Dude. I practically stopped exercising for a year. Had horrible pops whenever I lifted a few pounds of weight. If I were to rotate my arms outward they would pop and crack, audibly, sometimes painfully.
I just came across this video a week ago and for the first time in about a year I actually spent a couple hours without pops and cracks.
Physical therapists told me to rest. Sports therapists told me to 'just train them'
Then Jeff told me to raise my fucking arms while standing against a wall and making sure my elbows and hand don't come off until my arms start going over my head.
Jeff's solution worked. I could muster up the courage to pick up light weights again and surprisingly enough only a few stray cracks. But doing this exercise instantly relieved them.
Jeff my man, you're a God.

Dude , how we suppose to do it? he confused me. Are we trying to keep the place between the index and the thumb and also the elbow in touch with the wall while raising or we try to put the other side of the palm together and bring them inn front?

    • @melissat5719
      @melissat5719 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

So what I do is keep my elbows and thumbs touching the wall for as long as I can as I go up. There will be a point where your elbows just cannot touch the wall anymore, and that's fine but keep your thumbs on the wall as you go up. I then just go up until my palms touch, then I go down trying to get my elbows back on the wall until I reach the starting position.
Mix this with the pendulum swing, and some rotator cuff exercises and you will most likely feel a difference. Also stop pushing (chest) exercises for a while until you heal. I also found out I started sleeping on my side (new for me), so I got a softer bed and that is helping me a TON. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Just like that, I was unable to lift my left arm let alone work out from the pain and numbness. I went to youtube to do some research and came across this channel and you have completely changed how I look at lifting. I let my shoulder recover for 2 weeks then started doing this routine to help my shoulder along with a proper shoulder warm up I saw you do in another video. I also found out I was doing bench press and a few other moves way wrong which was the root cause of my shoulder issues. Jeff,
Thanks for all the videos! I have had 3 surgeries (plus the post surgery PT), 10+ cortisone injections, 1 epidural injection, multiple steroid pill rounds, changed diet, done acupuncture, rolfing, massage therapy, chiropractic work, etc over the last 6 years to fix a shoulder problem that causes pain, clicking, and popping. My golf career was stopped as I was a top player in the world and this happened my junior year of college and was persistent for years until I just could no longer play golf anymore. I have tried so many things and after over a year of sort of giving up on finding a solution I have found this video and am now wanting to find a physical/strengthening routine to fix this shoulder issue as I believe posture, re-alignment, and muscle growth may be the answer that no orthopedic has ever agreed with. I am going to start with this exercise daily with the hopes to get back to being pain free and maybe even one day be able to pursue my golf career once again.

It’s kind of weird to think that a *doctor* can go on giving their patients crap advice for decades while a physical therapist for a very profitable sports team won’t last more than a season if what he’s recommending doesn’t work. Or maybe it isn’t weird but it took me a while to get over the “how can he know more about this stuff than a doctor” mindset.

I went to a bone & joint doctor, biggest mistake I made. Guy ruined any progress I had made, forced my shoulder in a bad position then said go get an MRI, can’t believe I did it. No one has a cure for the cuff, this is as good as it will get.

Hey Jeff I was wondering if you could do a video on how to safely come back to the gym after a shoulder dislocation. What exercise to do? How to strengthen it?
    Thank you:)

Yes and how to come back to the gym after a anterior SC joint dislocation. I have shoulder impingment because i have sc joint dislocation and don't know if i can ever the train upperbody again. That would be awesome because there is almost no information what i can do to make the pain go away :(

i havent been able to train for the last 3 weeks. my right shoulder felt like it was dislocated or impinged or something had broken off in there but it wasnt getting any better. i had full range of movement but there was slight pain when i moved my arm and my shoulder felt out of position and my right traps felt like they were gona snap. anyways ive been stretching and using those massage balls but after 3 weeks it wasnt any better. i just did 10 reps of this exercise against the wall and as soon as i stopped all the muscles in my back felt a burn and then relaxed and my shoulder is 100% better. instant relief. just my right traps are starting to ache again but i think thats from 3 weeks of impingement or nerve entrapment or maybe something was broken off in there and this exercise cleared it out. anyways ive only done 2 reps of 5 so ill write back later if it works long term.

@@HomeStudioBasics hi i didnt notice any event like that sorry i was hitting a heavy bag for 1 hour and then did some weights and exercises like dips i could feel something was damaged because i have broken this shoulder before but it wasn't bad at that stage got worse that night and stayed like that for 3 weeks spreading up my shoulder to my traps etc. this exercise 100% helped all symptoms. i broke the same shoulder wrestling years before tore the labrum nearly 360 slap, bankhart and posterior. i didnt feel that either when it happened until 5 minutes later when my arm started tingling and then i couldnt move my arm at all for 3 weeks. that was way worse than this more recent time. i was told back then i needed surgery but i did physio rehab scapula exercises and took nearly 2 years to be 100% hitting the heavy bag again. this more recent injury just took 3 weeks of not getting better and then 1 week with just this exercise to be back 100% now.

I am 47, and have done laborious work my whole life, and its beat my shoulders into submission. When I raise my arms above my head, usually people near me cringe from the sounds coming from them. I woke up this morning after I rolled over in bed and felt my shoulder nearly dislocate. I found this video in a search for what could be wrong (finally) and gave it a shot. Why not at this point? I did 10 reps of this exercise and I am able to notice a serious improvement!!! I am adding this to my daily routine!!!! TYSM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
