As a young kid I remember the introduction of this GM model which would have been in the Fall of 1961. I was a big fan of the innovative front grille which protruded from the quarter panels enhancement as in encasing the headlights and grille. It was a head turner.

This is back before SO MANY foreign cars flooded our American market. Before So much inflation. Before labor costs got out of control to American car companies, just pure style. Beautiful car!

Love even the cool steering wheel back then they really made some unique-looking ones and not all of them were round. Hard to do that nowadays since they contain an airbag.

Beautiful car!....My parents had the station wagon of that year.White with red interior. I'd say that's the car I liked the best out of all they're car's they've had over the years.

Tks for the memories! I could write a dissertation on a car we got when I was 12, but suffice to say this one is identical except my dad didn't order the optional color-keyed hubcaps (as shown) because he was still bitter from losing the premium hubcap off his 1960 Super 88 and paying so much for the replacement.

GM alternators came out in '62 but in most cases only used on cars with A/C until alternator production caught up with car production the following year.

You had the "slim Jim" 3-sp Hydramatic; GM tried to economize and instead of the proven 4-sp Hydramatic produced the defective 3-sp version. The 4-s was used on the heavier GM models; my '62 Bonneville had 4-sp and performance was awesome. The 3-sp always felt like it shifted 1st to 3rd with 2nd missing; also had heat problems, especially if pulling trailers.

I had a '62 OLDS Starfire hardtop while I was in the U.S. Army in'1967...I recall that it it was a real gas hog for Premium gas..The auto trans sort of surged while it changing gears that I learned to dislike...

Theodore Schneider - How much would you pay for it? 😊. Not for sale, but everything has its price.

10,000 Because I would have to ship it to East coast and rechrome bumpers and replace some trim

Theodore Schneider well the car already is on the East Coast and I paid almost twice that and I got the car cheap so $10,000 StarFire is the car needing a full restoration just saying

Had her 4 years, only issue was rear main seal was leaking, which I knew when I bought it. Reinstalled the engine a few months ago... never had a problem with the car, no tow trucks, no overheating, transmission works perfect...

I owned one back around 1973. It was a good car and the only problem I had with it is the lifters made noise when I drove it hard. It was pretty fast and it turned a 16.29 et at Pacific Raceways in Kent WA.
