A friend of mine in high school had 3 of these - all GS’s, all black. One350 auto, one 400 4-spd, and one 455 auto. Our last day senior year (‘82) he gave me a ride home in the 400 4 spd and he opened it up for me. I’ll never forget that. Haven’t seen hime since, so I don’t know if he still has them, but these have been one of my all-time favorites! Gorgeous cars, and that 455 was a monster!

    Goodday Brett,
Far out dude I played that idle through my speakers at 110 % & love ittttt.
I am so so envious of your Buick, it is a masterpiece.
Can you imagine back in 1970, you just bought this GS / Stage 1 & every morning you have to listen to this symphony of muscle before heading off to work.
Imagine the poor neighbors, but it is 1970 & this was normal.
    Love your GS,
    Here is why.
All black & no vinyl roof.
    Both P/S & D/S mirrors
    Tacho Dash
    Wheel arch moulds
    Sill panel mould
    Chrome on Black
    Colour coded match rims
    Dog Dish Hubcaps
    Bucket Seats
Just needs a centre console to finish it off, but mate it is a fucking awrsome GS love it.
Enjoy the rumble before the Woke & LGBT alphabet people & Greenies deam it offensive.
Hope to come to the states one day * meet & greet you & you take me for a fang in the beast of all beast.

Incidentally, that's how it was ordered new.
When a wheel option wasn't checked off, that's what you got. The car was repossessed very early on and the dealership swapped out the steelies/caps for the flashier chrome rally wheels. I was lucky enough to find these correct 14×6 wheels last year and had the caps sitting on a shelf for the last 20 years.

Is there a difference between cold start and hot start?

    • @brettslater872
      @brettslater872  ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely.
The car isn't warmed up on a cold start. Although this carburetor is pretty close to fuel injection, it's ultimately not, so it idles much better when warmed up.

In the Jan '70 issue of Motor Trend,
they tested 2 identical GS 455 stage 1 cars. One 4pd, one Automatic.
They even hired a professional driver.
      The 4spd ran 13.58 @ 104.5
      The Auto ran 13.38 @ 105.5.
That held the Motor Trend record until 1980 or '81 when a Porsche Turbo Carrera tied the 13.38

I was driving a 67 chevelle built 327, 4 speed 411 gears. Got beside a 70 Pontiac grandville 455 automatic at a stop light. Green light we took off and that grandville squatted down in the back, the left front came up and that bad boy was gone. The chevelle just spun the tires. BOP 455s ain't no joke.

I use to have a 1972 oldsmobile cutlass supreme and a 72 Buick skylark.
I miss them both..they were far better looking and alot more comfortable to ride in than the cars they sell today.
The price of cars today is outrageous!!..its not worth it..its a rip off.
The repair bills are just as outrageous..so they get better gas mileage..so what!!
I should've hung on to the old cars I use to have..they were so much better.

I bought my 70 Stage1 in Manchester, Ct in 1983/1984 and drove it to my new home in Hamilton Ohio in 1985. White , black vinyl top with a 4 speed. I paid 1800.00 and sold it for 1200.00? to another 20something kid in Beavercreek Ohio. Never saw it again. When in Ct. I drove it to several Mopar shows, I love 67 to 69 V8 Darts and 70 Chargers, and I remember quite a few Mopar guys giving my the thumbs up. Very nice of them. Think about it a lot this days since old car prices are INSANE. Yes, according to MotorTrend it was the fastest 4 seater muscle car running a 13:36 in the quarter mile. Muscle Car Review Magazine did the awesome job of covering the famous 3 race shoot out between Roy Badie, avid Mopar guru, in his 70 Hemi GTX, claiming Buicks ran like they have trees tied to them. Thanks Richard Lassiter , was/is? GSCA Gran Sport Club of America president. He won 2 out of the 3 races against what should've been a superior car on paper. I still have the magazine to this day in 2024. Final note. Roy trailered his GTX to the drag strip and Richard drove his car to the event far from his home and drove it home. No doubt with a big smile on his face.
