such a beautiful, cute, wholesome and catchy way of telling his friend that he misses him and that he hopes the best for his wellbeing with a comedic touch. Then I saw the replies of the people who were explaining what the song actually meant as well as the summary for the musical, I swear I've never been more confused at the amount of, "Oh he's singing about a kid who killed himself and they were never actually friends," AND I WATCHED THE MUSICAL AND I BROKE DOWN CRYING.
